Sorry, pero medyo kulang p Gilas. As of now, mababa p rin 3 point shooting ng Gilas. Good for Gilas, mas malalaki tyo, what if, mabaliktad at mkaharap tyo ng mas malalaki, mas mabibilis, at mas magaling s shooting?? Another thing is, look at Kai’s reaction kpag hindi sya napapasahan, especially ni Perez, nandoon p yung immaturity ni Kai. Dapat matuto p rin syang maging mas team player. Also, yung pasa nya n ang lamya, n naaagaw ng kalaban. I like Kai, don’t get me wrong, pero he still needs to improve his attitude and mature, pra mkapasok sya s NBA, at gumaling p sya lalo as a player
Agree na we have a deep talent pool. Coaching and Management will be a big factor para di masayang ang ating current generation. But with Coach Tim at the helm and Boss Al as Manager, we're in good hands.
Really love your podcast Kuya! I usually dont watch these typa podcasts dahil medyo nonsense yung analysis nila dahil sobrang babaw nila and may pagka bias haha. But I really appreciate you and the people you invite in terms of observations with Gilas, PBA and in general may sense yung takes ninyo. Kudos kuya Nico, I'll always listen to your podcast!
Agree, we don't have (never had, I believe) a shortage of basketball superstars in the Philippines. Coaching and managing lang talaga ang naging problems before. For example, at least ngayon, we've pinpointed that one of our problems in the past was fielding excellent players na kulang naman sa height. Now, we know better, and lucky for us, we have the luxury now of having these tall, talented kids who can match superstars from other countries. Also agree with "nagpapabugbog tayo sa umpisa"--we may not all be Ginebra fans, but I love the fact that Coach Tim, Justin, and other Ginebra players are used to getting out of sticky situations, NSD kasi. =) Pero yeah, ideally, we should have an answer to our slow starts...
I dont know if its the basketball culture pero ang hina talaga natin mag defend sa 3 points. Sa paint kayang kaya kasi malaki na din naman tayo pero yung mga pick and pop and 3 point shots hirap talaga at this point parang sakit na.
Yey!!! Thank you for a great podcast. Stress reliever ko talaga to after a very tiring day at work 😊👏.... The future is soooo bright for the 🇵🇭 basketball!!!
I love the fact that we have taller young guys playing 2-3-4 position…pag nag switch sa D sa taas, halos walang mismatch and they have almost the same quick lateral moves…wala lang, masarap lang panoorin at maging Gilas fan ngayon compared few years ago.
I think we should build a junior gilas developmental team. Those above 18 but still not in the men's team yet with potential. Guys like amos, caelum harris, francis lopez, konov, jj mandaquit, gemao, qmb, etc. Even some pros like abando, heading. They can train with the main team but will have a dedicated coach with them to learn and understand the system para hindi masayang oras ni coach tim sa pagtuturo. Para plug n play na lang in case we need replacement and may continuity sa program. Dagdag na rin ng skills coach para ma improve pa game nila especially sa 3pt shooting.
This is Alfrancis' pet plan for PH basketball. Build a pool of young cagers to be developed and trained not only for future national service but also for their income sources as skilled cagers
Kai, AJ(if he's healthy), QMB(if he can get a chance), Carl, KQ, Mason, RJ, SJ, Konov, and Gemao. Those were all I can think of right now. I hope those "back ups" can get a chance at least in SEA Games first so they can develop the chemistry.
Carl Tamayo at his age is more skilled than RDO, he just needs to be more "parent" (LOL). Quiambao is pro-ready, it just depends on what he wants to do. Amos still is some ways from reaching his ceiling, but among the three he is the one that another player who is ready to contribute can replace. We need to add another rim-runner to the line-up, we need switchable bigs. JMF/Japeth will still be able to compete but we need to prepare against injuries and lack of availability. Phillips of DLSU will be a welcome addition if he is eligible. QMB is another player I would like to see join Gilas. I don't like that Baltazar has overstayed in the MPBL, I had high hopes for him a few years back. To solve perimeter defense, we need another Gabe Norwood-type player in our program. We already have a surplus of playmakers, but we need guys 6'2 and above who look to create rather than shoot. Josh Reyes can run camps during the UAAP/NCAA offseason so that young players can get acclimated into the system, preferably insulated from "poachers" so that the schools will feel more secure that their players won't transfer. They don't have to be long, at most 10-14 days to minimize disruptions to their other activities. At the very least, the team can prepare replacements in the event of a quick turn-around for competitions.
Bro, we have a crowded number of players playing the No.2 position, you've got Dwight, CJ & Oftana, i mean they're good coz CTC picked them personally, as soon as Jamie Malonso becomes healthy enough to play for Gilas, one of these two players (CJ & Oftana) MAY not make it to the final 12, just speculating here, i could be wrong.
@@JohnBenedictuyReyes The program will need to expand, none of the players in the pool will have to be replaced, but instead of scrambling for substitutes at the last minute, preparing others will be needed. Thompson/Newsome/Perez are keepers because of their versatility, but they are not natural point guards. What we need are taller point guards (in the future), because unless we have Castro-level talent (at below six feet) or better at the point, we will have mismatches against taller teams. Oftana needs to improve defensively, that's my nitpick with him.
@@willingexile3374 You maybe right bro, but currently in the PBA, one of the few real tall point guard I can think of is that guy from Converge, Stockton, I mean he's like 6' 1 1/2" or 6'2", not sure too if he's eligible to play for Gilas, I've watched him play against SMB, or was it Rain or Shine, (pardon the lapses in my memory) this guy's good. Will Tim Cone like him? Not sure, he's the master, all we can do is speculate.
@@JohnBenedictuyReyes In the pros, any number of players can step in, including Stockton, RJ Abarrientos, etc. among the young players. Even Heading can play, though again he's more of a combo guard. It's just my wish list that we can find a bigger point guard for the future. There is 6'1 Fil-Am who played for the U16/U17 team of the US, JJ Mandaquit, who is now ranked 47th by ESPN in Class 2025. He secured his PH passport before he turned 16. I hope we can recruit him or others like him to the program.
Nakakatuwa na nasa next level na ang pilipinas sa tagal ko ng sumusubaybay sa RP team pa noon na hirap tyo talunin ang mga powerhouse team na mga yan pero ngayun laki na ng pag babago..keep it up
I think Carl Tamayo 3s should be lethal or atleast decent, in his recent KBL games talagang hinahayaan lang sya sa 3 kasi medyo maliit ata yung percentage making it.
I dont know if its the basketball culture pero ang hina talaga natin mag defend sa 3 points. Sa paint kayang kaya kasi malaki na din naman tayo pero yung mga pick and pop and 3 point shots hirap talaga at this point parang sakit na.
Maybe it's me but I can't see RDO in Tamayo. Maybe because RDO is more of a silent operator while Tamayo has more fire in him. I've been following Gilas guys born 2000-2002 since FIBA u16, and back then I commented in one videos that Tamayo can develop into a local Doncic. Some laughed at me. Sure, maybe not his IQ, but I'm referring to his mobility, physicality and attitude towards the game. Now, Carl is being used in KBL as a "semi-guard" at times, and given he's still not yet at his peak, who knows what else he can develop.
Perimeter defense napapabayaan kasi main concern ng gilas ay intrerior defense. Mahirap pag sabayin mag focus sa interior at perometer defense. So technique ng gilas ay make sure interior defense walang makalusot. Kaya nga twin tower kai and junemar advantage. Look at gilas advantage on inside points, rebounds, blocks and assists ng gilas on all 4 games.
What do you guys want to see in the future of Gilas Pilipinas?
Deadshots... Steph Curry-level... pwede na din Caidic-level...

relax lng tayo
lahat yan sila magiimprove
habang tumatagal silang nagkakasama
For me, a bigger pool of up to at least 18 players so in case of injuries, it won't be down to 11 players. Or a decent Team B whose age are 19-25.
Agree na we have a deep talent pool. Coaching and Management will be a big factor para di masayang ang ating current generation. But with Coach Tim at the helm and Boss Al as Manager, we're in good hands.

Wag mo lang ibalik si coach Choropot sa Gilas kc puro dribble and drive and alam noon! IBA talaga ang triangle offense game.
European level eh noh yun talaga kinaibahan ng generation ngayun eh, yung size na wala dati ngayun meron na kaya Golden Generation talaga eh ❤🇵🇭🏀
