I'll be so pissed if the Pats don't take that WR at 3. If they really do grab a QB over a generational talent at WR they're morons. The first year won't be great no matter who they choose. Shore up the offense with receivers who can make an okay QB look good. Not another Mac experiment gone wrong.
Mayo's contract specifically designated him as the successor. Even interviewing other candidates would have violated that clause in the contract. Now, while I don't know what the exact penalty for that violation would have been, I'm willing to bet it would have been in the millions. You have to figure the league wouldn't have been too thrilled about that kind of thing either. Put simply, it would have been anything but a free look.
I am older and have come to the conclusion that the NFL community is so small and insular that everybody knows everybody. There is not much to be gained to bringing in people to pick their brain imo.

QB is the most important position in the game. Why do you think the Davante Adams signing has amounted to nothing for the Raiders? Franchise QBs can overcome roster in deficiencies, whereas average QBs need Utopia around them. Building a team around an average QB leads to zero sustainability. I think the Patriots should bring in a veteran QB (Gardner Minshew, Jacoby Brissett), but passing up the opportunity to draft a potential franchise QB with the 3rd overall pick is the wrong move in my opinion.
IMO it's a big risk to take a QB when your offensive line is horrible. There have been so many young QBs get drafted high 1st round and cause their oline sucked they got killed and ruined them forever

Your assuming Arizona won’t trade out of 4, which they would. Someone like Minnesota would just at the chance to get the third QB! Plus according to the Jimmy Johnson trade chart the move of 5 to 3 is 500 points and the Chargers 2nd rounder is worth 530 points. Elliott Wolf is the GM for all intended purposes...dump Groh... having Mayo can keep the Defense together and put an Offense on the field that can post 24 pts a game next season. Draft Harrison and get a 3rd down back either in FA or the draft, plus 2 OT's in rounds 2-4. Go QB on day 2, plus safety and TE.
