    I have found that the blade tracks better when the gullet of the teeth are centered on the top wheel.

      Glad you said that; I have heard that same recommendation from another bandsaw guru; maybe Alex Snodgrass?

    Basic instructions that all bandsaw owners should know. And they probably do know them, but we get lazy and complacent and skip them. It's good to have a reminder from time to time. 👍👍 Thank you for sharing. Have a great new year and stay safe.🙂🙂

    I have never had great luck getting smooth cuts on a band saw. Even when it cuts straight, I often get left with a rougher edge than is ideal. I have no idea how folks use it as a table saw replacement. I would love to get my band saw cutting that well. Thank you for the tips!!!

      Bandsaws will always leave a rougher edge because of the nature of their blade. I was told (by my now retired bandsaw sharpener) that there is a bandsaw blade that has straight teeth that gives smooth cuts,, as opposed to the alternating teeth on a typical bandsaw blade. Only problem is that it costs around $150.

    When you say 'centre' the balloon the wheel wht do you mean because a Mr Snodgrass of general Tools says that one should centre the bottom of the vee of the teeth on the centre of the wheel otherwise as has been the case with every bandsaw I have used, the cut will continue to track off square in direction causing one to angle the guide fence. to suit. May be 14 years but still room to learn. Cheers

    If you move the band saw around the shop and it messes up the table alignment; why haven't you made handles to attach to the back of the band saw so you needn't push on the table?

    Shouldn't the guide bearings be on the blade behind the teeth??

  • @paddlefaster
    @paddlefaster ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video. Don't you want the teeth to be proud of the bearing? It seems like the bearings would make quick work of distorting the teeth. I have the same bandsaw and I can tell you it's pretty fidgety. Not really happy with it

    Look like the brand identity of the bandsaw in this video is covered up. What is the brand and model? What's the throat size and resaw depth?

      Rikon

      Yep, it is a Rikon. This video was originally shot for an episode of the Woodsmith Shop tv show on PBS and we aren't allowed to show brands on public television.

      Woodsmith, can you talk about why you have the Rikon and not another brand like Laguna, Powermatic, etc.?

    • @WoodsmithShowandmagazine

      @@pig-a-dillyman2676 - Sure, We currently have a set of Rikon tools (band saw, drill press, lathe, etc.) in our video studio shop because they were kind enough to sponsor our tv show and provide us with these wonderful tools. We have also been sponsored by Powermatic in the past for many years, and still have the Powermatic table saw. We also use many other brands of tools in our production and home shops. As far as band saws are concerned, we have this Rikon, a Powermatic, and Laguna in our production shop and we've been pretty pleased with all of them. Personally, I've found that this particular model/size of Rikon band saw has been the most versatile as far as doing fine cutting as well as heavy-duty re-sawing.

    You didn’t speak to why the blade ends up in a different location on the lower wheel than it does on the upper wheel when it has been tracked on the upper wheel correctly. Second item is the teeth of the blade need to be in front (toward the user) of the guides so the projections on the teeth don’t ruin the guides, no matter the type.
