      As annoying as that is, it is consistent with WWE. That was the same company that was gushing about twitter every five minutes on Raw while mocking its own fanbase as internet nerds. That was the company that told the fans to go on their website and vote, and then called them internet nerds because they voted for things they didn't want like Low Ki and Bryan Danielson.
      I'd have expected Zack Ryder to be better than that, considering he was something the so called internet nerds wanted that TOUT shilling WWE was ready to forget and bury, but it turns out Ryder really was a product of that company through and through. The internet is great, until people using it start expressing opinions other than our own, or simply react in a way we did not anticipate. So here's my opinion; Yoshi Tatsu no worse than Ryder and no amount of youtube shows could change that.

    When you lose, you do a job. When you're an "enhancement talent" your job is to lose to more or less everyone. To "job" to them. You are a jobber. It isn't an insult, it's a description of the job.

    • @nooneinparticular5273

      @Stephen Joens My point is that he is missing the point. This would be like a garbageman/woman taking umbrage at being called a garbageman/woman or banker for being called a banker. They collect garbage, they work at a bank. It's a description of the job. There's no shame in being a jobber. Not everyone can be a top star and jobbers are vital cogs in the wrestling machine. And if you think you can be more and want to try, I don't knock someone for going to another company (particularly one where his friend is an executive nepotism nudge nudge?) to try to get a better deal for himself. Doesn't change the facts of what a jobber is and that that is what he was as Zack Ryder in the WWE.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the term is self explanatory. But the term isn’t good for an active talent if they have any hope to ever elevate in their career. If they’re seen as jobbers then what realistic chance is there they ever ride to a new level. I can see why you’d be insulted but the reason being because you dislike being at that level more than there being an actual issue with the name itself.

    • @shanestephens4728
      @shanestephens4728 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even when you “win”, you do a job. Doing a “job” meant that you were dependable enough to do whatever the promoter told you to do, no questions asked. Being called a good “job” guy got twisted over the years due to jealousy from guys who were the shits and only ever went on to train other shitty guys and so on, so it got conflated with the carny term of jabroni, which is the old school term for “enhancement talent”.

But can’t really call it failing for a guy who was on the active roster for basically 12 years in the WWE (2008-2020 I think). But what does suck for him is that there were times where fans really wanted him to be moved up and they never really did it for him. I’m not saying he would’ve been a top star but I don’t think it’s a stretch that has they backed him on those occasions he could’ve been a strong mid level guy on TV regularly.

    In New Japan, the rookies aka Young Lions are always losing to established talent and whenever they’re booked to compete in tag team matches, they always get pinned. After months of paying their dues, they are sent on excursions where they learn the business even further and they come back to become better wrestlers and top tier talent i.e. Okada, Naito, Jay White, Hiromu Takahashi and Evil as well as Roppongi 3K

    Jim hit the nail on the head at how the structure of the statement can change everyone's perceptions of it. You can look at the press release about WWE's recent anti-shitposting measure where wrestlers now have to take cameos and tiktoks on non-WWE accounts and ring names to avoid copyright mess. "The control and exploitation of talent and their likeness allows us to appropriately compensate them for their hard work and due diligence" or something like that. I knew what they meant, but "usage and implementation" would have meant the exact same thing and would have done more to lower the pitchforks.

    • @CaptainMonotone448
      @CaptainMonotone448 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VendettaAS Multi-layered characters have always existed in wrestling,. The best wrestling heels are the ones who either believe they're in the right or really are in the right to a degree, (e.g. Chris Jericho in 2008). One dimensional characters like Hogan and Sheik thankfully aren't as common in modern wrestling, but they're still very effective (e.g. Rusev in 2014)
      I brought up Cody because he came across like he thinks being a head suit for a major wrestling company means he can suddenly decide how the entire industry works. Of course he's allowed to express himself, and good for him if things go his way in the end, but I'm just not buying that mindset.

    I sometimes feel that fans don't realize that in the former generations of wrestling, if you could make someone look like a million bucks beating you, there could be a lucrative career in being a jobber. Promoters ALWAYS had somebody they wanted to push, so if you could get others over properly, promoters would want to keep you around to do just that. Jobbers sometimes had more job security than Mid-carders. There's a reason Barry Horowitz rarely won in WWE or WCW, but stayed employed by them all through the 90's.

    I like how obtuse Cornette is about everything. Ryder has a lot more respect for the way the business used to be than most. He was clearly saying that Jobber isn't used by the boys in WWE or the staff. It is probably a dead term there, and the point he is trying to make is that it has now become just an internet mark insult. Cornette has even defined a Jobber in the past, and by his own definition Ryder was not a Jobber in WWE because he was under contract. Cornette clearly stated in a drive thru I once listened to that a job guy couldn't have a contract. By definition if you had a contract, you were not a Jobber. A Jobber was local a guy who got paid a flat rate to come in just for the night. He said they typically tried to have a few guys in each town they might ask to do the job. That's Cornette's own definition of a Jobber. Think those random guys who showed up to get squashed by Braun during the good part of his monster run. They'd pack 2-3 of them in the ring and have him go to town. And they were probably lucky to get paid 50 bucks.
