Brad actually got paid next to nothing for this role. It was his love for other Guy Richie films that got him hooked and he actually ask Richie directly for a part and thank God he did! This is a legendary piece of film
As an englishman, it's honestly hard to put into words how good Brad Pitt is with the piky/traveller accent, like most English people can't do it that well, and it's an accent exclusive to us, so fair play to him for that, like they say in the film, it's not English, it's not irish, it's just, you know, piky

Stephen Graham lives in a village 5 miles away from my village. I've bumped into him quite a fews times in and around the small town that sits equidistant east of the two villages. He just walks around, grabs a Greggs snack and whatever. First time my friend and I recognised him he looked across to us and nodded, so we just nodded back. The next time we saw him he was walking his dog. He actually came across and said hello. Chatted for about 15 minutes about normal stuff like fishing and music and football. We asked if he gets any crazy fans pester him when he's not filming and comes home for a while. He said, nah, not really, which is why I love it here. People just let me go about my business like a normal bloke, he said. Still see him from time to time and it's normally just a nod or a cap doff or a "How'do?" Not many actors are like that nowadays. Even bit part actors in soap operas tend to be up their own arses, so it's refreshing seeing someone with legitimate credentials and fame just buck the trend.
Someones bound to already have said it in these comments, but "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" has got to be your next stop. its made by Guy Ritchie, has a host of great characters, a good plot and a ton of smart arsed lines. 11:19 I think you completely missed the fact that Brad Pitt's character was taking a shit behind that car! 12:51 Brad Pitt actually got paid a pittance for being in this film. He loved 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', he called Guy Ritchie up, asking for a role, screw his A-List Hollywood salary, he wanted in! Ritchie gave him the role of Mickey. Pitt had just finished Fight Club, where he got paid $20 million, so he wasn't short of money, and still in incredible shape. Years later, it helped him as the guy who is sitting to his left at 16:50 is Jason Flemyng, who played his biological dad in 'Benjamin Button'. Flemyng was surfing somewhere in the world, enjoying life, when Pitt and David Fincher asked him to be in the film. Initially, Flemyng didn't want to be in it, but remembered how much fun Pitt was during the filming of 'Snatch' that he agreed. 33:58 When the dog bit the man, it actually bit his mobile phone. Another good British Gangster movie is 'layer cake' with Daniel Craig (it has one of the maddest beating scenes in it 'lets have a cup of tea!!')
Oh check out rock n rolla …revolver ..mean mechine ..smoking aces .. the boondock saints …and lastly the first one I recommended lock stock and two smoking barrels
Snatch is such an iconic movie, and it’s a genuinely one of a kind type film as well! There’s nothing else out there (that I can think of) that is like Snatch. Really glad you liked it! 👍🏻
It's one of my favourite films. It's stylish, funny, full of little quips you remember for years later and has one the worst/greatest Irish style accents ever. Plus Brick Top (Alan Ford) is so menancing.
Another link to Leeds United for you. Vinnie Jones played for Leeds in 1989-90. He won a promotion with them and is still seen as a cult hero among the fan base. They love him, he loves Leeds and has a tattoo on his leg to prove it. He used to bring out bouquets of flowers at every home game and hand them out to the disabled fans. He'd spend alot of time chatting to them instead of warming up for the game.
This is a great movie..Another I'd recommend is "Dirty Beast" with Ray Winstone, (and an amazing Ben Kingsley, (Ghandie) as the scariest villain you never want to see coming after you!
I'm sure it's been commented on plenty but the only Guy Ritchie gangster film which matches the quality of Snatch, arguably surpasses it, is his first one, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" ... it is a bonafide classic. There are 1 or 2 others worth checking out such as "The Gentlemen" and the under-rated "RocknRolla" - both are decent Ritchie Gangster flicks but neither quite manages to connect with that Guy Ritchie sweet-spot that makes "Lock, Stock" and "Snatch" such exemplars of that very specific genre
i think its not really a fault of the script or direction and more an issue with the casting. lock stock and snatch have a similar casting which works perfectly for them. rocknrolla probably is the only one that comes close casting wise to the original 2 but as a film gangster film i think the gentleman is better.
The guy you pointed out as also being in a James Bond movie is Goldie; one of the originators and pioneers of Drum n Bass. Love his music....though it's not for everyone. Look up Inner City Life by him.
Gorgeous George was a former Boxer and Rugby League Pro who played for St Helens called Adam Fogerty and the final fighter is a former pro boxer Scott Welch who ended his career with 22-4 record
Still one of the best English movies though...I never tire of watching it! Daniel Craig is great in everything bar Bond, but that's more the film's than DC(wish Danny Boyle had completed his Bond movie).
This and Love, Honour and Obey are my two favourite gangster films and both are extremely funny. We have made some great movies over the years but America doesn't seem to take to movies from elsewhere, or they do second rate remakes like the Hollywood versions of The Italian Job and Get Carter. You should also watch Trainspotting and the greatest comedy film ever made, The Life Of Brian.
I know one thing America can't do social realism that's for sure . And this film and love and honour they're ok they're great films actually but they're comedy films so for me they can never be up there with the likes of The long Good Friday or shooters Liverpool crime film (on TH-cam if you haven't seen it ) or Sexy beast or get Carter . For me those are the best IMO even dead mans shoes which on the surface is a revenge film but I'd lump it in there with those gangster films because it centres around a gang
This is the second film in a sort of trilogy. Different movies, but similar style and same director _(also a lot of crossover actors)_ The other two are Lock Stock and Two Smokin' Barrels _(which was mentioned)_ and RocknRolla, with Gerard Butler. If you haven't seen them, I recommend them. Great movies.
Brad Pitt contacted Guy Ritchie to see if the director had any part for him in his new movie, Ritchie responded "yes", but after the phone conversation was over, Ritchie realized that he offered Pitt a part in Snatch that did not exist. He rewrote the movie with a part for Pitt: Mickey O'Neil.
Brad Pit’s accent is Irish traveller. They also have their own secret language where they flip Irish and English words: the Irish for girl is colleen but travellers would say lackeen, or “ me biyor is going doin ’ the gabbin” meaning my girlfriend (biyor is supposedly a mix of bird and whore) is out begging. In England Irish travellers mixed and intermarried with Roma gypsies which created another mixed slang. The English call all travellers picky. Dunno if you’ve checked out Peaky Blinders, drama about a traveller/Roma gangster family in 1920’s Birmingham.
Everything you said there is true except for the words lackeen or biyor; there not Irish Traveller sayings; they are Irish. Most people in Ireland use them. Lackeen is a very old word and Biyor either started in Dublin or Limerick.
Isn’t it great when Brad Pitt really shines, that with “12 Monkeys” makes you appreciate the breath of his talent. Apparently Pitt demanded to be in this movie.
Of all the great characters in this film, Brick Top is easily the most underrated. Brilliant performance by Alan Ford. As a little aside, watch Snatch Wars on TH-cam, Snatch meets Star Wars with Darth Vader voiced by Brick Top, hilarious. Dennis Farina also looks like he really enjoyed playing cousin Avi as well, another brilliant performance.
If you want another excellent British gangster film then check out 'Gangster No1'. Such an underrated film that doesn't get the credit it deserves. Definitely worth the watch if you haven't already seen it.
I grew up on a council estate called Holmewood Bradford. And in an around Holmewood and Bradford. They is a lot of travelers. Brad pit is spot on with the accent.
If you haven't seen a movie called ' True Romance ' i would suggest it.Tarantino script, directed by the Brother of The Coen Brothers and with a stellar cast. One of my fav films of all time and criminally underrated
I told you that you wouldn't regret it. Also brad Pitt got paid about 20 grand for this, that's how much he loved the script. A word of advice to anyone who doesn't know but never call an Irish traveller a pikey, you will probably regret it.
@@thatsthat2612 i presume it comes from ireland as thats where i heard it when i lived there, i may have the spelling wrong, may not have the k at beginning, pikey is and english slang term.
@@thatsthat2612 In the 19th century the word was usually spelled nacker, and a nacker was a saddle or harness maker. Collins now gives (k)nacker as "Irish slang, a despicable person"
According to Wikipedia, ironically Alan Ford (brick top, pig man) who lives in Primrose Hill, North London has been a vegetarian since 1973. For three years he studied drama in all its forms: Shakespeare, Chekhov, restoration, commedia dell'arte, pantomime, music, dance, fencing, Stanislavski and improvisation. One of his tutors there at that time was the then unknown director Mike Leigh.
The SPAS 12 is not illegal in all states since the expiry of the Assault Weapons ban, (it is in Maryland though) Current price about $3700 apparently. and the Hipower is actually a 1911A1
When Bricktop says, "I'll cut your fucking Jacob's off", he's referring to a dry cracker commonly eaten with cheese in these Isles which is used as as Cockley rhyming slang for knackers or bollocks. Jacob's cream crackers...knackers.
When people ask me top 3 movies i always start out with this one the others can change. And at 27:02 is prob my fav. movie shot of all time. The colors and that look of sadness anger and determination in his eyes are brilliant.
Guy R hired a vocal coach to work with Brad Pitt to help him develop an Irish accent. The vocal coach said to Guy, I'm not being funny but he can't do the accent and there is no way i can teach him to learn one. So Guy just told Brad to basically ramble on with a kind of Irish accent. At the end of the day it made Brad even better in the movie. ❤❤
Snatch is ok and folk watch it I think, because Pitt is in it. I am however certain I'm not the only one, that thinks Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels the better film
Lock Stock is grittier and doesn’t have an all star cast which is why it seems better. Snatch is what happens when Guy Ritchie has honed his craft and has outstanding talent with him.
@@realburglazofficial2613 That may well be the case according to the wisdom of the greats, but it does not change how I feel about the movie, nor how the humour of one over the other appealed to me.
Most Brits know this but I thought some of you would be interested in knowing this Lock Stock the first of Guy Ritchie's crime trilogy was Vinny Jones' first movie he was until then "just" a highly respected footballer. He did the movie to give the money to the Nurses who'd been supporting his wife in her cancer care a nice caring thing to do that led to a huge film career
I should have mentioned this last time. A Desert Eagle .50 does not shoot 50 cal bullets. It's shoots, it can shoot upto AE 300 grain 12.7×33mm bullets.
The “Pig Feeder” if you’ve seen “An American Werewolf in London” he’s the cab driver 😁 Snatch, then Lock Stock, then RocknRolla are the must see trilogy for me

Oh check out rock n rolla …revolver ..mean mechine ..smoking aces .. the boondock saints …and lastly the first one I recommended lock stock and two smoking barrels
I agree two top movies
Agree , better than Snatch 👍🏻
Agreed
Snatch is such an iconic movie, and it’s a genuinely one of a kind type film as well! There’s nothing else out there (that I can think of) that is like Snatch.
Really glad you liked it! 👍🏻
As Vinnie is from near Watford, he arranged for Brad Pitt to stay with some local travellers to help perfect his character, not least the accent.
Brad is in London at the moment!....If he's meeting Guy Richie again..????!!!
Framcombes.
You really need to watch Snatch Vs Star Wars. Absolutely brilliant mashup. Edited together so well and frikkin HILARIOUS
I knew the "anything to declare?" gag would make you laugh.
This is a great movie..Another I'd recommend is "Dirty Beast" with Ray Winstone, (and an amazing Ben Kingsley, (Ghandie) as the scariest villain you never want to see coming after you!
oh yes I forgot that one. Though I think it was called Sexy Beast
Yes Sexy Beast! Quality film
Ben Kingsley as Don was funny an scary
_“You got very nice eyes, DeeDee. Never noticed them before. They real?”_
I love the Monty Python reference Vinny Jones gives in the hallway.
The gypsy's have an irish accent and the guy you said was in a James Bond movie is called Goldie and is actually a drumb and bass DJ in the UK.
Love RocknRolla brilliant film
The guy you pointed out as also being in a James Bond movie is Goldie; one of the originators and pioneers of Drum n Bass.
Love his music....though it's not for everyone. Look up Inner City Life by him.
Gorgeous George was a former Boxer and Rugby League Pro who played for St Helens called Adam Fogerty and the final fighter is a former pro boxer Scott Welch who ended his career with 22-4 record
Guy Ritchie’s done a few good ones, Lock Stock, Rock n Rolla, The Gentlemen. The Layer Cake and Essex Boys by others are well worth a squint.
Layer Cake was Matthew Vaughn not Guy Ritchie
The Gentleman is well worth a watch :)
@@finncullen I know. That’s why I wrote “by others”
The life of Brian!! I forgot about that film. So silly. Definately think they d love it!
Fix bayonets!!!!!
Guy Ritchie is similar to Tarantino in that you can watch their movies and tell by the style that it's theirs.
Bricktop is one of the top 20, maybe top 10 movie villains of all time, he is fantastic.
This is the second film in a sort of trilogy. Different movies, but similar style and same director _(also a lot of crossover actors)_
The other two are Lock Stock and Two Smokin' Barrels _(which was mentioned)_ and RocknRolla, with Gerard Butler.
Yeh Snatch Wars is brilliant.
I always think of Alan Partridge referring to him as “scary cockney man.”
Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels was also a great Guy Ritchie and I absolutely lobed his latest movie, the gentleman with some huge star Actors.
Maybe Guy Ritchies best film..The Gentleman is great too.
0:25 “laying in the bed and I came across snatch”…well now 😂
LOL
If you haven't seen a movie called ' True Romance ' i would suggest it.Tarantino script, directed by the Brother of The Coen Brothers and with a stellar cast. One of my fav films of all time and criminally underrated
Anyone outside of uk will not understand just how good brad pitt pulled this of. I think its 1 of his best performances ever
I told you that you wouldn't regret it. Also brad Pitt got paid about 20 grand for this, that's how much he loved the script. A word of advice to anyone who doesn't know but never call an Irish traveller a pikey, you will probably regret it.
in ireland they call them knackers
@@greygreen5610 really? Where does that come from. I know where pikey comes from but I've not heard knackers
@@thatsthat2612 i presume it comes from ireland as thats where i heard it when i lived there, i may have the spelling wrong, may not have the k at beginning, pikey is and english slang term.
@@greygreen5610 oh see I thought it'd have something to do with horses as in "the knackers yard"
@@thatsthat2612 In the 19th century the word was usually spelled nacker, and a nacker was a saddle or harness maker. Collins now gives (k)nacker as "Irish slang, a despicable person"
Another great movie from the UK is, 'Trainspotting' subtitles may be required for parts again. It's a very dark comedy
Love it
Watch "lock stock and 2 smoking barrels"
Another guy Richie gangster movie
Lock Stock is an absolute must watch
Tony Darko amen to that sir
The Dog squeaking made me laugh so hard, I thought I would burst a Blood Vessel Genius touch.
Thank God Thought I was the only one.It is genius.
His newest The Gentlemen is worth a watch, Hugh Grant is great in it
Hugh's best role ever imo!
Brilliant reaction buddy its clear as day to see you really enjoyed this movie
Lots of people below seem to have suggested this already, but "Snatch Wars" is a must if you know who Brick Top is.
Lock stock and two smoking barrels is a better film. The long good Friday is even better classic British gangster film
I was trying to find Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa the other night to stream, not easy
I prefer Snatch.
@@bremCZ blasphemy
How about: Get Carter, The Italian Job, Sexy Beast, Gangster No.1, and RocknRolla All to name but a few. Great movies.
@@TheIamtheoneandonly1 true. Get Carter and the Italian job are great
The SPAS 12 is not illegal in all states since the expiry of the Assault Weapons ban, (it is in Maryland though) Current price about $3700 apparently. and the Hipower is actually a 1911A1
That’s probably why I thought it was banned because I am from Maryland lol.
Lock stock and 2 smoking barrels has to be next!!!
When Bricktop says, "I'll cut your fucking Jacob's off", he's referring to a dry cracker commonly eaten with cheese in these Isles which is used as as Cockley rhyming slang for knackers or bollocks. Jacob's cream crackers...knackers.
Absolutely amazing film. Watch it again soon and you will pick up some stuff which you didn't realise from first time viewing
Pissing myself laughing at the subtitles on Brick Top - "I've got no time for grouses". You what, mate?
You should watch Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels next - pretty much the same cast but it's a great film
How is it the same cast? xDD
@@einstein999 yeh its not at all the same cast
@@einstein999 Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, Jason Flmyng have leading roles in the film. Some of the support cast were in both films
@@andywilliams8563 and Alan Ford
When people ask me top 3 movies i always start out with this one the others can change. And at 27:02 is prob my fav. movie shot of all time. The colors and that look of sadness anger and determination in his eyes are brilliant.
You must watch ‘Snatch Wars’ all of Brick Top’s lines dubbed over Darth Vader in A New Hope. It’s perfect!
Without any shadow of doubt my favourite film of all time. I could literally watch it every day and still laugh my tits off everytime
Love how Brad Pitt spent time in England with travellers to get into the role
Snatch is ok and folk watch it I think, because Pitt is in it. I am however certain I'm not the only one, that thinks Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels the better film
Lock Stock is grittier and doesn’t have an all star cast which is why it seems better. Snatch is what happens when Guy Ritchie has honed his craft and has outstanding talent with him.
@@realburglazofficial2613 perhaps, but I find the humour in Lock Stock to be superior as well as the film being earthier.
@@dalbhuie_youtubeaddedanumber Lock Stock was Guy’s Breakout hit, Snatch was his return to form, The Gentlemen was his Masterpiece.
@@realburglazofficial2613 That may well be the case according to the wisdom of the greats, but it does not change how I feel about the movie, nor how the humour of one over the other appealed to me.
@@dalbhuie_youtubeaddedanumber fair enough! You enjoy Guy Richie’s work, that’s more than enough for me!
You should definitely create a patreon to put full length tv and movie reactions up! You’d make some good money 👍
I should have mentioned this last time. A Desert Eagle .50 does not shoot 50 cal bullets. It's shoots, it can shoot upto AE 300 grain 12.7×33mm bullets.
One of my favourite films of all time - way better than Lock Stock for me - better script, plot, characters - pretty much superior in every department
you have to watch. lock stock too smoking barrels. And lock stock and four stolen hoves . both brilliant films
The “Pig Feeder” if you’ve seen “An American Werewolf in London” he’s the cab driver 😁
Snatch, then Lock Stock, then RocknRolla are the must see trilogy for me
The bookie hold up is actually something that happened for real in England, the two robbers were so dumb, that they were caught at the entrance, because they didn't know the door opened inward. And now you need to see a proper Guy Ritchie gangster movie; "The Gentlemen"...
Shallow Grave was his first film and still in his opinion the best he ever made!
Did you watch the whole movie "B"? Great editing, got the majority of the best bits buddy! 10/10
Jon Harris was the editor of the movie, a Legend of the business.
'The Gentleman' is great too, McConaughey is class as ever along with Charlie Hunnam
