    I've had a lot of success mixing fabric/textile mediums into the recommended 50/50 with heavy gel and then adding glitter to it to give a bit of glam to tshirts. Doesn't come off in the wash 👌

    I lost my oldest daughter a few weeks ago. We are having some blown glass galaxy jewelry made out of some of her ashes. Hadn't thought about adding them to my paintings, but , now I am. That may sound creepy to some people. But, I know my daughter, she would LOVE me to do this!

      bluesageful I'm so sorry for your loss! I just wanted to say, I'm so impressed with your choice to keep your daughter close by using her ashes in such a beautiful way! I really love this idea, and I've been looking for options for myself, and I liked the idea of having my ashes planted with a tree seed, and growing into a tree! You have given me some other ideas, so thank you for sharing something so painful and personal with us! 😇

    I am more of a mixed media, art journal kind of crafter but I still love your videos. I use acrylic paint in a lot of my work so knowing more about them has helped immensely. Good tip as far as purchasing the mediums from the paint side of the store, first time I went to get some I thought why would I buy this little very expensive jar of medium when the exact same thing is available in a large jar on the acrylic paint side for much cheaper.

    I am SO SO SO grateful to have found your channel!! I started painting a few years ago, been doing it off and on. I have several unfinished projects because I get so frustrated because of my tools and whatnot. I knew that I was using cheaper paints(Basics) but I had no idea about student grade vs pro grade and I had no idea about flick resistance in brushes etc( ALL of my brushes are super soft, I guess I thought they made more sense LOL). I have been watching your tutorials for the past 3 days now and have learned so much!! I went out and bought 5 tubes of Golden based off of what colors I feel I will likely finish one of my projects with and I bought some stiffer brushes. What a difference! I have been wanting to buy Goldens for awhile because a lot of artists I follow use them but I would have no idea about all the mediums, brushes etc without your generous help. And thanks to this video I now know about Golden's free workshops and have found 3 in my area next month. :D Thank you!!!

    I Love You So Much Cinnamon!!! I have dabbled in painting all my life and really never knew how talented I was and how much people would appreciate my artwork until I started watching you and your mom's channels. I got inspired to start painting again and doing it the informed way. This video really answered so many of my questions about art mediums. I once stood at the medium section for 2 hours just looking and reading all the products and being brought almost to tears because I only became more confused as I read the back panels. Cinnamon, you took the fear and anxiety out of purchasing supplies and putting my brush to canvas:-) I really want to thank you so very much for being such a sweet, sharing and caring artist that you don't hold back information but lovingly spread knowledge and your joy of painting:-) I mean Wow!~I am actually building a private space in my back yard to start painting full time! This would have never happened if I hadn't found you and your mom Ginger on TH-cam!! I've said a lot but mean every single word I've typed here...Love you and your mom like family and wish you both all the love, health and wealth you both definitely deserve. I wish I could give you both a big hug:-)

      Thank you for responding to my post:-) See that right there is what I mean when I say you and your mother are inspiring and caring artists. I tend to be so critical of myself and want everything to be perfect which often stops me from painting all together. Watching the joy you have when painting gives me that little push to let myself go and not be so hard on myself. I'm a retired, disabled single mom and sometimes its difficult to find time for myself. I feel I have less time now then when I was working a full time government job. I've decided after watching several of your videos that I should make time for myself and do what makes me happy. Painting makes me happy and that's what I feel retirement should be "happy!" So, Thanks and keep inspiring me and others through your wonderful videos to enjoy ourselves and have fun with our art:-)

    This is exactly what I need right now. I've been looking at different media trying to work out what to do to find new texture to play with. What I would like to ask is, how essential is gesso on a canvas or paper? Up until now I've just been coating the base with matte medium.

    • @kaileybender4296
      @kaileybender4296 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matte medium is just as good. You're creating a non-porous surface to paint on either way, the only real difference is that the gesso is opaque and matte medium is transparent.

    Myyyyy! I love you soo much!
    And I'm real hard on liking people :) I'm hooked, it took 15 minutes to subscribe just because I was soo closely listening to you. But unlike others I known I'll never unsubscribe here!
    I am a HUGE fan of Golden too. I like how they tests their products (and talk about it on JustPaint) and how we can contact them when we have ANY questions on their products and how to use them. They are the only one I know that tell you what is not the best in a particular product (I mean like with GAC800 they tell you that the product alone has a "blurry" look to it, so they advise you not to use it alone or as a varnish). I don't know other brand that do this : testing, spreading their knowledge, and so.
    Well, anyhow, I really like what you do and how you do it!
    I look forward to watch other vids from you.
    Have a really good day!

    Thank you for the quest today!! Is there a a medium that will make my acrylic paintings have the look that plein aire oil artists seem to get in their landscapes? I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense....There just seems to be a certain look to it that I don't see in my acrylic paintings... is it just the color palette, is it the texture of the paint? I wish I could be more specific....Also, what is the shelf life for my golden heavy body paint? Will it last more than a year in the tube? :) Thank you for everything!!! I'm really learning a lot from you!!

    • @TheArtSherpa

      That would be Gac 900 to modify your acrylic paints for leather and fabric. They have tons of info on how to use it.
      Golden's acrylic polymer GAC 900 is for clothing artists. Blend it with acrylic colors to produce fabric paints. When heat-set properly, it offers a very soft hand and laundering stability.

    Hi Cinnamon! Thank you for continuing to demystify acrylic mediums. When I finally picked up a paint brush after a 40 year "rest" it was the mediums that created the most questions in my mind 😳
    I do have a question - After watching your video on grades of paint, I understand that the biggest difference between pro paint and student paint is the amount of pigment in each. When you "extend" your pro paint with a gel medium, after a certain point have you not just turned your pro paint into a mid or student grade?
    Hope that makes sense. Greetings from your neighbors to the north 😉

    Hello Cinnamon . I love mix media and use gel mediums (golden) to adhere collage pieces to my watercolor paper. However, I find the acrylic paint does not seem to cover. I like to cover my collage pieces with acrylic paints to make interesting backgrounds. What am I doing wrong? I use the little bottles of acrylic paints like Folk Art or Deco.

      @TheArtSherpa  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is about the paint for sure BUT I think Deco has a line of high pigment artists paints now that might be the trick. I know I don't have trouble with my opaque high pigment acrylics.

    As an instructor using 16x20 canvases I need to facilitate getting a background on the canvas quicker while have the students be able to blend as they apply the background. So I need to slow down the drying time. What mediums should I have them use? Thank You!

    Thanks. Heavy body doesn't work well for mixed media or art journaling in my experience that is why I stick to fluid acrylics. DB is having 40% discount on Golden. I'll give them a try. dp

    Hi there! I've been looking at all your videos and I think your so amazing! I love how you explain everything and how you take your time painting and teaching.. I want to make sure I'm on the right track when buying my products...I have acrylic paints,gesso, canvas's, an easel and I've bought 3 products to help consistency or flow but I'm still looking a little confused as to how to use them or When to use them.. my acrylic colors tend to dry quick because of the area I live in... as you said before climate can change our paints and paintings. So here are the products I've gotten; and my questions...
    Product #1 Pebeo: studio acrylics/ auxiliaries- GEL brilliant gloss (is this added to the paint to increase thickness or smoothness? And also, can I use water with it or will it get super sticky and hard to clean like oil based products?) Product #2 Windsor &Newton: water mixable oil, painting medium (does this work well with acrylic paints? What exactly can I do with the this?)
    Product #3 Golden: acrylic glazing liquid gloss ( is this the same as product #1? And is there a difference in this and the other gloss ? How do I use it?)

    Drats I bought the Matte Gel medium and now wish I would have gotten the gloss. lol ARGHHHH. I got a 16oz tub too. And I bought the wrong varnish. It is Liquitex Matte varnish. I must have been in a matte mood. lol I can return one. So I will return the varnish. The other I ordered off from Amazon. :D Thanks so much for all of this cool Info!!

    I don't know if you knew this, as Open is controversial IN the paint. If you add a pile of Golden Open to your palette, and you dip your brush in it after you have laid down the paint, such as when blending cloth,, you can use a scrubby brush (I use cheapy bristle brushes for this in all sizes) and you can reactivate the paint so that you can blend it...voila! It reactivates the paint so that it blends like a dream. I come from a pastel background so working with acylics has been a fun challenge; and discovering this was like magic. According to Golden rep, Scott, Open doesn't impact the paints like the retarders, and it dries just like acrylics. That is true, it does!

      Liquid Glazing medium by Golden ~ it's two in one . Slows trying time for blending and also lets you glaze

      Also wanted to mention that prior to posting here I emailed Golden, and not only got a good explanation of their products in the reply ( and a welcome to the painting community), but they are going to send me some samples so that I can try some things out before parting with my cash. They will definitely be getting me as a customer when it comes time to replacing some of my other supplies

    So is that yellow that was mixed with the gloss gel and medium as strong a color as just the paint alone? It was just sort of left there.

    can you use gloss medium and varnish over craft paint. I paint with craft paint because I'm on a limited income.

    Your skin looks so dewy and beautiful!!! I have a question... I have been painting a lot of pop art and so the paintings have very clean lines and bright bold color. So not much layering or blending. I usually just use water when I paint, but I think it is breaking down the pigment and I find myself doing 3-4 layers of (Golden and Liquitex) paint which takes hours! If I used the gloss fluid, would that help it flow without breaking down the pigment?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Amanda Cypert For POP are I would switch to a soft body paint. There is a Fluid medium you can use until you make the switch Fluid Mediums perform much in the way that their name implies, they are fluid in nature and reduce viscosity of heavier paints and gels. They tend to self-level and do not retain brushstrokes. Liquitex Fluid Mediums modify acrylic paints in a variety of ways and contain acrylic resins to maintain or enhance adhesion and durability. Hope that helps

    Thanks for sharing all this info! Got a question(s) for ya. :) Can you tell me, how long with these mediums last in the jar? Do they dry out and how would you know? Is there any way to restore them?

    • @kaileybender4296
      @kaileybender4296 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you have the jars sealed tight when you're not using it, it should last for quite a long time… I have some Liquitex products from 2001 that are still good

    • @Naturally336
      @Naturally336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your response. I wasn't sure if it was worth purchasing the larger amounts if it would only last a few months. Do you know, can you dilute them with water if they seem too thick?

    • @KaileyB616
      @KaileyB616 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Naturally336 yes, you can. Just be careful not to use too much or it will cause issues with the binder, etc... But yes a little bit is fine. I will often use a little spray bottle to mist water into jars of mediums that have been open for awhile/are starting to dry out also.

    • @Naturally336
      @Naturally336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know. I still haven't played with mediums much, but I think I'm getting close as I'm just about full with all the other paraphernalia. Too much to get all at once. :)

    Hi!! I just found your site a couple days ago and love it! I'm brand new to painting and am really enjoying it. I do have a question about buying mediums. You said people are buying a sample size items in the multi media aisle for about the same price you pay on your side of the aisle for a tub... what is your side off the aisle?
