  • Modifying a Kyma Sound from the prototype strip to make it our own.
    This episode will feature my friend and fellow Kyma user Simon Hutchinson. Together we will talk through a tutorial on the SumOfSines prototype culminating in a spectral morph.
    This livestream tutorial will use Symbolic Sound Kyma 7 and the KORG nanoKontrol2.

      Thanks for coming! It was a thrilling experience and I love that "warble" TimeIndex code you created. We will have to do this again!

      @@SpectralEvolver Hahahah. I think "warble" is the name I'm going to have to use for it from now on.

    Very exciting to watch! Thank you for all info!
    On the side note, how can autoloop can be stopped so maybe one loop can start then stopped while another with slow ramp is going which again can be stopped? For further clarification, I would like to have more control over loops with enabling and disabling them while having the option of slow ramp and delicate envelope so it does not stop without adsr.

    what confuses me in here is the index cappytalk how does the syntax !index * 2 - 1 = a range of - 1 to 1
    In my mind I’m thinking it like 1 * 2 = 2 then 2 - 1 = 1
    I’m obviously thinking about it wrong how does this equal a -1 to 1 range ?
    I know I can just change the range in vcs but I feel knowing this in cappytalk would be useful
    Love the tutorials ! I want to see more ! I think I’ve watched them all at least 5 times now 😂

    • @SpectralEvolver
      @SpectralEvolver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your thinking is not incorrect, it is incomplete. !Index is a variable, say in the range of [0, 1] inclusive, which means in the expression !Index * 2 - 1 we can have values at a minimum of -1 (when !Index = 0) and values at a maximum of 1 (when !Index = 1). Values between - 1 and 1 will occur when !Index itself is between 0 and 1. Thanks for watching and glad to hear the videos are helpful. Ahhhhhh lightbulb moment ! Thank you I get this now. And I have seen one or two of the tutorials but I somehow missed a few. I watched them all last night and will probably watch them multiple times again great stuff !

    • @buttaz95
      @buttaz95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also thanks I get now that I misunderstood because I was thinking of the expression as a single value as opposed to the range being 0 to 2 then shifting the whole range down 1 👌

    120 ish sines seem a tad limited for the second sound? Feels like a lot of frequencies are cut off at the top - is there a reason for limiting the number to this low? I don’t have Kyma so I don’t know the details, but im familiar with software that uses 1000s of sines to resynthesise sounds.

    Thank you for such a great, fun and informative tutorial! I hope there will be more of these!
    I have one question regarding the usage of Nanokontrol2 - how to connect it with Kyma in a way that it registers the movement of knobs?
    I plugged it into the USB 2 in back of the Pacarana, but unfortunately it still doesn't recognize it.

    • @SpectralEvolver
      @SpectralEvolver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That's one correct way of connecting the Nanokontrol. It should be working. I'm sure we can figure it out. When you look at your MIDI messages window do you see any information?

    • @inneruniverse6781
      @inneruniverse6781 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpectralEvolver Thank you for your answer. I finally found the way to connect it. That's right it was the correct way, but needed to update the firmware and check the DSP status. Now it's working!
      On the second note, I was looking at the various affordable Ipad options. It's unfortunate that it cannot work with android tablets... Anyway, I found the 9th gen Ipad 10.2 inch size. I wanted to ask you, do you think it is suitable for Kyma Pacarana 2020 firmware?
      Thank you in advance!

      @@inneruniverse6781 Good to hear you got the nanoKONTROL working! As for the iPad, I'd just be guessing, so I think that's probably a question for SSC or maybe the q and a. kyma.symbolicsound.com/qa/
      Let me know how it goes.
