Very good analysis, I so agree on Hades lol, I noticed right away how much safer and stronger he feels. You also have a pretty nice voice for YT, so man, keep it up.
I remember watching Magic over the years in casted games and always wishing he had a TH-cam channel, feel honoured watching his tier list, I love the fact your base as an accountant makes you speak in numbers and statistics so this is the best explained tier list I’ve ever watched.
I feel like Hades is just AoMs version of the English. Going bows is so strong and an easy build the hopolites can get two upgrades depending on what gods you pick. The spear bow cyclop manticore combo seems to be awesome. Then end the game with earthquake if they even make it that far
Absolutely spot on with this tier list. Been binging all your videos and they can't come out soon enough. Would love to see you do a campaign walkthrough or more gameplay in general. Excellent work 👏🏼
Well done, I can see the work you put into this. Incredible to see AOM analyzed through excel as adults now... and kind of funny. When I was playing this as a kid all I cared about was how cool my army looked, which usually meant a couple of every "special unit" (myth, siege, elephants) and lots of spearmen and archers/slingers Lol
Wow you busted out the excel sheet, as a person who appreciates that type of clear data, I really enjoyed this video. It really painted the clear comparison between units and gods. I will sub from this video alone, not even watching any of your other videos, yet. I look forward to more of your thoughtful comparisons and tips. Thank you.
Ra I feel has the potential to grow a lot once the game starts to be more "figured out". As you said, aggressive gods come on top for now, but the really fast uptimes with Ra can probably be used for some explosive heroic ages. At my level (not very good) a solid mass of elephant rocks every match unless I get killed in classic age.
I just started to try out Ra and I feel the aoe empower has some huge potential. Sad to hear he is on the lowest tier, but i do feel the main problem with egypt as a whole is how weak the base units are and how late you can start to really train them, at least on my level lol
Really thanks to you for dedicate your time to this game and make all the info so easy to reach. About Fryer I have notice that the research time whit him that is 150% slow, make you gotta take your time and pay attention to make the improvements if you want to get an upper hand in the combat. This could cost you the game if you take a bad fight and slows his mid to late game to warranty a victory over the S tier civs.
I'm completely new to the game, Gaia and Oranos were the first gods that caught my eye. I'm just going to stick with Oranos to learn the game I think. Set definitely is really cool as well.
One thing I do feel is being slept on: Hekate's Mythic Renewal also allows your Titans to regen HP, which I believe is the only way to heal a Titan. Also: Being able to spam Son of Osiris as well as having two pharaohs at all times (since Sons of Osiris don't count as pharaohs, a new pharaoh will spawn after conversion), it's now gonna be possible to empower pretty much your entire base. Pretty insane considering Son of Osiris empowerment is stronger than a pharaoh's.
Hi Magic, thank you for the video and the time you took to made it. It was very intresting to see the units value with your explanation! I'm waiting for the next video now :D
Its worth mentioning these Tier List assumes a decent level of skill, Atlantean civs eco is far easier to manage so I think that puts them up a tier each at entry points.
If this was the case then you’d expect the Atlantean overall win rate to be higher, but all three of them are >50%. I agree that their eco is easier to manage but it’s clearly not compensating for their weaker aspects to a degree you could move them up the list.
I think the biggest point for Egypt not feeling great is on the spreadsheet but wasn't really discussed. The training time of their units is a problem because it means your early aggression is just that much later and with weaker units. So you get a delayed early game, which should be your stronger point, and also makes you need that much more infrastructure which reduces the units you put out. Seems a tad backwards.
Freyr is better than Thor in this meta, IMO. Thor’s vill advantage isn’t as powerful as it might initially seem since you’re splitting resources between training vills, researching armory techs, and training enough military units to survive a raid. You can’t really afford to invest in early economy techs if you’re both playing for vill advantage AND trying to have the military to withstand early aggression. Freyr, on the other hand, doesn’t need to sink several hundred resources into armory upgrades that will only marginally improve his human units and give him a few extra dwarves. He doesn’t need to sink as many resources into training military units for raid protection because his Gullinkambi is a great defensive tool. He might be down a few villagers, but he can afford to take those economic techs quicker and with basically no downside. He has a more flexible and robust opening that’s more capable of responding to early aggression and doesn’t really make his economy that much worse. Basically, Thor‘s upside of having one of the best economic bonuses (in theory) is actually not that great in practice because the very act of taking advantage of his free dwarves is actually super expensive, both literally and in terms of opportunity cost.
the other thing to consider is that some of these gods may not be balanced for 1v1 I'd imagine thor or ra, with an ally to help protect them, would benefit greatly
I think Thor hasnt been figured out yet, i've won a few ranked by turtling with thor, going for a semi fast heroic around the 7-8 minute mark with a HUGE army and more tech, thors late game is also pretty strong with rag utilising the economic advantage. Freyr has the negative of taking such a long time to get to where thor is by 7-8 minutes, and armoury upgrades take forever, seriously you need to build two armours on freyr which seems quite silly, as thats alot of resources i could have for thor. I actually think Freyr has lots of potential but he seems weak as hell in late game compared to loki or thor because freyr simply cant get there in time, enemy units are just way more ahead with better tech, i would rather have the time reduced to 75% and a 25% reduction
I look at it the other way for Thor: i research upgrades I wanted to get anyway, and get a free economy boost as a bonus. Unless I lose some, I can usually go an entire match swimming in gold training only a single dwarf at the start. Also, a funny thing with Thor is that he has access to all armory upgrades at any age. That means he can turn axemen into very competent siegers two ages early with Burning Pitch
Nice analysis! I do agree. My observation is that most of civs got extra units. But Atlantians and Egyptian did not. So I think the developers may add some extra mortal units to them to bust a bit their versatility. 😊
I would have the same tier list, but with loki (and maybe freyir) moved in A tier aswell, which means that more than half the gods would be in this tier or S, which is not that bad balance wise actually. Ra, thor and atlanteans being weaker and all the other one being fairly good. Hades would be my n°1 too. He's strong at everything. Good offense, good defense, good late. Heroes not eating on villager production is what make greek so strong atm I think. It's like 2 full villagers between 3:30 & 4:30 compared to the original game, it's a massive buff for their early game.
Nice, thanks for the tier list and the effort! I think I'd agree with most, not sure if Ra is D tier though. I think in the right hands and with the right strats he can be very strong. Sachmet is a very interesting god regarding upgrades. Catapults in heroic can be a big deal imo. I also think there's a lot of potential with Bastet and the Ra monuments with a Pharaoh on them. 4-5 sphinxes can absolutely cause havoc. This into Sachmet for some nice pressure could be fun. Even if played ordinary, with a few monuments rain can be casted almost continously. With some macro and trading I still see Ra to be very solid, especially since he can go for good barrack units with the upgrades. Edit: Just checked it: With only the classical farm upgrade and rain I got 1.64 food gather rate. On hunt my vills have 0.9. So I think it's still at least a 1.5 multiplier compared with hunt. And it's only 30 favour to recast. And since early farms are usually used with Ptah for Schaduf, you don't really need the favour early on compared to Bastet with some Sphinx raids or such. And the multiplier will only go up on higher ages. All this while the food is "safe* and there's no walking needed compared to switching hunting spots. Yes, we also have to consider the gold cost for the farms, but since we don't really need wood early on we have that additional gold anyways. I mean I could be wrong you're a better player than me, but I still see rain as a very, very good god power.
Poseidon so far has felt very good. Fast 2TC with a centaur to contest the map and you can defend all ins, raid hard with 2 stables, fast tech to heroic, or drag the game out with Hephaestus. Currently it is very hard to punish my 2TC if my build is optimized. It would be interesting to see as the meta develops.
How did these greek unit stats pass all the internal playtests with the pros? I thought they were testing for nearly 6 months with a lot of the best players. Loving the game, but its surprising that some of that got through testing. I know balance takes time, but it would be cool to see a patch before the tournament.
I could start a rant about the greek units... just the fact that the chariot is a heroic unit is more expensive and does not have a multiplier, loses to the toxotes, a classical and cheaper unit...
Fairly accurate list, I would change the order in S tier. I think it is: Odin, Set, Hades Despite the stats website not being entirely reflective of top level play, Odin 56% is absurd. One more thing, you said the Greeks don't have to abuse anything to be solid. However, for Zeus, I think after Minos are rightfully nerfed, he is going to be B tier at best. Zeus has to abuse Minos. His bonuses are kind of shit otherwise. If both your classical myth units become underwhelming, then Zeus loses his identity and his God bonuses. Possy and Hades can deal with raids infinitely better than Zeus. Zeus 2TC play vs aggressive gods is very risky.
How do you feel about all Migdol units being taking extra damage from counter cavalry? To me it feels really bad when you have to wait for heroic, build a production facility for 400 gold and then all your units lose to Prodromos or even Zeus Hoplites. Especially when like you said they have the best support archer, so Spearmen and Axemen don't really work to counter them back either. Maybe that's just my scrub-problem though?
Thanks for the vid! Any chance we get a strategic analysis of minor gods next? and when to chose X over Y? I could go on a rant over how I feel greeks are favored in many aspects, not just units but I will restrain myself. I just want to learn how to beat them with another siv :)
Nice analysis. Any chance of you making a video discussing what upgrades we should priorortise and rush versus ones that shouldn't be taken? I have no idea what is good for their cost!
Totally agree with your list. Overall, I think Egyptians are weaker : more difficult to play (much more multi-tasking imo), very weak infantry, strongly reliant on gold mine (less spots than food/wood), no really good godpowers until age4 (except Seth). Even at a higher level where we can expect a more "snowball" strategy with military upgrades, god powers, army compositions, etc. greeks are better
This tierlist unfortunately confirms a lot of suspicions about Ra I've had since the first gameplay beta dropped - he's a fun god but he doesn't doesn't have enough passive compared to the other Major Gods. He almost feels unfinished in his design. The best I've been able to get from him is his Camelry being quite strong through Sobek and Osiris but even then that's a pretty inflexible endgame to shoot for.
I hope the devs do a proper job with the first balance patch. Hoping mostly they look at the minor god balance as well. Forsetti/Horus/Ares are a few examples of minor gods that come to mind.
Pretty sure Freyr is at least B tier, for sure stronger than THOR The boar makes him unassailable for at least some time , the upgrades allow to turtle against greek aggression without losing out on resources and fortress allows to spam decent and fast wood/gold based unit
Hades is best so far Edit: I commented before watching video. I'm glad Magic agree with me Reasons for Hades having below 50% wr is because all the noobs like myself are playing him 😭😭
That's what I think too, safer than everyone else at first, amazing bonuses, amazing gods and earthquake which deals way too much damage to cities lol.
Let's hope the game stays aggressive. Slowing down the gameplay is the worst thing this game could do. Players from other RTS games don't seem to enjoy slow gameplay. Keep the games fast and short. Hades defenses are strong especially early on. It's boring to deal with. 1 TC gameplay should remain viable.
Yes, but when Greeks have one of the best early game, coupled with an insane mid and late game potential, I feel they need to work on tuning. Defensive gods should be viable too in some ways. Lost so many late game as Freyr against Hades, it's disgusting.
I am just a filthy casual, but I usually prefered the AoX games as they felt at least a little bit slower than SC2. But I would not mind if they take some speed out of the game, because late game should matter.
in my opinion kornos is S tier. I haven't lost a game against any civ except another atlantean. Kronos time power is really good in getting rid of keeps. the atlantean civ itself is strong cause no myth units can affect you. which negates almost all the greek gods. and his double myth age up gives him some really timing attacks.
Ra really needs the farms to be dropped in price so you can open with say like two farms and still age up on time. Maybe if he could recieve the midgold an age early too because his only decent unit is camel riders drop midgold on farms early then go into camel riders an age earlier. Maybe a good change idk
Really interesting stuff on the Toxotes! How do they compare to Gastrophetes? Id love to see a comparison between them. If love to see Peltast in there too
I do not like the new Egyptian designs. As said in the video, they are a combination of extremely overpowered and underpowered elements. Both are unhealthy for the game. I hope the balance team can give more weight to competitive player base when balancing the game. For example, the new roc seems too underpowered at competitive scene, but many people who are not familiar with competitive play love the idea. Imagine in sc2, they change medivac like that.
at the moment it feels that way, he has a really difficult time securing a second gold mine at a very high level since he doesn't have any truly offensive god powers
I am not sure if egyptian units are really that bad. Chariot archers are quick, have long range and can basically kill anything which cannot catch up to them, and camel riders are quite good in fights against cavalry, so could help to deal with things that could reach them
As a longtime AOM fan fan that happened upon your channel, great to see the game getting love again! I was curious, is there a way to access your spreadsheet? Simply because I've been mostly taking my own notes and testing units in different scenarios, the data would save me a lot of extra trouble (that and the wiki is still slowly being updated with the most recent Retold data).
Magic, are the new heka gigantes in a totally broken state? They can 2 shot bronze colussus with ability lol. I think that alone should move kronos and oranos to top tier until patched
@@IamMagicAOM I would love to get my hands on those Excel sheets when you're ready to share haha. I love exploring the mechanics through numbers but I'm bad at Excel :(
@@IamMagicAOM I feel you pain lol I started putting one together when I had some downtime at work to calculate how many vills you need (depending on the civ/unit) on each resource to support concurrent production of any unit depending on how many production buildings you want to have going at once. I'm sure there will be something like that integrated into a website or app with a better GUI at some point, but if if you think it would be of any value to you or someone in the community I can shoot you a copy of the spreadsheet I have created in discord or something.
All the stats in your excel looks very interesting. What do you think about make videos about bests units for every civilisation? I'm sure that most of players someitmes build the wrong units in game and it could be really helpful for everyone!
Isn't there something to be said for Egyptians being able to have more units out than Greek? Even if a Greek unit has better damage/hp per cost, there will be situations in which they are outnumbered by the Egyptian units and thus lose the fight, because Egyptian units are cheaper to make.
In many cases yes, but for a lot of them no - such as the slinger to peltast comparison, the peltast is stronger and cheaper, also the combinations that Greek have are better to deal with low hp eggy units, I’ll do a video about unit counters soon!
They should bring back Gaia's ability to heal constructions '-' her walls were a bit stronger because the regenerated '-' now its gone with only constructions on lush regenerating '-'
LIKE IF YOU WANT MAGIC TO MAKE A COUNTER GUIDE FOR THE TOP 3 GODS HE MENTIONED HERE :) (HADES, ODIN and SET), thanks you guys and MAGIC, very usefull videos.
I'd put Oranos in C or D. He is lacking in unique % bonuses that the other Atlanteans have, and has sky passages instead. I think this is much stronger in team games, but in 1v1 where the map is a lot smaller, it doesn't feel as useful as having a build time buff (Kronos manors) or gather rate buffs (two free hero civilians for Gaia). Shockwave is nice, but when your first use of it is to delay your opponent for 3 seconds, who will 99% of the time have a much larger and stronger classical age army than you, it's really just a temporary solution
Oranos has the best minor god options for atlanteans. Line of sight also translates into above 20% favor from oracles. Sky passages may offer value even against a rush because they only cost 5 favor. Sight and being able to track enemy after damaging makes you a better raider or track enemy raiders in early game. Shockwave can bring strong early game value.
completly agree with you. They butchered oranos so bad but people dont seem to care or agree with that because all they do is rush you with norse in minute 5 anyway so they dont know any better

Thank you for all videos 💛
Data. That's why I love AoE and AoM content ❤❤❤
Oh, my poor beloved Gaia.
I believe there should be new maps, more defensive ones, like black forest in AOE2 for those "defensive" gods to really shine.
Magic will be a major god in the next DLC.
I hope the devs do a proper job with the first balance patch. Hoping mostly they look at the minor god balance as well. Forsetti/Horus/Ares are a few examples of minor gods that come to mind.
Pretty sure Freyr is at least B tier, for sure stronger than THOR
The boar makes him unassailable for at least some time , the upgrades allow to turtle against greek aggression without losing out on resources and fortress allows to spam decent and fast wood/gold based unit
I cant find one if you have one but you should definitely start a discord. Great community and great insight. Keep it up!
Would love a research tier list. I know that would be quite a lot but some of these are difficult to tell how effective they are.
Good video, I'll still keep Gaia as my main anyway, I'm having fun :)
very informative content from a really nice guy ! magic you are the best man !
Awesome tier list. But then one thing I want to say is with Greek their minotaur rush kinda destroys Odin completely.
Hades is bonkers OP, just go for minotaur + archer spam and you win.
Hades is best so far
Edit: I commented before watching video. I'm glad Magic agree with me
Reasons for Hades having below 50% wr is because all the noobs like myself are playing him 😭😭
That's what I think too, safer than everyone else at first, amazing bonuses, amazing gods and earthquake which deals way too much damage to cities lol.
I'm liking Hades too.
Were so back
@@dubot4076back to?
Sky gaia and turmas vs hades had been crazy good. Maybe we'll see it be adapted more but I think gaia is top tier.
man, you are a freaking pro!
well done!
I hope too but i dont think it will last for long like this , hope i will be wrong
Yes, but when Greeks have one of the best early game, coupled with an insane mid and late game potential, I feel they need to work on tuning. Defensive gods should be viable too in some ways. Lost so many late game as Freyr against Hades, it's disgusting.
Tbf hades is just built different when it comes to late games. i think freyr does well vsalmost anything else @@Leotophe
However, lategame with titans is cool
I am just a filthy casual, but I usually prefered the AoX games as they felt at least a little bit slower than SC2. But I would not mind if they take some speed out of the game, because late game should matter.
in my opinion kornos is S tier.
I haven't lost a game against any civ except another atlantean. Kronos time power is really good in getting rid of keeps.
the atlantean civ itself is strong cause no myth units can affect you. which negates almost all the greek gods.
and his double myth age up gives him some really timing attacks.
Ty for the time spent on this video, numbers rocks ! But you must edit more ! :)
If love to see Peltast in there too
Gastra have way more range but way less dps per cost
I do not like the new Egyptian designs. As said in the video, they are a combination of extremely overpowered and underpowered elements. Both are unhealthy for the game. I hope the balance team can give more weight to competitive player base when balancing the game. For example, the new roc seems too underpowered at competitive scene, but many people who are not familiar with competitive play love the idea. Imagine in sc2, they change medivac like that.
@@konekopawa9039 agree on the roc whole heartedly
So, RA having better migdol units doesn't really help much, to make up for egypt having weaker units than greeks, i'll take it?
at the moment it feels that way, he has a really difficult time securing a second gold mine at a very high level since he doesn't have any truly offensive god powers
@@IamMagicAOM So, the end-game is fine, just lacking mid, essentially?
@@et34t34fdf yeah you could say that
I am not sure if egyptian units are really that bad. Chariot archers are quick, have long range and can basically kill anything which cannot catch up to them, and camel riders are quite good in fights against cavalry, so could help to deal with things that could reach them
They’re great for utility but in a straight on engagement they lack the outright dps of other archers and they have no multiplier vs infantry
@@IamMagicAOMI found out that peltasts have same range as chariots. This is painful
Nice content, huge issue surviving njord tree rush, i play poseidon, feel like possys bonus are weak compared to other greek
this is great ! any chance you can share workbook ?
hey let me finish it first, then I will!
@@IamMagicAOM thanks ! ❤️
Hades, Loki, Isis, Gaia. These were my picks wayyy back when, starting the vid now let's see where my homies at
Hades has always been the go-to god for beginners and noobs. Only Zeus has seen more play. I think that really screws his stats on the page.
@@AMDGBananaBen hey I’ll share with all of you guys when it’s complete, I’m still working on it
@@IamMagicAOM Amazing! I look forward to it, wil be greatly appreciated by the community =)
Any plans to add any Gaia build order guide too?😢
just waiting for a patch first, if i make one now it will be useless after the patch if changes happen
@@IamMagicAOMThanks!
does the sky passage work on caravanes ? like, once you have your caravane loaded, sky passage it to the market to get the gold instantaniously ?
haha, I doubt it but that would be cool but also broken!
Magic, are the new heka gigantes in a totally broken state? They can 2 shot bronze colussus with ability lol. I think that alone should move kronos and oranos to top tier until patched
yeah it's bugged haha
Will you share the Excel sheets / Google sheets with the community? Would be great to be able to view it!
hey sure but they're not done yet! I don't want to share something that incomplete :P
@@IamMagicAOM I would love to get my hands on those Excel sheets when you're ready to share haha. I love exploring the mechanics through numbers but I'm bad at Excel :(
Thanks - great explanation!
Did you create this spreadsheet by hand, or is there a way to export the values from the in game compendium?
nope by hand, really time consuming haha
@@IamMagicAOM I feel you pain lol
I started putting one together when I had some downtime at work to calculate how many vills you need (depending on the civ/unit) on each resource to support concurrent production of any unit depending on how many production buildings you want to have going at once. I'm sure there will be something like that integrated into a website or app with a better GUI at some point, but if if you think it would be of any value to you or someone in the community I can shoot you a copy of the spreadsheet I have created in discord or something.
Great tier list. Where can I find the excel spreadsheet?
It’s my personal one it’s still incomplete, I’ll share once it’s done!
Did not expect Odin to be S-Tier
bro brought out a fucking spreadsheet. good stuff!
Would you thing of sharing the spreadsheet with all the units stats? it would be very useful for analysis
Sure let me finish it though, might take a few weeks
Does anyone know why the Greeks lost their unique fortress units? I did really like playing Hades with gastraphets.
They still have them in mythic age
@@IamMagicAOM oh, really? Never seen anyone playing them in Retold so far. Thanks for answering!
All the stats in your excel looks very interesting. What do you think about make videos about bests units for every civilisation? I'm sure that most of players someitmes build the wrong units in game and it could be really helpful for everyone!
I was thinking about that actually!
@@IamMagicAOM 🫶
What's your thoughts on best gods for ultra late game? Because I noticed you can now make an entire army of Sons of Osiris...
I think it may be Isis for exactly the reason you just said!
Zeus can also be really good, with more favor he can spam god powers/myth units
Isn't there something to be said for Egyptians being able to have more units out than Greek? Even if a Greek unit has better damage/hp per cost, there will be situations in which they are outnumbered by the Egyptian units and thus lose the fight, because Egyptian units are cheaper to make.
In many cases yes, but for a lot of them no - such as the slinger to peltast comparison, the peltast is stronger and cheaper, also the combinations that Greek have are better to deal with low hp eggy units, I’ll do a video about unit counters soon!
Nice vid bro! Waiting for some gameplay vids 😁
would be really cool if you would share these spreadsheets eventually on google sheets or something.
for sure, when it's done it will be uploaded for all to use!
Ok but guys check out those financing options on a new Mazda
haha what
@@IamMagicAOMthe ads on the tierlist website 😅
@@espanadorada7962 oh lmao
I like your Videos, keep doing that.
I play for fun and watching this video was fun!
They should bring back Gaia's ability to heal constructions '-' her walls were a bit stronger because the regenerated '-' now its gone with only constructions on lush regenerating '-'
"Ohh shot here we go again": Gaia in the bottom of a tier list.
Ran on the bottom, thats new tho, maybe got to find a way to exploit those wadjets
Is that spreadsheet available anywhere?
Not yet, im still working on it, once it’s done I can share with everyone
Is there going to be balance patches? Sad to see atlanteans rated so low
for sure
Nice vid! For next time, would be nice to zoom in a bit so youre not looking at adds all the time, just lil more pleasant viewing experience
Sure, first time doing this - I’ll work on that, thanks!
LIKE IF YOU WANT MAGIC TO MAKE A COUNTER GUIDE FOR THE TOP 3 GODS HE MENTIONED HERE :)
(HADES, ODIN and SET), thanks you guys and MAGIC, very usefull videos.
@@teo9619 oranos is weak against greek rush. Not norse.
How does the toxotes kill better than the chariot archer? When the chariot has almost twice the raw damage (10 vs 6) and 5 tiles more range?
Attack speed is faster!
Banger
my man
Greeks has always been strong, it's no surprise.
