  • Sweeney - The Movie is now available on DVD: mad.mn/sweeneydvd
Against the lush cosmopolitan setting of British cabinet minsters rubbing shoulders with oil potentates from the East and beautiful young call girls using every artifice at their finger tips to capture the richest prizes during a London-based oil conference, Detective Inspector Jack Regan and Detective Sergeant George Carter accidentally get involved in a gigantic top level conspiracy against the British government.
The Sweeney was ground-breaking television when it exploded onto TV screens in 1975. Gone were the proper, by-the-book cops of television old. In their place was the Flying Squad - the roughest, toughest men who threw away the book in their pursuit of law and justice. The crime squad consisting of John Thaw (INSPECTOR MORSE) and Dennis Waterman (MINDER, NEW TRICKS) were so popular that two big-screen motion pictures were released at the height of the series' success.

Love this film. Yes it's a bit different to the tv series, but it needs to be. Barry Foster is one if cinemas most underrated villains, hinted to be one of The Kennedy Family as The utterly ruthless Elliot Wainright McQueen. The finale is brilliant with that killer line...."THEY DISNT KILL HIM....YOU DID!"

The Sweeny was first shown on Thames Television in 1974 not 1975.
