OCI Application | prepare Photo and Signature images for upload using Preview on Mac | subraman

During the India OCI card Application process either for a new card or for a renewal of an existing card, one is required to upload images of photograph and signature. The uploaded images need to be of certain dimensions, adhere to a certain height / width ratio and be within a particular size.
If you are on a Mac, you can use the Preview software to work on your scanned photograph and signature images to crop them to appropriate dimensions and make them ready for upload. This video demonstrates how you can do so.

Thank you so much for this video sir. After wasting around 2 hours, I ran into this and made my images under 5 minutes. This video should be promoted on the OCI website so people don't loose their sleep and time on such dumb application process. External Affairs ministry should feel ashamed to keep the process so tricky and confusing over the last 6 years and not evolving.

Which app did you use for taking the photograph, in Walgreens, they are not providing a soft copy

If you have access to a printer / scanner, you can get the prints from Walgreens and scan separately. Else you can go to FedEx center and get the photograph scanned.

Hi, I am confused on the VFS global website it say cant be more then 30kb. but you saying it can be 200kb.

Hi Gursharan, Actually the size limitations have been relaxed further. It is now 500 Kb for the Signature and Photograph respectively and 1000 kb for the document uploads (drivers license copy, US passport copy and OCI information pages copy). The 500 kb limit for the Signature and Photo is clearly stated in the Instructions section once you access ociservices.gov.in. As for the other documents, once you reach the section where the uploads are needed, it clearly states the limit as 1000 kb. Pretty decent size limits. I scanned mine in 200 dpi and each of the files were very much under the limit. Hope this helps.
