How long did it take for the delivery of your passport?
I am still expecting it and that’s because I applied for the 10yrs / 64 pages. The regular 5yrs / 32 pages gets delivered in about 3 days.

This video has been so helpful. Whenever I look into the process of changing my name , I give up but it has been four years and I think I am ready. My question is, did you have to submit an affidavit as part of your application, as I saw this on the list of documents required on the nigeria change of name website. I am applying for renewal/change of name. Also, how long did it take for you to get the new NIN slip with your husband's name. I have everything think required except this
I didn’t have to submit an affidavit at that time but I would recommend you get it done. Until recently, I didn’t know an affidavit should precede a newspaper publication. The NIN update only took about 3 days.

A special delivery envelope - it’s most times grey-coloured and comes in different sizes.

You should be able to. I got 10 years at the time I did mine. However, it’s subject to availability per given time

Printed out photocopy please.
Whatever copies you take to the venue will be retained by them, so ensure it’s the duplicates you hand over to them.

I am unable to say if a deed poll will be accepted or not. However, recently I had to do a change of name in a registration body in Nigeria, they asked for an affidavit, I assumed the deed poll should do but unfortunately it wasn’t accepted.
I also got to know at that time that an affidavit should precede a change of name publication. A lawyer friend of mine came in handy to sort it. You could explore that route.

But a friend that did hers before mine received it after one month. So I’ll just give them a month
Also, it depends on what you applied for. You’ll get the regular 5years /32 pages in a couple of days. I applied for for 64 pages/ 10 years

So about the NIN, I don’t have an old one and I just did one with my new name, will that be okay? I am still waiting for the NIN to come in the post, can I just go to the Nigerian embassy without this?
I think just the new one should be fine. I am not quite sure if you can show up for the appointment without the new NIN. It is one of the things you’ll be asked for. Except you have the number written out somewhere or something.

Thank you. I didn’t do mine online, I booked an appointment with a centre where the update was done. And yes, the man completed the form in my husband’s last name when he did.
If the form is now completed online, I don’t think it will be any different.

Before I renewed my passport to e passport I still have 10months validity it’s almost a month I renewed it and I have not gotten it and I want to make use of it in the Uk embassy can I used that my old passport to get the visa then u cancel the old passport wen am going to get the new one

This was most informative. For a change of name due to marriage, what application route did you employ? Was it a fresh passport application or renewal?

Hi, I know someone that used the fresh passport application for change of name and it worked. Also the person didn’t use newspaper paper publication for marriage change of name, the person only used marriage certificate as proof of change of name, consent letter from husband, husband’s Nigeria passport data page and alongside all other documents needed for passport application.

Hi, I am glad you found the video helpful. What I did was to scan the newspaper, then print that out on an A4 sized paper. You could consider that.

How did I miss this comment! My sincere apologies please. I am not quite sure but I don’t think it should be impossible. Try to contact the NIMC enrolment centres and enquire from them, then book an appointment for the update after.

Based on your responses to questions I understand the husband's surname should be used to complete the passport application form. My question is this- do I get a new NIN before applying for the passport or just before going for biometrics, because there's a request while completing the passport application form to include a NIN. Is it okay to use my old NIN to complete the application form then get a new NIN before attending biometric appointment?
It’s the same NINumber, you are only updating your name.
To answer your question, it is okay to use old NIN to complete the application form , that was exactly what I did. You must just have the updated NIN slip in your new name before attending Biometric appointment.

It’s pretty similar to the other slips. I honestly don’t know the difference. It’s the heading on the top of each page that differentiates each to me.
The same way you got the other slips is how to get the acknowledgment one

You’ll select the passport renewal, since your passport is due to expire anyway.
Then the application will be in the new name you want to apply with.

@@RefesTreats ohhhh, that’s really beautiful, well done. I really cannot say for sure what will work or not work at this time . But it appears the Nigerian High Commission is currently working really hard on ensuring these situations get better, especially with respect to the appointments, which I appreciate them for.
However, What I could suggest to make things even more better would be probably sticking to appointment times and also trying not to make more people than the facility can really accommodate turn up to the appointment venue.

I don’t know about the change of name on any Nigerian website. You could apply for thr renewal if your passport is due to expire.

Yeah, the special delivery envelope is compulsory but definitely not up to that. The price is just as I have discussed in the video. You could try another post office.
The first post office I also went to didn’t know how to go about it, so, some of them don’t know, we can’t fault them.

The only way I am aware of is to contact someone who does it in Nigeria, then send the required documents to him or her for processing.
You can then ask someone to be on the lookout for the newspaper and purchase it after it’s been published, and scan that particular page and send it to you.

While applying for a passport renewal, do I need to fill the form in my husband’s surname or my old surname..
While filling out the form there wasn't any place that requested to click on change of name.
Basically I just want to know, is it at the embassy that they will differentiate if you are applying for a renewal or change of name based on the documents you provided. I hope you understand?
The application is in your husband’s name.
You complete the form for passport renewal or fresh application- whichever applies to you
Something like that- the provided documents would vary at the biometrics appointment

Acknowledgement slip is different from Appointment slip. From recent questions from people, I guess the acknowledgment slip no longer exists. I wouldn’t bother if you can’t lay hold of it.
I saw payment in dollar only at the payment page. Maybe that’s why it’s not been going
The payment is in dollars, I don’t think that should be the issue.
Quick queston. I want to add a name to my passport, What are the requirements needed for that ? The name Kelvin Obasuyi is in my passport at the moment but I want to add Solomon to it .

Hi Olufayo , to be honest, I don’t know. But logically, I am not sure you would have to do any update at all if it’s just the status you are changing. I would just fill Married in the place of Single and move on with life if it were to be me. I hope it helps.

Yes you can do it from U.K., someone does it in Nigeria, you get someone to buy the newspaper and the page you feature on is scanned to you.

I’ve done that recently too. There are a couple of websites providing the service. I’ll post the link of the one I used, they were quite swift and responsive. You’d complete a form online (on their website) and make payment of about £20. You should receive the document in a couple of days. deedpolloffice.com/

Hi Adebukola, I would want to assume you have been able to manage this. I apologise for the delayed response. There is a form to be completed somewhere on their site to register your card - you’d have to upload your ID, card and bank statement as evidence

@@abiola5757 I am not quite sure whether or not it’s compulsory but it’s quite easy to do.
I think I missed the last part of your question out, you are applying in your married name - the name you want to be used on your passport so there is no need for any option to indicate.

There is a different tab for applications from diaspora. With that it wouldn’t ask you for state in Nigeria

Please I made a silly mistake renewing my passport on the application form I had put my maidens state of origin in it hoping it was mothers state of origin that’s the only mistake I made and I had paid for renewal what do you suggest I do please ?
I really don’t get what you mean. But I can’t remember changing my state of origin in my application. I reckon you should be right. It’s just the last name being changed, I don’t think any other thing should change.

Yes it was posted. But you can track it to know when it’s ready for collection.

I cannot say for sure if it’s necessary but I used it for mine.

Sis. I’ve just finished my print out still bears my maiden name.
Mine had my maiden name after print out as well. But the man who did my biometrics wrote my new surname and reason for change of name on the form by hand.
I was a bit concerned at that time, but My new passport came in my new name when I received it eventually.

How long does it take to get the passport?
It depends on what you applied for.
If you apply for the regular 32 pages / 5 years, you should get it in a couple of days.
The 64 pages / 10 years take longer - I even hear it is currently unavailable.
