My family lived above the original bakery at 2117 Pierce st. For several years and also in a house Mr. Rotella owned directly behind the new bakery.
Sr. Was a kind and generous man. Seemed like most of the neighborhood including my mother ,worked at the new Bakery on the hill. I can tell you between all the families cooking in their homes , Malara’s restaurant which was in our same building and the bakery and Scarpello’s. It always smelled of amazing food from amazing families. He always took time to talk to the folks in the neighborhood and would have some of us kids meet him at Frankie and Phyll’s across the street to buy us sodas. He would tell us the importance of hard work and taking care of the people and places in our small Italian neighborhood.
Bottom line great Family and great bread.
