Some parents don't want their child to put up hope too high since it can cause them some damage if they fails or she might become arrogant. That's probably why her mother always look down & question her. I think she knows her daughter is pretty since she's pretty herself but this world is a scary & dangerous place. If her mother really is toxic, she wouldn't stop at the market for hours to just look at her daughter's picture. Deep down she's proud & maybe a little bit scare if anything happen to her beautiful daughter. Most older generation are like that. If we look at a bright side, we will not hate or judge them easily. They've experienced a painful journey & probably afraid their offspring might take a same painful road. Sorry for my bad English. It's just my 2 cent. Since i tried to understand my own parents, i thought they hate me so much and as i gets older, I've come to realise it was actually the opposite. I hate & resent them for few years without knowing their true intentions. I regret it.
I like that kind of mother than someone who push you so much ,very supportive and have you up of the pedestal but when you failed they get so disappointed and you get disappoint but instead of comforting you they go nag at everything that you should and shouldn’t done this/that 😌
