After the fight end save the game and use the controller again (since the keyboard controls kinda suck in this game)

I had a similar situation with metal gear solid and my dog as well. My dog ran into my controller cord, knocking over my PS2, the system and my save data was fine, but my metal gear solid 2 subsistence disc. Well, let's say everytime rose tries to talk, her dialog takes a while to load (the disc popped out of my console when it fell, and scratched the disc, thank gosh it was cheap enough to be replaced)
HOLY SHIT! I legit I never knew this, I first played using the PC port and the audio always says to switch to controller port 2 but the text tells you to use the keyboard instead, and on PSP, ooh boy, getting into the emulation settings to change the input to controller 2 so the trick can work all because I never thought there would ever be an alternative for the controller switch trick yet Kojima always thought on EVERYTHING!
Also, someone else figured out that Psycho Mantis only dodges 7 out of 8 attacks, so you can just throw punches at him seven times and shoot him the eighth, though the game sadly doesn't recognize it.
When I was a kid, during my first playthrough of MGS i ALMOST defeated Mantis without any of the "conventional" ways. There is a way to beat him in melee even when he constantly reads your moves. From what I remember, attack in with the full combo (three strikes). The third strike is a kick that Mantis himself SOMETIMES fly straight at it. It takes patience, but it is definitely doable. Only reason I didn't beat him? Power outage on my house when Mantis was three kicks away from being beaten. Didn't feel like doing that whole shit again, so I called an older cousin of mine to ask him how he beat Mantis and he said he'd show me. He came to my house the next day and when he switched the controller ports I was amazed beyond belief. To me, things like that would be the future of gaming. On my second playthrough though, I managed to beat Mantis without changing the controller ports, praying the same thing (power outage) wouldn't happen again, and it thankfully didn't and I beat him. Felt real good. But to this day, I didn't knew you could shoot the statues to break his concentration. MGS truly is one of the GOAT of games.
One funny thing about that, is how in Twin Snakes they forgot to mention the controller port you have to use to null Mantis' mind read is port 4, and Campbell will say the "is there a reason you can't use the contriller port trick" like the original MGS where there's only 2 ports, but in any case you get the alternative strategy flag enabled when that happens... Or you can "whiff" 7 attacks and connect with the 8th over and over until you win... A very slow (but is the 3rd alternative) process... But it works too.
Say what you want about FOXHOUND! They were still very generous to just stop everything to allow snake to take these calls, sometimes being very long calls too
There was also a third way and it involved using both controllers at the same time! You use the second one but leave the first plugged in and he reads the first controllers (non)movements!
If you are on the master collection press L1 and R1 or the equivalent to the platform you are on at the same time and go to controller settings to swap to P2
I had to learn this while playing this on GoG. I also found out you can actually beat mantis without doing that either but to use First Person mode to see where he moves and you can shoot him while camouflaged. If you do this, it will take a long time. But it's possible for the stubborn.
I have known this for a long time but only recently needed to use this method. What I didn't know, is that you need to call and call and call and call and call to get them to tell you this--and you can only do it once Campbell tells you so. You can't just shoot the statues from the jump.

Similarly, in MGS4, there is a contingency if you can't use motion controls where the dolld *only while attacking mantis* doesn't require motion controls!

Did you know on the right side of the mountain next to the security camera their's a hidden hole the snow turned into ice above the hole covering the hole use c4 to blow the hole in the ground opened when reaching the bottom of the hole you find fox hound suit which helps you to access fox hound to be a playable character on metal gear solid
This is useful in the PC port of the game. Also, if you been playing with a gamepad (remember at that time computers only had 1 gamepad port (USB wasn't a thing)) and switched to playing with the keyboard the same effect (as changing the controller port on the PS1) is achieved (and the other way around too (if playing with keyboard and switched to gamepad)).
OH COME ON. GOD DAMNIT I was replaying the PS1 version (I grew up with the PC version) on a raspberry pi and the emulator had issues with port2 so I couldn't continue the game there. I gave up before I saw that codec call.
This really helped after my pins in the second controller port were ripped out by a raging friend

In the PC version, Mantis skips his memory card reading tricks and the boss fight goes straight to this mode; without the need to damage the statues.
If you're using a controller Campbell will tell you to use the keyboard as psycho mantis can read the controller
