I know that normally the mold is made of aluminum. For small runs of 10 or less could the mold be made of plaster? I'm looking into this for hobby level production.

I was thinking of 3D printing master model, than use silicone mold, as it is heat resistant. I guess you can use plaster for a small batch.
@ I was also thinking 3d printing the buck. my concern is that silicone wont transfer heat well enough or will distort the patch. But its an idea worth trying. would be cleaner and more durable I think.
depending on the size of your operation and how large your run is. I'm working on figuring out how to do this on a hobby level. 50 or less on out of my garage.
It comes from the CNC machine and guess what we make both these things the dye and custom logos and yes, it wont take 3 months, it takes 7 days to make 3000 logos.

What are the inks used in this? Are inks mixed with something?
They're PVC with pigment added in. You can produce similar patches with silicone but its not as common.
