Stargate Fighter (or just Stargate as it is called on the box) is a game for the Acorn Atom released by Acornsoft as part of Games Pack 8 in 1981. The author is David Gilmore. Also on this pack were the games Gomuku and Robots.
The Acorn Atom Games Packs from Acornsoft featured three relatively simple games in each pack. Stargate Fighter has your ship defending against aliens that are warping in through the stargates at the top of the screen. You can shoot the open stargates, forcing them to close for a few seconds and scoring mystery points. Three types of aliens attack - Gliders are worth 5 points and head straight down. Swoopers fly down at an angle are are worth 10 points. The third type of alien is the Diver which is worth 15 points.
This is a perfectly ok left-right fixed shooter for the time on the Atom. The machine was very limited by today's standards - this game required just 5K of main RAM and 2K of Graphics RAM.
This run was made on the 26th May 2024 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill options and the final score was 212 points.
