Baisicly king dice and devil were adoptive parents of cuphead and mug man and kept them safe, as well as teaching a bit about gambling and the casino. Elder kettle came one day and noticed how they were letting small children gamble in harsh situations, so he later kid naps them to live a healthier life. The devil then decides to make the casino more serious and makes them get close to betting their lives, so he could one day meet his two sons, and take there lives back. When he finally comes and almost wins, king dice didn’t fully remember what to do, so he accidentally said to bet their souls, instead of their lives. They lose, and finally meet the devil, there father, who they think is the villain, and beg for him not to take their soul. He doesn’t, so he can make the deal later, and show the proof that elder kettle wasn’t their real father, and just a father figure. They defeat all the bosses, and come back to the casino, while the devil make his last offer to his sons to live their real life with him, or betray his fathers and try to kill them. This would explain how they knew how to gamble at such a young age, but it’s just a theory.
