Now what’s funny about this film is that he considers it to be his worst film that he used to make his kids watch it as punishment whenever they got in trouble.
You need to understand the history of the sources for Conan, Red Sonja and Kull. All of them where novels from R.E. Howard. From a time of pulp stories in 1930s & 40s. A lot of stuff then was written to pay the bills, not to be literature. They were fun, I have been a Conan fan since I was a kid. The movies are not close to the books but have some elements of them.
If I'm not mistaken (50 years since I read the books), Red Sonja was a pirate captain and Conan served as a buccaneer/1st mate...ahem. This was his 2nd love after Valeria. Speaking of Valeria (Sandahl Bergman), I was surprised, you didn't recognize her, as the evil queen with the dark hair. This story also had nothing to do with the original Conan books.
No, you're thinking of Belit. Robert E Howard had one story with Red Sonya of Rogatino. She was a support character in the story Shadow of the Vulture where she is a Polish mercenary fighting the Turks at the 1529 Siege of Vienna. Roy Thomas adapted that story into Conan the Barbarian #23 and turned the Slavic Sonya into Hyrkanian Sonja since they are rough geographic equivalents.
@@MiLikesVids It's been a long time, I'm sure you are right, but I sure enjoyed the Conan stories and books by Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague De Camp and others that had followed Howard's style of Conan adult fantasy. The originals stories weren't comic books made for kids. Lots of sex and violence pulp fiction. Howard was a brilliant writer whose life was cut down too short, by his own hand. I also loved his Solomon Kane stories. The movie was good, too. Kull the Atlantean wasn't bad stories, but I hated the Kevin Sorbo film. LOL

Speaking of barbarian movie theme songs with odd lyrics, you should watch "Yor: Hunter From The Future" starring Reb Brown. There's a hang gliding scene in it that is at once too stupid and too awesome to miss.
Robert Rodriguez tried to remake this film in 2009, starring Rose McGowan. Even though a lot of Robert E Howard's work is public domain, parts of it are contested and the idea fell into legal and production limbo, all we got as a result was a poster that teased it at comicon.
He probably wanted to use her in that kind of role just because she was his wife at the time. But I don't think it would've worked. McGowan is just too short and Red Sonja absolutely needs to be tall and statuesque.

The "inconceivable" actor played Grand Nagus (forgot name) on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Wallace Shawn. He also does the voice of Rex in the Toy Story movies.
Oddly enough Conan, and Red Sonja are supposed to be set in the same universe...so why couldn't Arnold just be Conan? 😆
I think there were possible rights issues and also Arnold may have complained about play Conan again... Arnold didn't like the second movie that much.
Arnold has said he only did the movie as a favor. He's not a fan of it. 😂😂
Whos the moaner!?! You later if you play your cards right! Oh geez!🤣🤣🤨😳👍
spat up my drink on that one lmao
LOL
Dang, Mr. Movies, I want to see you give a movie the full MST3K treatment! Also, Mrs. Movies, Surf Ninjas IS amazing.
The original manuscripts and books of Conan are in the little library in the tiny town of Coleman, TX.
The Sword and the Sorcerer should be next
Towards the end, it reminds me of [ Bonefish Grill ]
Forgot to add the [ " do vs did " ], of course, could ge better dialogue
He's also a very entitled Prince. They don't even EAT their own food. They have servants move their mouths for them. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The wife couldn't figure out the priestesses were thrown down the hole and screaming from their wounds and that the hole was closing? Thumbs down. She ain't too bright.
12:25 In his scathing review of "Red Sonja" on his show "Siskel & Ebert at the Movies," film critic Gene Siskel laughed "There's statue of a Buddha that looks like it's... I can't say it. You'll have to watch the movie. NO!!! Don't watch the movie! It looks like its sitting on a toilet!!" He wasn't wrong.
He couldn’t play Conan because of rights issues, but it was written to be called in. They just couldn’t work it out so they changed the name.. so yes, he’s Conan the barbarian
I LOVE your relationship with your daughters, most reactors are only interrupted by their cats. Red Sonja is a TERRIBLE film but it did pave the way for Xena.
Always cracks me up when we catch Mrs Movies clearly looking at herself in the screen off camera. She makes faces alot more now that she has straight white teeth.
This is a decent movie. Brigette & Arnold work well together. xx
This was fun when I saw it on TV, but, I never had a burning desire to see it again. It wasn't the launch for Brigitte that Conan was for Arnie. She became more famous for marrying Sly.
10:00 I reckon they were being crushed as the top closed, like the walls were coming in, that's what I always thought but could be wrong.
Hurt and in pain from the fall. Then, realizing they're gonna be sealed in the darkness until they suffocate or starve to death.
@@richardrobbins387yeah likely, because they'd probably show at least a bit of of the walls coming in to crush them otherwise. I guess it was just I thought I had when I was 10 and it stuck. Damn I was a sick kid lol.
Are you guys going to watch The Sword and The Scorcer?
I wish they would as it is a LOT better than this flick.
I only ever saw that film once, as a kid. I could remember bits of it but never the title until a few years back, should watch it again really :)
4:33 I know you're just joking around, but I thought Mr. Movies actually sounded pretty good.
That isn't Vizzini from Princess Bride...that's Toht from Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
Weird thing is I remember seeing Temple of Doom and this a year later and I kept thinking Reyes' Prince was capitalizing on TOD's Short Round!
The "Flamin A$$hole" reminded me of the Looney Toons background. 😅
