I was reading a few negative comments down the thread, and what a lot of people don't get, is that Bruce grew up in the 60's, with all the great music that was on the radio back then. He doesn't deny it, he doesn't disregard it, he loves it, he appreciates it and he celebrates it. Show me ANY performer who actively encourages his audience to put him on the spot during a concert by asking for requests. Show me a performer willing to cover GREAT songs from the last 40 years or more alongside his own (still impressive) material. Often, he may not make as good a job as the original artist (although with the MIGHTY E Street Band in tow, even that is open to debate) but he knows where he came from and above all, he acknowledges it!

New York AM radio WABC or WNEW, 1962 - 1966, the greatest foundation music... ever. I'm within a year of Bruce, and we heard and lived our formative years to the same background music, it NEVER dies in our minds.
What only Springsteen fans realize is that when Bruce does songs from the 50's and 60's in concert, he's PAYING HOMAGE to the artists that brought them to us originally, and his own music is very influenced by it. This has to be the best combination... Bruce Springsteen singing a song by Jackie DeShannon giving it his style but not changing the essence of the song as it was written. Amazing performance.

One of the best version of this timeless pop song. I've seen several versions of Bruce's singing it and each time it's got the feeling of authenticity that made it such an inspired masterpiece of a song when DeShannon first created and performed it.

IMO, several of his songs ("Be True," "Save My Love," "The Little Things My Baby Does") reflect the influence, which accounts for a relatively small, but still significant part of his overall body of work. He has tons of influences, from the Animals to Dylan to Orbison to Pete Seeger to Sam and Dave, but her unique love song style is in there.
I love Bruce Sprinsteen, I'm a major fan. I love this song. I love Jackie DeShannon's version ( the woman wrote it before I was born) & so many versions are great from the writer, the Searchers, Agathia (ABBA), Paul Carrack, etc. But the best live version so far is Status Quo- check it out. Amazing.
First heard this on the 30th anniversary Quo album called Don't Stop. Instantly fell in love with it. It's an absolutely great album and I'm genuinely delighted The Boss has done this.

This stirs up a lot of emotions in me: When he was touring after the Rising album, I saw him together with my X-girlfriend at a concert in Copenhagen. The greatest concert of my life so far. What a magnificient man!

Well done Bruce, great version, well sung and word perfect. A lot of artists do covers and don't bother to learn the songs properly, but Bruce is Professional with a capital P and gets the job done and sings it like it should be sung.
