  • Over 60% of the population in Goa is Hindu. This may come as a surprise to you, but yes it's a fact.
One thing that was even more surprising was the fact that the Hindu Saraswat cuisine is so under represented, and now that I have tasted it, I will have to say, everyone deserves a taste.
We met with Sapna Sardesai, the owner of the restaurant Kokum Curry in Goa. We learnt from her how traditional Saraswat Cuisine is distinctly different from the usual Goan-Portuguese fare, and we tasted several delicacies that are served every day at this beautiful restaurant.
Also my vegetarian friends and followers you will not be disappointed, there are more green dots on the menu than the red ones.
Come join me as we discover the undiscovered...

Saraswat cuisine is the best among all fish receipies.. I have eaten fish at other states, types but didn't like much. I miss my grandmother's food. Typical sarswati food with divine taste.. Even i still remember dhondus, sasav etc damn good vegetarian dishes

Goan Saraswat food is something even we Catholics drool about.
As kids and even now we Goan dont cook for Charurty coz we get this parcels from all neighbors and we look forward every year.
We actually have to fix days with friends that for Chaturti or Dewali we will be having lunch or dinner coz other days is for our other friends. It's an awesome experience we never miss non veg.

Very few know that the catholic community from Mangalore is from the GSB community. Being one from Bamon. The cuisine and food is similar to the food that we have at our homes and prepared during festivities. I am glad to know that these cuisines are not dying by the influence and introduction of the global cuisines. Great work team Khane main kya hai to show the hidden treasures!!! Kudos!!

GSB from coastal Karnataka here. The names of many dishes are quite familiar to us here. Madgane for us is a sweet made of Bengal gram, Gud, and coconut milk, thickened with finely ground rice.
A list of Saraswat dish genera that go with rice:
    1. Varna.
    2. Toi
    3. Kadi.
    4. Tambali.
    5.. Gashi
    6.. Ambat.
    7. Humman.
    8. Sukke.
    9. Upkari (two genera with the same name)
    10. Panna Upkari.
    11. Thalasan.
    12. Sasam. (two genera with the same name, maybe even three.)
    13. Kismore (two genera)
    14. Nonche.(pickle)
    15. Kuta. (another genus of pickle with a short shelf life)
    16. Tambide (another genus of pickle with a short shelf life)
    17. Koddel.
    18. Puli.
    19. Yogiratna.
    20. Chakko.
    21. Gaslate.
    22. Bharte.
    23. Bajji
    24. Sagle.
    25. Hullala - a salad.
    26. Pachadi.
    27. Sanna Kotto - a savoury baked idli (baked in Jack leaves) served as a side dish with rice meals.
    28. Sanna polo - a savoury thick pancake served as a side dish with rice meals.
    29. Patrado.
    30. Dangar - Savory fried cake.
I could have missed a few.
We also prepare South Indian dishes such as Sambar, Rasam and Saru at our homes.

Excellent production Kunal. Kudos to you and the team. Only one sour note was the background music. It doesn't go with Saraswat food!
    Kokum curry, Candolim👌

It’s pleasure to see the foody eating ! Every one who cooks love him . I would visit it . My mom in law was a Saraswat Wagles of the Mangeshi temple . I learned mung curry from her.
You are saying vegetarian but what I see is a fish and chicken too ? I love them all in any way .

Awesome spread... But I guess, looking at the restaurant, the presentation, and the vibe, at the cost of that table full of food, one could buy a plot of land nearby!

Recently , I was in Panaji and visited two places which offer some of dishes from GSB cuisine: Kokani Canteen and Ritz. both of them are highly recommended if one is looking for veg and non veg GSB food. Most of the dishes shown in this video are also served at Kokani Canteen .Next time , when i will be in Goa, I will surely go visit this place.

Your title confused me completely...I was wondering ..which saraswat ??? Than you said Gourd Saraswat ....!! So there's a big difference of preparation of food between Saraswat Brahmin community and Gourd saraswat community ..pls correct your title .it's not just saraswat..it should be Gourd Saraswat ...and do show saraawat Brahmin community food which is complete Vegetarian food there's non veg also again a different prep.Than we have konkanasth Brahmin community. Definetly will visit kokum curry ....thanx we Vegetarians can enjoy as well.
