1989 dodge ram 1500 318 problems running rough I was thinking map sensor or a fuel problem...someone plz help me out it just started today after getting it back from my buddy.
We had a 91 dodge v8 gas that didn’t like to stay at idle and would backfire. It was the first year dodge used fuel injection and nobody knew how to fix this issue. It was still an issue after it was rebuilt to. Even a mechanic who had been working on dodges for years had no idea so good luck on yours.
I saw your comment about the MAP sensor. I'm having this same problem right now, but mine is a carb. It will sound like it's misfiring and flooding, and shoot smoke. Could be my fuel pump that's leaking though, been trying to find the culprit for months.
Same problem 86 carbureted... runs good sometimes but almost loads up a loses power starts smoking on idle but it almost smells like antifreeze. Died o my tonight. If I give it any throttle it stalls out. Super frustrated.. any ideas/help?
@@Steve-so8fd I junked mine last summer. If I ever buy another first gen Dodge I'm buying a diesel. Not worth the price of admission. Great looking cars, buts carbs are junk.
My dad recently bought an 89 Dodge ram 2500 from an old farmer with only 53000 or so original miles . It was a farm truck that was bought new and used to haul a big horse trailer around his farm . I'll hopefully be getting it in the next couple years as he's getting older himself . It's got the nice 360 motor and it's a nice sun faded shit brown two tone
I just changed that out on mine thinking it would fix my gauge that stopped working the day before it didnt but it did raise my idle so i kept it and replaced the 1 pin temp sensor for the gauge. my r/c has never ran this good. lol sure does idle it down whent he temp sensor is bad.
I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 with a 318 engine it stopped shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd .trying to avoid buying a new or tee rebuilt transmission. whats the problem
It could be plug wires hooked up wrong or egr valve I think it’s called I have one that did same thing it’s located right above 318 sticker on motor it’s two round things with hose connect to them
He could’ve put some cheap gas in it I had an issue like that before because I let somebody use my truck and I usually run premium and everything I own and he put Walmart 87 in it and it ran like that I mean the older engines they like to run on better quality fuel

I haven’t fixed it yet but I found that the idle screw has an auto adjuster If you watch your idle screw you might see it turn on its own and hear the black motor near the idle screw make a buzzing sound My Ramcharger usually stops doing the staling thing when it warms up but if I need it fast Take an 8 mm wrench and turn it to where you think it is idling good
It needs a new idle air control valve I have a 1988 dodge w150 318 tbi same problem after you get that installed you will need to take it to the shop and get it ajusted
No need to go to the shop to get it adjusted. All u do is start it let it run a minute or two then shut it off. The arm will extend and lock into place then you unplug it start it up and use a wrench and adjust the screw to 2,750-2,850 rpm plug it in and it's ready to go

My buddy has a 2000 ram 1500 with the 318 in is and he blew a rod, now it’s a 278 V7!

Mine does the same thing. We're swapping in a newish 318 with less miles on the clock. It's a 88

Map sensor or the air idle solenoid both sensors will do that
I have sold this truck after about 2 weeks after this video was made. the problem was the map sensor went bad causing it to choke out on fuel.
Where is that map located?

You might have a bad coil,also check your ground wire.

But, yes, probably MAP sensor. I've never much liked early TBI systems.

coolant temp sensor near thermostat

Sounds like o2 sensor?? Idle air control, map throttle position Dodge are crazy. ???
Almost seems like a weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter you ever fugure out what it is
Its probably your computer, get rebuilt and you should be golden.

wiring from spark plug to distributor cap isn't wired right most likely.
