Does the water level keep rising and falling with the filling and emptying of the bed? Also is there much evaporation? It's one of the most beautiful systems I have seen well done.

What's your opinion on gravel sizes? I've heard some people say that sand is ideal because it catches more organic material for breakdown inside the grow bed, whereas pea gravel just lets everything slip through and has less surface area for dense bacterial colonies.

Have you thought about the hydroponic clay pebbles?

    • @SilientShadow

@@thomasflores7817 I have, I just hear that they're expensive and they don't last too long.

Also, have you found bell siphon flood/drain systems to be markedly more beneficial than just timed fill and drain? I could never tweak the bell siphon just right and just had a standpipe and a timer.

i know you asked a long time ago, but if you can't get a bell working, look up "U" siphon. They are much easioer.

What if the pond water didnt recycle itself like that and you had to keep adding fresh water to the pond? Would this be possible? Would it harm the fish?

Oops my mistake, I actually meant does the pond level noticeably rise and fall with the filling and emptying of the bed? But I've since done a lot of homework and found a way round it. Thanks anyway.

Hope you respond to my questions. Since the pond was established, did you just add a pump to the existing pond to take it to the grow bed? Do you still use a pond filter with bio filter? And if you started from scratch how would you run the plumbing differently? Thanks

This video, whilst informative, made me feel like I was a baby boomer, watching Burke's Backyard in the 90's. The cringeworthy acting of these two blokes helped me realize why I stopped bothering to watch Aussie TV.
