This is what football should be. Not a bunch of teams driven by some middle eastern oil Barron but teams driven by the love of the sport. Shows what football should be.
Aaron Hinton shit. I thought a muddled eastern oil Barron ploughing millions into a club and not really receiving much roi in comparison to other investments he could do as love of the sport... I may be wrong .. a TH-cam star trying to plough what he has to get a bigger return on his investment may be for the love of sport 🤣🤔
I like john green and what he did for wimbledon, but he didnt save wimbledon. the fans saved it, from holding trials on the common and bring it up from the amateur leagues to where it is now. john found out about it fell in love with it and took an active participatory role in helping the club, but he didnt save it and i think he would be the first to tell you that.
+Drums & Bass Kinda irrelevant, because nobody said he alone saved them. It does say "helped save"...which doesn't mean solely. He did help...so there really should be no debate about it. Also, John is a fan...so kinda redundant to say he didn't.
LucidDream I want to be clear i'm not dissing john or anything. You wont find anyone connected to the club that has a bad word to say about him or what he has bought for the club. Its the issue with Vice saying he helped save the club. The saving of the club was all done in the noughties by the fans and the local community. I remember very well when old wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes. It was the fans who went in their thousands to watch their team play in local parks, pretty much. And the local businesses that went out of their way to sponsor them or give discounts to AFC Wimbledon members, or have the staff uniform as the AFC wimbledon shirt like Flame barbecue. Sports interactive who make football manager who are based in wimbledon, sponsored them from the start. By the time John had come to learn about the story of the Dons, they were already a stable club, who would usually play to much more fans than any other team in their division at the time, with a stable busniess plan. He is helping the club immensely and no one will ever not say that. What i'm saying is that the club was saved in the first 5 years of its inception by the community when it was at the point it couldnt go further down. From then on its actually been a pretty successful club achieving successive promotions, getting a lot of coverage and having the fanbase consistently grow year on year.
I consume a decent amount of content online and I must say, coming across what John and Hank Green are doing is the single biggest gift the internet has ever given me. I have never known a duo as inspirational and motivated towards making the world a better place through one of the most unorthodox of platforms ever.
i'm so happy this video exists. it is SO difficult to explain to people why i support afc wimbeldon, as i've never had an interest in football in my entire life.

I believe it's just cause of all the drama and how instead of collaborating, they decide to judge others where in all reality no one cares. TH-cam is a job for them right? so treat it as one and be professional instead of being immature.
+Erica Bourland basically, but I kinda pictured it with him sitting in the floor in front of the tv cross legged like he was 9 playing his best friend the NES, in the dark.
John looks so happy! Not only is this such a great story, but John's pure unadulterated enthusiasm in those shots of him in the stands brings me such joy.
I'm a Portsmouth fan (league two) and to be honest, I really enjoy the AFC Wimbledon story. They are a club that the fans would do whatever it took for their club (just like the Portsmouth fans, we own our own club and had to save our club from completely not existing)
Beautiful story. I liked how John said 'soccer' in the beginning when he was giving the interview but 'football' when talking to English fans of the club about this being the essence of sport. It sounds like a really tiny thing, and I don't know why, but it seems to have warmed my heart just a little bit.
This video is what attracted me to AFC Wimbledon. Hearing this story was profoundly moving. Immediately after learning their story, I purchased an ownership stake in the team. I also had the fortune to be able to attend a game this past season (season finale against Oldham Athletic) while I was visiting the London area. It was a fantastic game and this is a fantastic club. I will be a fan for as long as I live.
Every now and again in sports there is a story that just melts your heart as a sports fan and the story of AFC Wimbledon and John Green is one of them. Best of luck to AFC Wimbledon and John Green on their rise together through English Football and maybe one day we’ll see them playing in the Premiership.
This video made me so happy! I'm so happy that John & Hank can touch and influence others lives. He could have easily not gave them Ad money for sponsorship. And the fact all these people had no idea who he was, ugh I love how they break so many barriers in the TH-cam community.
John Green's love of AFC Wimbledon is simply infectious. I don't like football or any sport for that matter, but I got involved because of John and because of how passionate he is about it. That's the power of John Green.

I've been following John (and Hank) since 2007 or 2008. I've been aware of John's sports accounts and his gaming channel, but never followed them because I don't play video games and I've never followed soccer/football. 5:17 I felt like that british guy made it out to seem as if John Green was a producer/ writer extraordinaire before starting his TH-cam channel which is not the case (I mean him being a writer first is true but we all know he started off on TH-cam, and then the major success with the movies and books came after he had garnered an amazing following on TH-cam)
+Brainiac V I totally agree! Plus it sounded like they just did the Hank Games stuff to make ad money when they had the hugely popular vlogbrothers channel and were deliberately not having ads. I also hate how he made it sound like people watch just for the bald john green other john green etc when John talks over his games telling you about his life and things, THATS what we started watching for, not for random fifa, but now so many of us are into this.

This should be a bonus feature on the DVD of the AFC Wimboldon movie. I don't think it could be in reality, but it just seems like something you would watch in the bonus features of a movie.
I remember being a huge VlogBrothers fan and seeing the first episode of John playing FIFA when it first came out, never thought something so silly and fun would eventually make such an impact
Little by little, actual Americans are now rooting for AFC Wimbledon. The "American underdog story" is not just American, its universal, and this resonates with all true Americans who hear it.
+Ostrich160 While +miloent may have worded that statement poorly I think a reason many view the underdog story (while being truly universal) as American is because it is so very ingrained in our culture. When you ask an American about the values that are true across the country many would tell you that being able to make something out of nothing with hard work and determination, as the thing that resonates across the country. Whether or not that is actually true is another story but the idea of it is very deep-seated.
+Tyler Grandis +Ostrich160 The underdog story is pretty international and universal as you said, but some countries do resonate with it more than others, and both the UK and US are two of those. The American idea of an underdog, similar to what you said, is the idea of the American dream. Social mobility. People rising from the bottom to the top with some hard graft and elbow grease. In British culture it's more to do with history, such as the Battle of Britain in WW2 standing alone against the Nazis as London burned, and fending off the massive Spanish Armada in 1588, Rorke's Drift and the Charge of the Light Brigade.
What a lovely story and example of someone as wonderful as John Green putting his time and support behind a club like AFC Wimbledon that stand for all the right things not just in football but in the wider world too, a shining beacon of hope, genuineness and most of all perseverance. This video couldn’t have made me any more happier.
+nerdommeetsboy That's... excessively nitpicky a distinction when we're glossing over career highlights of one man in less than a minute. For the benefit of people who probably have no idea of TH-cam's inner workings. I'd say it's safe to let this one go, mate.
+KTGetc That is exactly the thing that made him a sensation in the TH-cam community which in turn has helped him reach a broad spectrum that would've been impossible to do so without. So he if you want to define what the guy does in one sentence, that's it.
I never thought that was John's setup. I kept thinking he was like slouching on the couch in his underpants with Meredith like behind a proper office desk pretending to go along whenever John sings one of his chants
John Green is by far the bestt youtube ever. Not only does he use his money for good causes, he also is a beast at teaching.(Crash course) Thank you John Green
Without John Green, all of us would be failing in class. Crash Course is a lifesaver. Not gonna lie I always knew John Green as the author and TH-camr but not a FIFA expert at all.
That is a much nicer studio, then I thought you had, however Meredith watching John play is exactly how I imagined it. Just chilling and ignoring most of it. But the story is amazing watching again, having lived it watching John play Fifa from the first time he did it.
I love that Roger from Men In Blazers was pulled to provide commentary. Those guys are absolutely hilarious and I'm fairly certain John is a regular listener of their podcast. Hopefully AFC Wimbledon can survive the "curse of the Rog" and win promotion into League 1 this season!
+tiesthijsthejs Good thing that they plastered John Green all over their filming. You can just google his name and you would easily find his books and his YT channel. It just takes someone to type in the letters on a keyboard to find it. I have faith that people can do that much.
Bladeofwar94 Sure sure. There's people like that. Like me. And probably, like you. But for the biggest reach, it would have helped to add a simple link. Not for J. Green's sake, but for the club. Not that I care about the sport. But the story is kind of endearing.
I really hope Wimbledon get to the premier league in john's lifetime
That would be so cool

I love watching John's Crash Course World History, but after watching this, he's gone up ten fold in my estimation.
MAD, MAD props to all involved here. The Green brothers are damn awesome!
didn't know anything about John Green before this. this guy is INCREDIBLE well spoken. that speech at the end was so on point. john green for president
This dude helped me learn history and psychology
Thankyou TH-cam algorithm for this gem 🙏🏻 also, shoutout to John green and bald John green making an interesting cameo 8 years ago.
This should be a bonus feature on the DVD of the AFC Wimboldon movie. I don't think it could be in reality, but it just seems like something you would watch in the bonus features of a movie.
+Dimento PLexitronum I totally agree.
+Tyler Grandis +Ostrich160
The underdog story is pretty international and universal as you said, but some countries do resonate with it more than others, and both the UK and US are two of those.
The American idea of an underdog, similar to what you said, is the idea of the American dream. Social mobility. People rising from the bottom to the top with some hard graft and elbow grease.
In British culture it's more to do with history, such as the Battle of Britain in WW2 standing alone against the Nazis as London burned, and fending off the massive Spanish Armada in 1588, Rorke's Drift and the Charge of the Light Brigade.

lol. fair enough. GO DONS.
+milowent Just too make sure that you know, the Dons are a different team from AFC Wimbledon.

What a lovely story and example of someone as wonderful as John Green putting his time and support behind a club like AFC Wimbledon that stand for all the right things not just in football but in the wider world too, a shining beacon of hope, genuineness and most of all perseverance. This video couldn’t have made me any more happier.
ah yes Crash Course is definitely hosted on the vlogbrothers channel
+nerdommeetsboy That's... excessively nitpicky a distinction when we're glossing over career highlights of one man in less than a minute. For the benefit of people who probably have no idea of TH-cam's inner workings. I'd say it's safe to let this one go, mate.
+KTGetc
That is exactly the thing that made him a sensation in the TH-cam community which in turn has helped him reach a broad spectrum that would've been impossible to do so without. So he if you want to define what the guy does in one sentence, that's it.
KTGetc actually I was noticing the graphic with the TH-cam player; I'm not expecting the video to be in-depth
2:56 Come to Wellington Phoenix games in New Zealand. The other team today had literally 2 supporters.
As a long time nerdfighter, this makes me super happy
John Davenport go hawks lol
Didnt know John played fifa. I always knew him as the guy I watch in history class.
okay but now that they've finally played their first home game at plough lane can we get an AFC Wimbledon movie??
You just gotta love John Green
I never thought that was John's setup. I kept thinking he was like slouching on the couch in his underpants with Meredith like behind a proper office desk pretending to go along whenever John sings one of his chants
I'm just so happy about all of this thoughtfulness.
John Green is by far the bestt youtube ever. Not only does he use his money for good causes, he also is a beast at teaching.(Crash course) Thank you John Green
I'm here because of comments on John's latest AFC Wimbledon upload :-)
I didn’t think I knew who he was until you mentioned fault in our stars and crash course. This man is an absolute legend
Over two years old and I still love everything about this video.
Ive never seen john green playing fifa, is there a channel he has for that?
butterflyswim8 thanks dude
Underground, overground, wombling free. The wombles of Wimbledon are into tier 3 :D
Everything about this is beautiful.
the way john talks about AFC Wimbledon is so endearing and his smile is contagious
Without John Green, all of us would be failing in class. Crash Course is a lifesaver. Not gonna lie I always knew John Green as the author and TH-camr but not a FIFA expert at all.
Not many videos now a days that are just a pure joy to watch, thank you for this one, what a great great story!
That kid was having a pint, why not!! Cheers lad
I think the clip at the very end of John and Rosianna in the stands captures John perfectly. Entirely filled with joy for AFC Wimbledon.
idk why the algorithm overlords decided to recommend this again 7 years later but i'm amused and proud.
What a club world class
I start a career mode with this team now in fifa 18, her history is amazing !
Vice should have put a link in their description to John's football channel...
Yeah the values of the YT-community and open-source spirit of the internet don't apply to corporate leaches?
+tiesthijsthejs Good thing that they plastered John Green all over their filming. You can just google his name and you would easily find his books and his YT channel. It just takes someone to type in the letters on a keyboard to find it. I have faith that people can do that much.
Bladeofwar94
Sure sure. There's people like that. Like me. And probably, like you. But for the biggest reach, it would have helped to add a simple link. Not for J. Green's sake, but for the club. Not that I care about the sport. But the story is kind of endearing.
