Despite Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) and Larry David's attempts to help her, she can't quite understand tone, or how to read a script, or even how to not go full method, but her passion and heart are there. Well, somehow I missed her gritting and pelvic thrusting "Eat them latkas!" in the show so this take had me rolling.
Season 1 through 10. Before she was on the show.
How she found new ways to make the absolute worst possible line read choice every time is amazing. Her and Tracey Ullman were the untouched MVPs of the season.
Sorry for the spelling errors but it's hard to chew toenails and foot calluses and dictate to my phone at the same time. So excuse the spelling errors above it was a toughie

Whoever casts for Curb is just a genius. Every character is perfectly cast.
The legendary Allison Jones (The Office, Veep, The Good Place, Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks, What we Do in the Shadows and a ton of other comedies). You can see her cameo during the casting scene, along with Ben Harris, the other casting director for Curb.
Except Vince Vaughn in my opinion. He adds nothing to the show.

She really acts like a person pulled off the street with no idea about acting at all, it's hard to believe she is actually acting, she's that good.

Who thought she was having the acting breakthrough I don't think anybody thought that. The only people that like her acting was her father and later the producers said they love the screen test and thought the acting was amazing. When really the girl was flipping out and going crazy and not acting. I didn't see any scene where anybody. She had a breakthrough and was getting the hang of acting. Larry's wife said she was a worst actress ever. Am I wrong. Did I miss read your comment or did I miss a scene..
I'm going to watch it again I don't think in any part it's Cheryl Express any breakthrough or any possible hint of that lady having a stack of talent. I might add that Cheryl looked more beautiful than ever. And why does Richard Lewis look so old and unhealthy. He's not aging very well people that go bald and grey at a young age. They look old when they're young. But then they become ageless. So maybe Richard Lewis looks old because he look like he did when he was young caricaturely and a added superimposed layer of zombie and witch like homeless and Hagee Down syndrome Mongol creepy hunchback like qualities and that's the Richard Lewis portrayal we see on curb. Or perhaps his great-grandfather's playing him. Or is he doing his own makeup and Lighting. That's a Tuffy

This is an amazing performance. Comedic, scary, pushing, terrifying and even endearing. She deserves more opportunities. Again: amazing.

I died laughing when I saw this episode when he said "you're too thin, you're like a rail" and the character is supposed to be a ballerina

The guy playing the casting director is Ben Harris, the real-life casting director who probably cast her in the show. Luv it!
she was only supposed to be in one epi...i think a lot of the story line was based off of her audition
she was nervous and larry kept coming after her until she broke out of her shell
she got hired the day after the audition....that rarely happens
Exec: ""We saw her audition tape, and ... we didn't like it ..."
Larry and Jeff: "Eh." "It happens."
Exec: "We loved it."
I don't like cringe comedy usually. But this girl...this girl is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

This part from 2:37 is so perfectly acted by Cheryl and Keyla, and the little moment of gaslighting from 2:42 to 2:55 is crafted incredibly well by Keyla...Sofia becomes objectively nuts at this moment, which is distinct from her terrible acting skills, which have already been established. It is therefore my favourite Maria Sofia moment.
