Lao food is Earthy,,down to the basics. (We) take what is available in the local area and surroundings and make wonderful meals. It is you can say the peasant food compare to Thai food ,,I am Thai but i LOVE Lao food much better in terms of its complexity of the ingredients and simple preparation.
I tired this of the best things ever, gf's mom made this its really good. its ate it with sticky rice and pork rinds with a little bit of whole deep fried tilapia. also served with a like cabbage on the side. its kind of spicy but, it didn't look as thick when my gf's mom made it maybe its just a preference, since she did use fermented fish and crab and instead of shrimp paste.
Mmmm...I remember how much I loved the green papaya salad made at this market. This looks so yummy! Although I wouldn't eat the raw crabs lol, but still yummy. I'm drooling now! Best papaya salad video! Thank you for posting (:
Panasonic Lumix is an excellent camera. I had one and it took great video. I always buy my still cameras based on how good their video is. Lumix is excellent. Quality of this video is excellent, and I am very hungry right now -- great video.
You're not the only one. I make myself hungry looking at my own papaya salad photos too. I feel for you, it's real suffering when we don't get our spicy food. Try not to get too cranky being without chili peppers for 10 days and give yourself a big feast afterward. :-)
Pls keep your comments to yourself if you don't understand it hate when ppl make dumb comments like that look nasty., smh then don't watch it and why even look it up if you think it's nasty!
that stuff was fish sauce. trust me, there's enough salt there to kill anything haha! (feel free to look up how its made! i find it an interesting process, and fish sauce is an essential flavoring in almost all my favorite asian dishes)
Looks super yummy. I don't mind the live crabs at all, in fact I would love the live ones...it's the rotted cherry tomatoes that makes me cringe...some of them are moldy.
Peasant foods exist in Thai cuisine as well since Thailand is also made up of poor people who use whatever ingredients that are available from the local area to make their meals. Shrimp paste and coconut milk are peasant foods that became basic ingredients in many Southeast Asian countries including Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. Lao cuisine has both gourmet dishes and peasant foods. Similarly, Thai cuisine also has gourmet dishes and peasant foods.
Hi Darly love watching all your videos makes me hungry, just want to ask do you know where I can buy one of these wider mortar and pestle here in the US or where I can order from Laos thanks in advance.
Hi Bao, Thank you for watching my videos. I don't know any place in the US you can get one. My parents and relatives bought them in Laos and carry them in carry-on bag back to the US. Please check the various Thai online grocery stores? They might have it.
on a more serious note, there are parts of the world where stuff prepared like this (raw and or fermented) is very much a common cuisine and rather healthy. I'm not sure where you're from, but the US FDA considers it unsanitary to use the same chopping board for meat and vegetables (concerns about cross-contamination i think); but i don't bother with that in my house and never have. i'm alive and kicking lol and I'm sure i'm not the only one! so don't fret =)
Where is this. I went to Thailand Laos. I've tried the papaya salad in Thailand. It's much different from this. I'll come back to Laos sometime. Where this this?

Yes. Like shrimp paste it’s what gives them darker color
Why the crabs still alive? I don't want to eat if I saw something still alive in there, but it looks yummy though.
