      Eric saw her ambition as an asset. Daria saw it as a threat. Daria only cared about harpers trauma when it could be leveraged. When told about the sexual assault in the elevator, she brushed it off because she had nothing to gain by disseminating that story. All the characters are grossly narcissistic but I really liked that ending and thought the story was a really interesting take on how capitalistic, self-interested feminism can be as toxic as sexism.

    If you work in this industry trust me Eric is a dream mentor to have as your MD. He was able to assess the appropriate disciplinary conversation with Harper weighing up the Allerton fuck up against her client service work with the other HNW client. He is never unfair and honestly the idea of his aggressive style being unsuitable for an IB's culture is a bit unrealistic. Characters like Daria never last on the floor. They have an unshakable chip on their shoulder and how she talks to Eric is more inappropriate than anything he ever does.

Yet Eric fell from grace in Season 2 thanks to the idiot global director Bill Adler. Am I the only one who felt Adler consistently came off as a lightweight?

      What you say reminds me of the time when no one thought much of Heath Ledger whereas Daniel Day Lewis, one of the greatest screen actors of all time, spoke out and talked about him like he was a gift from God long before he did The Dark Knight while everyone saw him comically in teen roles and a serious actor only when he did "Brokeback Mountain", before anyone else recognized what he was capable of in "The Dark Knight".
      Brett Ratner in Rush Hour and X-Men, Edward Norton, showrunners of Lost and Sopranos... they all publicly spoke out, saying Leung blew them out of the water and consider him one of the greatest actors of his generation skillwise, with an intense screen charisma and movie star presence. Norton said he stole the scene in the movie with his one cameo. So a show where he has a main role... oh boy. Just imagine him as a leading man. He could single handedly restore Hollywood to its FULL glory.

After a century of that being proven, they still don't understand.

    If you listen closely to Felim (client) talking, Eric didn't say anything to the client's wife but instead his own wife...Later in the series, you see Eric and his wife at the Christmas party "jokingly" mocking and insulting one another by saying "cunt" and other slurs. I think during dinner with the client and his wife, they might have mistook those insults during their conversation as being directed at Eric's wife in bad faith when they might have just been kidding around.

    Easily best written/acted character in the show. Not blanket good or bad, perfectly nuanced that it keeps the viewers intrigued, really looking forward to season 2. Now, I would argue he should have been sacked for those actions but Harper knows the experience better than anyone and she's right to mention that if someone else was in her shoes, it's really not an obvious right/wrong decision.

    • @KK-pm7ud
      @KK-pm7ud 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a bit unfair of a statement to say he's the best written character. Part of his character is that he is so confident and sure of himself most of the show. The show itself centers around young professionals finding their way; like babies stumbling across the floor until they can walk. Even Daria is still trying to figure things out

    The Character of Harper represents the revolutionarist out of an industry...She is different just like Eric was, before he got corrupted by the toxic culture of Pierpoint...Harper represents progress and reform...and the idea that the World financial markets are not limited only to graduates of Harvard or Eton but that interpersonal relationships and fierce competition is the underlying asset or bar, driving the price action at the floor of the exchange transacting change in price...

    When you are really working hard and getting things done you are not listening to other people's soundbites, you fix the screen and you ignore people around you, also, aggressive behaviour costs money because it disrupts trains of thought and significantly slows any task down by destroying concentration. NO ONE is immune to this. Time is money and low concentration time is money lost.

    I think a lot of comments are aware of the negatives of Eric but some are really glorifying him despite his extremely manipulative behavior. The guy is a horrible person, I think the show did a great job of doing it in a nuanced manner that doesn't make him just blatantly "bad" but giving depth to what grooming actually looks like.

    • @meivenheaven
      @meivenheaven 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He is not a good manager but he is great at his work. He has the shark dna this companies need the predatory instinct to take any opportunity to make money.
      He is not more manipulative than other seniors with aspirations and he embodies the real motives of these banks.

    • @mushroomsoup1991
      @mushroomsoup1991 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      yhh. He is so manipulative. I wish we see more of this part in the series. Everybody keeps saying about how harper doesn't deserve to be there and my question is- then why is she? Eric is no philanthropist, why doesn't he fire Harper? He knows he could give Harper things she never asked (extra raise), make her feel special and use "You would not be here if it weren't for me" line to make her his puppet and to be on his side since Daria and the other lady want him gone. He is using her as much as Harper is using him.

    • @adz123888
      @adz123888 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All the managers manipulated or controlled for their own agenda. Daria got a secret confession from Harper to get Eric fired and his job and later barely talked to Harper. Harper confessed to her, she got sexually assaulted by a client and Daria didn't care. Also Daris told Robert he was worthless.
