"Amphora-Full Aroma" and "McBaren-Golden Blend", are the two blends that I can smoke all the time without ever giving me tongue bite, no matter how hard I puff em basically.
Great to spend an evening with you again! As a quite new pipe smoker, I did get a bit of tongue bite at first but now I tend to put the pipe a little further into my mouth, and that has solved the problem for me. Excellent advice and chilled vibes, as always. Thank you.
Nice and educative video. As for me, I rarely have tongue bites but maybe being a former cigarette smoker has toughen my tongue, who knows... One advice I'd give is like you say smoking slow but also taking little sips. Beginners or even experienced smokers tend sometimes to draw too much smoke for the taste but it can cause a tongue bite.
For me, personally, acidic beverages work best for my mouth chemistry while smoking coffee tea lemonade Coca-Cola, not pepsi, also root beer and ginger ale. Especially burly blends, they seem to run more alkaline. I mainly smoke va and vaper but do like a rich burly from time to time.
What a GREAT video! So easy to listen to and such great advice! Even though I'm sure I'm older than you, it's almost like I'm listening to my Dad giving me great advice on the proper techniques of smoking a pipe. I do have one question for you. I have only seen you outside during your videos. What do you do when it's cold? I am only an outside smoker and now that the winter is coming, I feel like I am going to be missing a lot of great opportunities. It's hard to find public places to smoke a pipe indoors. Do you know of a lot of pipe smokers that seem to slow down during the colder months? Thanks for your time, your advice, your expertise, and just your plain willingness to share with us fellow pipe smokers! Peace!
So I do 75% of my smoking outside, 25% inside. If it’s very cold, or raining, or if it’s late and I’m parked comfortably on the couch, I will crack a window nearby and puff away inside! Pipe smoke is not lasting or lingering, & will not stain or cling to surfaces like cigarettes or cigars, so I don’t worry about ruining the inside of my home. Cigar lounges are popular places to smoke indoors, with great fellowship, although the cigar smoke can be heavy in the air at these places. I really appreciate your comment. Your positive feedback and thoughts on my presentation here are encouraging to me. I love the pipe smoking hobby, and am thankful to connect with other pipe smokers like you!
My nemeses are Red Virginias and most Mac Baren blends outside the HH line. I get a chemical burn from them. Another tip for tongue bite…chocolate. There’s something in it that soothes the burn.
I have heard others say too that Mac Baren blends outside the HH line bit them. Interesting. I know Autumn Evening from C&D has red Virginias, and I find it easy going. 🤷🏼♂️ Awesome tip with the chocolate. Some say it’s good for nicotine sickness as well. Thanks for your comment! 👍🏼👍🏼
Outstanding video! I’m so glad you mentioned your issue with Edward G Robinson, because I have the exact same experience-I love the blend but always have to power through some discomfort (for me it fades after the first 10 minutes of the bowl, and feels more like tongue-and-roof-of-mouth bite). I’m trying to understand the cause and whether there’s anything I can do to minimize it. Curious whether you have a similar experience with G.L. Pease’s The Virginia Cream, if you’ve tried it. That one wrecks my mouth so badly that I’ve had to put that blend aside altogether. Again, thanks for a great, reassuring video.
Wow thanks for your kind feedback. With Edward G Robinson I suspect the topping is burning us. I’ve never had the Virginia Cream. I’ve heard it is great, special, and one to try! If I do smoke it, I’ll watch out for any bite. Thanks again for your comment and for watching. 👍🏼👍🏼😁

I like full aroma a lot! It doesn’t bite me either. Thanks for your comment!

Very good suggestion. Taking small sips on your pipe tends to keep everything nice and slow and cool.
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
