PURISTS SCROLL AWAY NOW- This video is a bit of a hack job but due to corrupt memory card and a crashed memory card I had to do a quick how to to coincide with adding the cones to my web site.
Bob's beast fleye is an iconic pattern and it pains me that I "cheat" to make them( Well most of the time anyway).
Nothing will beat a well tied beast with thread dams and prime 6 Inch bucktail. But for those that don't have tails that hair that's just perfect for a hollow tie keep reading...
Being based in the eu getting prime bucktail consistently was hard and has become even harder since 2020.
Plus being a commercial tyer I'm always on the lookout to make tying a tying process quicker.
Enter the "Beast Cheats" a series of custom made cones to replace the thread dam and control the flair of the hollow tied bucktail when you tie on mono extension . Using these cones it's easy to get just the right angle to create that big profile using sub par 3.5/ 4 inch hair. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Great product! As soon as you have more in stock I’m going to order.
Great video and I am immensely enjoying tying with the cones I recently bought. Two suggestions and a question:
1. I stack all the cones on my bodkin before I get started (biggest one goes on first); makes things go just a tad quicker
2. I blend my flash / angel hair before putting it into my prep station; fewer ties and seems to distribute a wee bit better
3. You are really fast putting your nor vise bobbin down....takes me a few secs to wrap it on the post. What's your secret?
Awesome!
Rinsing bucktail flies, with or without a hairdryer, really does improve the profile of the fly. But when you use the fly in the water, and let it dry naturally, the bucktail always reverts to its original hyper-flared shape. Am I missing something here?
👍🏻
Ah the inaudible mumbler beast!😢
