My latest world is the hardest difficulty and if I would restart I'd always get sticc first so I can mine faster and get enough to make fire so that I don't get a flu and after that I'll dig down(as fast as possible) and get a stone and go back up to get allot of wood until the sunset (and also if your fast enough kill animals for food)
Maybe not the hardest settings because I put the humidity in Max so

Yeah that's not the hardest setting. In the hardest setting it's like the Arctic, and you rarely find trees. ( Hardest settings: Temperature-16, Humidity-16, Sea level+16, biome size 0.25 )

Just put 1 stone to save 2 stones
The axe only needs 1 stone and 2 sticks to make a stone axe
Not with stone chunks. That only works with cobble I think
you only need 1 stone just make a shovel design it turns into axe 😂
Yes with cobble you can, but not with stone chunk, you have to use 3 with stone chunks

How to make the best starter base
It's really just up to you. I made a 7 day cruel mode survival tutorial about 2 years ago. Generally the first day you just dig a hole in the ground and sleep. Then hollow out the inside a bit to make more room. After that start building a small house ( like I did in the tutorial ) and move into that. You just gotta use whatever is available around you. Example: In my 100 days cruel mode, my first base was made out of cactus and dirt. Until I got enough stone and then I could build something with stone.
