The last two generations of Z06 corvettes are arguably the greatest bang for your used car buck on the sports car market. So much light is cast the new vettes that people forget these are blisteringly quick cars for the money now.
The craziest thing about what you said, too, is that it's basically a toss up between a Z06 Corvette and a Camaro SS 1LE. GM's value per dollar in the sports car market is simply unmatched.
My brothers father in law used to have one of these, remember my first time meeting him he took me for a ride and did a few donuts and a burnout. I absolutely fell in love with the C6 Z06
You hear that, auto manufacturers of today? 3100lbs AND a 7.0L under the hood. Those are fantastic numbers, with comparable and sometimes better p/w ratios than some modern sports cars. Chef's kiss.
I have a regular C6 and agree that it is just a gorgeous design. This 427 one in blue is lovely. I’m also glad that you noticed the heavy clutch: my car’s clutch is also heavy.
With head work and an aftermarket cam, you can add 180-200 rwhp. These are insanely responsive to mods. I've had one for 5 years so far, extremely happy with it.
As a Brit who loves AMGs, this is one of my favourite modern US sports cars. Raced one on the way to the Ring this weekend, in Germany. Sounded epic! And he loved my 55K too. Big cubes, Manual, & light weight!
Meh it's the most boring looking imo. C4 and C5 have more character and look better. In terms of modern Vets I'd rather have the C7. More distinct stylistically
Everyone always misunderstands what the leaf springs are. This is NOT of model T suspension system. The suspension is a modern multi link suspension at all 4 corners. The only difference is that instead of a coil spring the springs are transverse leafs that span between each side. It’s just a more compact way to build a spring. The only difference is the type of spring, not the suspension itself.
NGL, its cool how they made it work and not to mention how light the springs themselves are. I still think they messed up putting them in. first thing I did when i got my c6z was coils and it felt 10x better to drive. Its truly amazing how a slightly lower center of gravity and no cross talk really affects a car lol
C6 Z06 and ZR1 is all the sports car you need. I saw a picture of one parked next to a Ferrari 599 and the shape and proportions of both cars matched each other.
These are gonna continue to go up in value. As Monterey car week just proved 30s to 70s cars aren't as desirable anymore. The new enthusiasts want these types of cars.
I have had 4 Mustangs, including my current weekend car, a 21’ GT PP1 premium in Ox White over Showstopper Red 6 speed. My dad had Lincolns. My sister had two FIVE OH’s. Our Class C 23’ Jamboree Ralleye when I was a kid was pushed by a 460 Econoline by Ford. Our dogs name is Shelby… But I adore this car. This very car. For a brief 11 month stint during COVID when I was living apart from my family while working 2 states away, only seeing them on the weekends. I pulled the trigger and bought this exact car. 2007 C6Z in Lemans Blue with 21k miles. This was in June of 2021 and I got it for $43k. Had it shipped from San Diego. This car is a monster. First and only mod I did was brand new rubber. The tires had a date code from 2006 so needless to say to say the car needed tires and boy when I got them on, the car came alive. Straight MEATS in the back. I wanna say 335’s. It was $2100 to wrap all 4 corners but worth every penny. I enjoyed the heck out of this car and wish I had kept it. I sold it prior to moving back home after my time away had expired. It was a selfish purchase as I have 4 kids. But it was the time to do it and in the mid 40k’s you can’t find this much performance. When released in 06’ C and D and Motortrend ran it against the Ferrari 430 and the 911 turbo and the Vioer ACR. It roasted all 3. On a track, yes with curves. I wanna say it was VIR. Car is still a monster today and at its original release it must have been out of this world
If one car can be called iconic it would be this , that power to weight ratio for its era is insane and the pure raw power of a 7L NA V8. This car will always be one of my favourite cars ever made.
I drove my old Mazda on the Autobahn and a C6 ZR1 flew by me like im standing 😂 since then the C6 got a special place in my heart, the sound is raw and brutal! And crazy how you can go over 100 km/h in the first gear. Just amazing and still affordable for "normal" people.
as an actual owner, I can say, this is a VERY VERY GOOD review and parallels my own impressions after 5yrs ownership of a slightly newer version (improved steering feel, and improved TR6060 gearbox). Superb for road cruises on windy roads, and a blast on track (with several reliability and other improvements). Love the analog interior and gauges and the 3LZ model brings it closer to the europeans.
I’ve driven with these in my club with my R8 v10 manual. Was super impressed. Didn’t handle like my car but way better power to weight ratio. This is definitely the one I’m looking at to add to my collection. Amazing value for the performance. Thanks for sharing.
I think this will go down as my all-time favorite Corvette. Just a big NA V8 under the hood in a tried and true front engine RWD layout. Pure classic formula before it was all about supercharging and more complexity.
As a kid growing up in the early 2000s these cars were everywhere in south Florida. I’ll never forget seeing my dads friend at Daytona speedway doing 200mph.
I love the c6 z06, even more than the c6 zr1, the car was mind-blowing when it came out, almost like how some of the electric cars today have mind-blowing specs. I loved clarksons review of it; he equally praised, and panned it. “This is like a shifter out of a backhoe” (or something like that)
Imo the C6 ZO6 is the best Corvette ever produced. Hell maybe even the best American sports car ever produced. Everyone raves about the C6ZR1 but I’d much rather have the NA LS7 over the boosted 6.2. Beautiful example that I’d saw off my pinky finger with a rusty butter knife to own, lol!!
The c6 will forever hold a special place in my heart. Here and there I get to drive one of my buddies base models c6 with an n/a custom 454 lsx engine and built trans, that thing is something else, looks and sounds beautiful.
Yes!! Someone else who appreciates the C6. Absolutely my favorite modern corvette design. Can’t argue with the C8Z and that motor but C4,5,7 and base C8 are easy skips.
I remember when this car was new in 2006, they had a New Black Z06 in the Chevy dealer showroom and it was unlocked, so 14 year old me jumped in and closed the door. Tinted windows nobody could see me inside. It had 3.3 miles on it. And a button to start the ignition, so high tech atthe time for an American car. Literally they had just pulled it off the delivery truck and gassed it up. I remember the msrp on the window sticker was $80,000 which was expensive back then.
I own an Atomic Orange Z06, and wouldn't drive it for three years due to potential valve issue. Finally had mine done last year, and feel confident my engine will hold together now. It's not if, but when you'll drop a valve. Mileage only matters depending on how true the guide was pressed. How do you know your valve guide specs, unless you do an internal inspection? Get heads done, you can't buy a GM LS7 crate motor any longer.
I have gone from a C3 to a 4, 5, 6, 7, and then landed for good with a C6Z06. My favorite, hands down. A Jetstream metallic blue that has almost 9k on it. Not bad for an '08...Definitely a sweet ride!
Speaking of the engine in the C6.R, yes it did have the 7.0L V8 at one point. More specifically, the C6.R GT1 had the LS7.R which made about 590hp. Then later came the C6.R GT2 which initially had a 6.0L V8 then they switched to a 5.5L V8.
A manual trans, a healthy V8, and a winding road is the best therapy for whatever ails you. Fond memories of my notchback 1989 5.0 Mustang with an 8 point cage, subframe connectors, spring and shock package and maybe 300HP. Not a Z06 but every bit as fun.
These are right proper. I think my love of Corvettes dates back to watching Clarkson rag a ZR1 around Nevada and at Bonneville. Also I love that you have to blur both the speedo and the HUD
Ever since seeing the C6 in NFS MW it is a one of my dream sports cars. It is just so beautiful that I couldn't care less about how it handles or the build quality of the interior. This spec is also outstanding, the rims on this one are 11/10.
I have to say that the quality of this video both in visual quality, as well as knowledge, details, information, and telling the story about the car goes far and above so many other videos covering cars and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the little details you display that you wouldn't know without driving one yourself such as the engineering strengths and weaknesses, and the odd quirks like the skip-shifting and everything in between! Loved the video and you've earned a subscription for sure!! Keep up the great work!
@@TedwardDrives I can't wait to see more videos and cars from you! Any chance you could get your hands on a Ford Mustang GT350 or GT350R for a POV drive? That's one of my favorite dream cars with so much character and some incredible engineering! Cheers man!
i recently sold my c6, was a base 3LT so it was fancy but not aluminum chassis fancy. zr1 body kit carbon hood and a zo6 front bumper. now onto the good stuff, it had a Tick built 6spd manual paired to a Thompson Motorsports 427 Gen4 LS3 sitting on Silvers coilovers and grand sport 22' wheels, absolute RIPPER on the road I'd let it eat for a split second on the highway and look at the HUD to see 140 and yet the car is as stable as it is at 30mph in town. They handle like an arrow in the straights and a slot-car in the corners its amazing, not to mention even with the low comp pistons and the massive custom grind cam all setup for a supercharger (car remained N/A) the stroked LS3 in it would get 30mpg ON A BAD DAY, usually id sit at 35-37 highway and about 23-27 city on a factory fuel system paired to a boost-a-pump. I ended up selling it because it was NOT a practical daily the way the car was set up however the car was a blast on the weekends going to shows and races, also the 2-step was an attention grabber and being a former c6 owner I'm sure you can guess how much I like attention to my cars lol, if your in the market for a good sports car around 40-50k or even way below to the 20-25k range you CANNOT beat the bang for your buck you can get out of corvettes, Camaro's, CTS-V's, and their captive import cars such as the Holden's rebadged in the states (G8, GTO, SS sedan, Caprice) plus much more of their cars, used to be a big ford guy but I mean GM offers budget friendly reliable power and performance you cant really beat and it can range from sporty trims of casual commuter cars all the way to supercar territory with the new and previous ZR1's
Loved mine. Very fast and it handled well and and had a great sound. The Z06 didn’t have much insulation into the cabin. I had some mints in the center console and they melted.
The speed of these things is insane. Even going from 30-60, which in my Mazdaspeed 3 would be a pull through 2nd and 3rd, this thing does it all in second gear and doesn't even hit redline. Wonderful video!
Whoever gets this one will love it. I love my modified 427 and plan to be buried in it at some point. The only thing that keeps up with it is my CTS-V. Heads was the only issue you had with the LS7, and if you replace those, why not add a cam upgrade at the same time.
If you have the opportunity you should drive a 427 convertible. Just got to drive one to Carlisle and it makes that LS7 sound just a little sweeter with no roof.
This would be the one for me, if I was in the market for a used Corvette. Always liked the looks of the C6 exterior. Felt it was the best of all the designs going back to the C2, Nice catch blurring the HUD as well as the Speedo...lol.
C6 Corvettes will always hold a special place in my heart, timeless car
It's timeless, modern enough and old school enough. Beautiful as well.
what a machine❤
Took the words right out of my mouth
Its the last real Vette…
Also It also has a lower drag coefficient than the C7 and C8.
The way the tach and speedo move almost synchronously in second gear is so satisfying.

ALL Corvettes are bang for your buck. LT1 C4s give you Type R performance for 10-15 grand.

This will give a C8 Z06 a close run from a highway roll as well.
That car is a truly american icon
The C6 is my childhood, by far my favourite corvette generation. Someone in my unit recently got a yellow c6 zo6 and it's gorgeous
The profile of a C6 Z06 is just perfect. It was such a great design. Short deck, long hood, huge power, great sound and fast as hell. What a car!

I’m not a corvette fan at all. But this car is pretty damn cool.
This would be the one for me, if I was in the market for a used Corvette. Always liked the looks of the C6 exterior. Felt it was the best of all the designs going back to the C2,
Nice catch blurring the HUD as well as the Speedo...lol.
The iconic lines of the C4 can be seen through the C7 models. This model, in particular, greatly resembles the C4 in the rear.
