this is the first positive evaluation of cop29 i heard. the rest claims it was a useless theatre. the money is way bellow what needed and non-binding commitments have already filled up the loft.

A very well structured presentation pro oil industry presentation, with just subtle pro-fossil fuel messaging integrated, just enough to sound viable at offering / listening to the other side arguments. Some slight attack on a few, relatively irrelevant issues / countries / producers , while making grounded arguments for support of messaging some specific bigger players. Showing "both sides of the argument" but with a slight nudge of hand to carry credibility. Me, with over 30 years in Corporate Communications experience globally, I would be extremly proud if I were the communication strategist from the oil industry guiding these messages through a well spoken older engleshman.

This is a fascinating topic. As a scientist of a sort, my biggest problem with understanding the practicality of policies is not so much the theory of what greenhouse gases do, but rather whether the statistics cited have validity. To cite a simple example, for over 20 years, I have been looking at first floor economies that imply people live in the unlit and unheated buildings visible around me. If I walk around my block right now, there are 9 apartment buildings counted as full and counting as being heated. Yet, the lights and heat are off . If I take a train to look at my city’s skyline or look at the skyline using the livestream skycam, , the lights and heat are almost all off on a dark day like today - and have been off for years. So what are the actual statistics? We need Domesday II. Then these discussions won’t seem like such a bell-ringing distraction from the reality I have plenty of photos and videos of. There are other intervening variables too that never get discussed when counter-narrative.

If governments can find a way to tax us for something we need, surely the whole narrative must be questioned.

Look at the all too frequent extreme weather crises we are already experiencing: the fossil fuel industry has damaged the present.

How about reducing energy and consumption. Oh that's too difficult?

replacing techology to reduce energy consumption takes longer. but replacing source could be done quickly. also implementing recapture facilities you be quicker too.

All academisc will give excellent presentations, but they do not give solution on energy transition, solutions which keep the economy alive, not sopution on paper?
Then what surprises me, not the speaker on presentation, is that Venezuela emission per barrel oil produced is 397 kG/bbl when the combustion of oil has average emission 405 kG/bbl. Strange, haw this can be economic for Venezuelian oil industry? Do They burn 98% and sell or use only 2% of the oil. Probably experts including Prof Myles Allen may have an answer for the topic?

If you know anything about Venezuelan economy this is just one of many perplexing inefficiencies of it

the way i understand this is - Venezuela emits 397 kg/bbl to produce and then 405 kg/bbl more when you combust / burn a barrel of oil, which ever country in comes from.
