Hello Crixus Kaiden! This song was written by
Joaquín Sabina, he is a Spanish singer-songwriter, poet and painter! He composed it and gave it to Ana Belén (also a singer and actress) for her self-titled album. So the song has a very harmonious and slow melody that takes us to the places that he is describing.
In this song the rivalry between the base feelings of modernity and the sublime passions of before is revealed. A comparison is made of the relative sense of security of modernity with the warm simplicity of an ancient world. All the lyrics are orchestrated with an ironic tone, characteristic of Sabina to demonstrate the icy detachment of the city against the warm love of the prairies; knowing that with the city the progress and the cold of the machines and the anti-personnel are evident and with the grasslands a more human and earthlier world.
Note: in parentheses will go the explanations.
    ***
    "Fish of the city"
(Already in the title you can see all the ironic charge and the theme that the author will use to describe his opinion. The city fish would be the people who have to work during office hours in those skyscrapers all glazed in the big cities, that is say instead of buildings they look like fish tanks, and their employees’ fish, who have nothing more than the basic instincts of sealing and ordering papers, as if they only had to swim like fish in fish tanks without having anything else to do).
    ***
"She used to comb her hair like a garçon
the traveler who wanted to teach me to kiss
    at the gare d'austerlitz.
    Spring of a love
yellow and frugal like the sun
of the summer of San Martín. "
(In these first verses it is not made clear if what the author is doing is recalling the kisses of a young lady or saying in an ironic way the absurdity of wanting to teach him to kiss or initiate him in love a woman who has greased and tied hair to the garzón instead of taking it free and loose. Also, the song starts at a train station, a place to which Joaquín has made numerous references throughout his career; in this case it is Austerlitz, one of the six train stations that Paris has. Now we have another season, spring in this case. The summer of San Martín is known as the time that is between summer and autumn, in which temperatures rise again to later continue with the logical decline. It is a pleasant heat, since it is a way of not wanting to totally detach from the summer, it is a "I'm leaving but I'm staying" something very applicable to love).
    ***
"There are those who say it was me,
    the first to forget,
when in a B flat by Jacques Brel
    I met Madmoiselle Amsterdam "
(Many times, we are blinded by appearances, by novelty, by temptation or by whim and we forget what we have. At this point we forget about Paris and we find Amsterdam. This change is not trivial, in Paris you fall in love but the charms of Amsterdam mean that you cannot refuse her call. However, after time you will probably regret having left Paris, and you will not be able to return because you will be in Amsterdam, which in turn is a song by Jacques Brel (Belgian singer-songwriter) in which he talks about the hardships that sailors go through there.)
    ***
    “In fatuous New York,
gives more shade than lemon trees,
    the statue of Liberty”
(Here we can see how the meadows and how the shade and natural shelter of some lemon trees were changed by a cold concrete statue. Obviously, it is a love song, but I would not focus it only there, it also makes a criticism of the decadence of the world in which we live. Of the dreams that you have and the reality that you find. Maybe that's why the next city appears, New York. In a place where freedom is the symbol that identifies it worldwide, the country where everyone is looking to realize their dream, where they think that success is something that is assured. The situation that presents itself to us is curious. On the one hand we have the majestic Statue of Liberty, which could be seen as the fairy godmother who allows everyone to get what they want. But navigating around it we find the oil tankers, who represent the harsh (pun intended) reality, the powerful who constantly monitor the course of life. Freedom, yes, but with nuances.)
    ***
    “But on Desolation Row,
the sirens of the oil tankers,
don't let us laugh or fly."
(But in the street of desolation the song of the oil tankers, of money, does not allow us to laugh or fly, money is replacing caresses and passions. But look, here's a hidden meaning: Joaquin quotes his idolized Bob Dylan alluding to his song Desolation Row (as well as being a New York Bay place).
    ***
"And in the Choir of Babel,
    out of tune a Spanish.
There is no law but the law of the treasury
    in King Solomon's Mines. "
(And these verses come to clarify what I said earlier, what moves affection is the love of money. In a world like the one we live in, where almost everything is governed by laws, there are certain things in which logic never reigns. When we aim for something as big as King Solomon's treasure, we don't stop to think, we don't make a strategic plan; we simply act on instinct. In those moments we do not have laws, we do not have moral imperatives, we only have a goal and a firm decision, to cross it first. It is in those moments when human nature surprises us, when we manage to get rabbits out of the magic hat or the light bulb turns on. The downside of these things is that we don’t all have the same goals, and they are not always good).
    ***
    “And braving the swell
    without a rudder or helmsman,
it goes through my dreams, light of luggage,
    on a walnut shell,
    my heart travel,
    wearing tattoos
    of a buccaneer past,
    from a sailboat to boarding,
of an “I don’t want to love you”
(Another great theme in this song is heartbreak, and how they haven’t wanted to love the author, and how he has the tattoos of an adventurous past and he wanting to gamble on a love that wasn’t reciprocated).

"And how to run away when there are no
      islands to be shipwrecked.
To the country where the wise men withdraw
      from the offense of seeking
      lips that drive mad,
      lies that win lawsuits,
      so summary that debase
      aquarium glass
      of the City Fish. "
(Throughout the song we are seeing how the decline is increasing, the starting point was hopeful but we are reaching a point of no return. It is here where the criticism made of the society in which we live and of politicians in general becomes clearer. Almost everyone denies them, criticizes their ways, their bad arts, and now in times of crisis and corruption much more. However, we are all very small fish in the vast ocean, and we have to resign ourselves to accepting what we have in our particular fish tank. The wise men, as Sabina says, are those who have finally realized that continuing to fight for just causes has turned into enduring a lost battle beforehand. If you want to win a trial, you must load up on good lawyers, not good reasons; and those who manage to evade justice are known as good lawyers, not those who lock up the guilty and free the innocent)
      ***
      "El Dorado was a shampoo,
      Virtue: arms outstretched,
sin is a web page. "
(We continue in our disenchantment with society, in this case very harsh revelations are made. El Dorado was a mythical place that for many years was sought after by countless people who longed to find the huge amounts of gold that were there. Like all legends, it is most likely false. However, it is a technique used on many occasions, creating an illusion that keeps people alert and cajoled, is something that usually works. On the other hand, there has always been an attempt to maintain tradition, associate it with the good and demonize everything that is innovative, that allows society to advance. Fortunately, it is a war that science is winning over religion, but that will never end. "Virtue: arms outstretched", that is, referring to Jesus and religion. And the sin now is to look at porn pages, you no longer see naked ladies, now you have to see them by delay in the modern web page)
      ***
      "In Comala I understood that
to the place where you have been happy,
you shouldn't try to go back. "
(I like how Pablo López here points to Pablo Alboran :D. But hey, let's get back to the personal level that in the long run is the one we like the most about this song. The phrase of this last fragment is one of those that I have in mind, I don't always pay attention to it and I always end up agreeing with it. I believe that it has happened to all of us at some time. After a special trip, or a good experience, we are always overcome with nostalgia and we want to repeat it. Going back to the past is something that we cannot do, that is why we have the option of returning to the same place. Normally when the subject comes up we say that we would do it with our eyes closed, but if we do, we almost always feel disappointed. A good memory has the particularity that it is never erased, that is why we will always be comparing it and, in most cases, we will feel disappointed, thus blurring the pristine memory that we had before.)
      ***
      "When in regular flight,
I stepped on the sky of Madrid.
A newlywed was waiting for me
      she didn't remember me. "
(We reached the end of our trip, the same one that began in Paris with an enviable postcard and even better expectations. The end point is an airport, a place much less poetic than the train station. And the traveler who combed her hair in the garçon style has become a newlywed who no longer remembers you, someone who will probably win one of those summary judgments that debase the glass of our aquarium with lies).
      ***
      "And braving the swell,
      without a rudder or helmsman,
it goes through my veins, light of luggage
      on a walnut shell,
      my heart travel.
      Wearing the tattoos
      of a buccaneer past,
      from a sailboat to boarding,
      of a women's garter belt. "
(It is clear that the song began with a dream and ends with a major disappointment. However, we always have the last step, even if it is desperate and with little sign of reaching a successful port. We all like to see in war movies how the soldier decides to run out of his trench and, rifle in hand, attacks everything in his path in a desperate action that manages to end the battle. It is also true that at a certain point in life, we begin to get by with less luggage, but every time we have more stories and we have more tattoos that remind us where we should not stumble again).
      ***
      "That they lost their guts,
      on a bank of trash,
on a beach without sea. "
(Losing your guts is something too common in our society, and being immersed in all the trash that surrounds us is almost inevitable. The overall summary of the song is the story of the journey of a lifetime, of how we start with a thousand and one illusions when everything seems precious to us; But in the coming and going we accumulate memories sprinkled with scars and disappointments that end up shaping our perception of the world).
There are songs that have a special melody that makes them unique, there are songs that have such successful lyrics that any verse makes sense on its own, there are songs that when interpreted by different voices are reborn, there are songs that are born as a gift, there are songs that never lose their validity. “Peces de Ciudad” meets all these requirements. This is my favorite song by far. Hope this has been helpful!

When poetry is translated into another language it is complicated. Many times they seem like phrases without meaning.

The lyrics is so deep, poethic and "hispanic" (Spain, Guinea Ecuatorial and Hispanic América too in general). So maybe it´s very difficult for non hispanic understand it very properly, even reading directly to own native languaje of each people. Don´t worry then, just enjoy and feel it.
