Hi Steve this is a nice video. I had over a 1000 discus and many imports done over 5-6 years and it's true what you're saying - sometimes they need time, crank up the heat, let them get used to the setups. Sometimes they feel ill, but mostly it's just stress that needs to work out their systems. Love, from South Africa
Scuba Steve! Thank you for your knowledge. You are a genuine soul of the fish keeper. It is appreciated. I just brought home my first 5 discus and your videos are very helpful thank you. Subscribed and hit the bell! Keep up with the great content!
So I got 3 discus from my local breeder, the smallest one eats with no issues, the other 2 swim around like normal but won’t eat anything. I’m feeding the exact same thing the breeder feeds. Any ideas?
My discus stay'd 2 weeks whythout eating and i have no problem whith them.. But when they are all grown up are a litlle peaky whith the food they will eat just what they whant or you can try a water change because you have some left overs in the water collumn and that's a factor too... Thank you scuba steve for your video's and info about this beautiful fishes 😉
Just bought 6 about 16cm. size. Not eating! now for 5 days. I tried same food as LFS also some other dry cichlid food, just hatched brine shrimp also refused. Now I am waiting on beef heart (first delivery was sent wrong by vendor) and frozen adult brine shrimp. and frozen blood worms. I live in Southern China. and getting anything here takes a week! LFS have no frozen foods. So what shall I do? still not eating. One is a bit aggressive, I thought about putting it i another tank and another one in another larger tank . my 6 discus are now in a 45 gallon tank. temp is 28C to 29C. plenty of hiding places.. Established tank with ancistrus. just changed 60% water before introducing Discus into tank... Am I missing something?
I've had mine for a week now, and they are still not eating. I've tried several different foods. They did have swim bladder issues upon delivery. I have since fixed that issue.
what happens if the are younger? and i have 8 angelfish in my tank with 2 discus but they are small i am feeding them vibra bites, tetra flakes, brine shrimp and sinking pelets
Thanks for this video. I have a new Discus which won't accept any food except froze blood worms. I feed Hikari brand frozen blood worms. I'm trying to get him off from frozen blood worms to Hikari Vibra Bites dry food or Tetra Color Granules but it will spit out dry food. Do you have any suggestions how to handle this situation? Thanks in advance.
hi, yesterday i got a new setup and got 3 discus, its not eating at all. swimming good but not eating food. tried different foods but no luck , now i am worried.
Hey.. very helpful tips.. one of my discus has the same issue - it don’t take any kind of dry food and use to nip the fins of other discus as it’s food. Now I have isolated and trying feed different kinds of live/frozen then to dry food eventually. Kindly suggest me if any best practices. (For me getting Live / Frozen food is very hard)
hey man wasup, I just got 2 new discus and they havent eaten in 5 days, they got some tetras and some danios as well as a catfish as tank mates, the tanke is 140L, so idk man, what tips can u give me, ive tried everything
Aloha! Just watched video and it seems I have checked all the boxes that you suggested. I have one discus still not eating. Guy who brought them back from mainland reassured that the we're eating flake and able to keep them in cooler Temps. 78°. Discus that I'm concerned about I have offered a varied diet. I have blend of flake and small pellets, offered frozen blood worms, frozen beef heart, live brine shrimp. This guy is not interested in the least. I also increased temp to 82°. I've only had them for week and a half. The other 3 discus I purchased with him are thriving with great appetites.
Hi, nice vid! i have an issue with one of my discus. I've had em for about a month and they all been eating well! But suddently one of my discus is kinda afraid and wont eat. It's a little bit smaller then the others. Any tips on how to make it eat?
Hey, so I just got my second discus (marb red) because I had had just one for about three months. My og, a blood pigeon, has always had a higher flux of daily blackening/lighting back up. Ever since I got the marb though he’s looking blacker than ever. And he bit him between his eyes! There’s a reddening wound now. I’d seen him nip and chase him before but this is getting serious. And his edges are now also turning black. Parameters are normal, my ph was a little low but I’ve been treating it w phup. Should I separate them? Are they just stressing each other out too much?
Hey Steve! I have 1 discus out of 9 that suddenly stop eating overnight two days ago. So I haven't seen him eat for 48 hours. The rest are eating like pigs, but not this one. He goes by the top when I feed, but doesn't eat. He's not in the corner, and swimming around. it's weird since he was very active and eating like crazy and then suddenly stopped overnight. He doesn't look like he's bloated or anything. I'm not sure if I should move him to the quarantine tank and do some metro meds.
I'd move him and crank up the temp to 88 degrees. I think you're right to be concerned. Lots of water changes and a smaller tank to treat will go a long ways my friend before it gets worse👍
Heyy Scuba steve! I hope you can help me with my problem. I have 6 discus in 75 gal tank, have them for a year. I do deworm every month, wc regularly. They all look healthy and eats a lot! They are all getting big! But one day i noticed 1 of them stopped eating. Most people would say that he is bullied by the other discus, but no! He is the bully! When i feed them the other 5 discus are eating then i see this one discus pushing other discus, it's like he doesnt want to eat so he stops them to eat as well! But they are not bothered so they still continue eating. Then this one discus will just float there not eating! Been like this for more than a month now! What should i do?
I have one discus that has stopped eating and is getting skinny but still has brown poop. Also I have one that I never see eat, always in the corner but he’s not super skinny except the belly area. I’ve treated and have been treating for trichuriasis, filarial, tape, hook, and eel worm but haven’t seen a difference. Could fill flukes also be a reason why they won’t eat? Also I’m in Canada where meds are scarce
How long can they go without eating? It’s been over 2 weeks and I’m new to discus. I have juveniles... 6 from the same shop. 4 are little pigs and 2 won’t eat anything I’ve offered (4-5 types including home made beef heart mix) I even saw one spit out a live mosquito wriggler 😳 My next option is to move the bully 🤔
Just got 3 wild discus from Asia about 5in so the 3 of them are big and so far they see the other discus eat tetrabits but they won't eat, it's been 4 days I will try frozen blood worms to see if they will eat something ...
Hey Steve I got my five Discus for my 45 Gallons and they are looking at their food but avoiding it and it's been just 24 hours I dropped then in the tank, so should I give some time to those guys for settling in. Thanks in Advance
I apologize for the late response. I hope tour discus are okay. When the go on a hunger strike, you must be diligent and observe them. Normally, raising the temps to 88 degrees and keeping 55g them clean will spike that appetite!👍
Nice video I just started to keep discus and I currently have one but Im going to a more and I have the one discus with angels but my discus is really active but its not eating for 3 days now
Hey Steve! Thanks for the info. I just got into discus and they've been in the tank for over a month a they won't eat. I've given them flakes, frozen and dried shrimp, brine, but nothing. I will try what you suggested. Any other ideas?
Raise your temp to 88. Get some Epsom salt and give 1 tablespoon per gallon. That'll clear em out. Clean up the poo, big water change, add some General Cure if it continues and they won't eat after the Epsom salt and water change. Let me know if it helps.✌👍🐠
What if i don't really have the money rn to very the foods. I only got blood worms and flake food I always feed my other fish. I got him 2 days ago and he's still not eating. Is he still getting used to the tank?
Ok thank you i wll look for some on ebay do you can you tell me some good web sit beef heart mix with krill and shrimp web sit? Am going to trow away my frozen blood worm am tired treat it with metronidazole Thank for your help
Hey man sounds really dumb but I have a blue gourami and he won’t eat the flakes that I feed the rest of my fish I’ve tried special food but nothing seems to work I’ve treated him for parasites and all the things I could think of don’t know if you can help me because this video is on discus but love your Chanel and would love to hear from you
All tropical fish share the same types of ectoparasites and diseases in the home aquarium. It doesn't sound dumb at all my friend! Try Seachem Metroplex if you see white stringy poo or use it as a preventative. Fish not eating for more than a couple of days is not a good sign. You can also try to feed new fish, Hexshield by New Life Spectrum. It is medicated fish food with Metronidazole infused pellets. I starve them until they do eat it and I also use Garlic Guard to enhance the smell of the food. Water changes can help too. Just be sure before you start dousing your tank with medications. If you can get the problem cleared up, I'd use a treatment of General Cure monthly just because it's safe and works well preventing outbreaks! Easier to deal with the problem before it happens than to treat it once an outbreak occurs👍💯🐠😁
I recently spent $555 on a breeding pair of Blue Mosaic Leopard Discus from Discus.com, and they have turned down EVERYTHING. Chiclid Pellets, Flakes, even BEEF HEART. I think im going to have to treat them.
Whops, forgot to update this. They are actually eating and, just laid eggs today. But I did find that mushing up the beef heart made them eat more of it. That’s all the advice I can think of.
I definitely agree about no frozen bloodworms. All fish love them but they contain all kinds of nasties you don 't want your fish to eat. When I had discus mine liked freeze dried black worms with orr without spinach. The spinach is good for their digestive system .
Scuba Steve I would feed beef heart at first along with the black worms. Mine also ate beef heart and black worm flakes. Less water changes next time. When I change water it will be from a 55 gallon drum of aged water.
I can't wait to see the update! It's all about the water my friend you have it figured out. Gas it and age it, keep it to gank temps, small changes are better than big ones, and you have happy discus!
Hell yeah! Scuba Steve is back and in effect! Keep it going!
Thank you bruh!

I don't have discus, but severums and this shed some light on some concerns I've been having. Thanks for the upload and I appreciate your enthusiasm!
I appreciate your comments bud! I plan on getting some secerums here soon.

Frozen brine shrimp is a staple for small or juvenile fish! Love it!

hi my new discus is dashing and scratching on object...what is the cause!?
Most likely it's gill and or body flukes.

I have a video up on Prazipro. That would be my go to for treatment.

Is it possible for a discus to starve to death
Absolutely. Happens all the time. What do you have going on? 🤔
