Glad to see a video on an MP15 type of engines. I love these types of switchers since the ones on my home railroad (the Long Island Railroad) are used on unscheduled work moves all the times and are quite fun to railfan. I don't have a preference for the order of YN2 on the engine, and one of my earliest O gauge engines was one of these CSX MP15s, so these engines specifically hold a special place in my heart.
My guess is they weren't sure how to apply the livery to a loco with no short hood, so they just panted it in the long hood forward orientation. And if you ask me, it looks better that way, you just have to look at it like the cab is on the back end of the loco. The normal way around the livery just doesn't fit on the loco, not only because there's no short hood, but the proportions are also thrown off by the long hood not being as tall as on a road unit. I think they should have just made the "Reversed" version the end cab switcher variant.
When paint schemes are designed with the directionality of the locomotive as the single defining aspect, things can get weird when the locomotive doesn't fit the plan. CP Rail had a similar problem with the Multimark on their switcher units. Multimark at the rear, unit number on (or near) the cab. But when the cab itself was at the rear... well, it got awkward. From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, CN's current switchers have the scheme reversed - but if the red/orange & stripe was at the true front, then you'd have a black cab. Which would look even more starkly 'off' with the rest of the fleet. I guess a bit 'off' is better than a lot 'off'.
Young one you are! So many better schemes when I was a child. Or have you never heard of the WARBONNET! the SANTA FE would like to have a talk with you!
When I went to LTEX in Lordstown 2ish years ago, they were actively rebuilding and testing some ex-CN/WC SW15s. Who knows, 1171 may hav been one of them
I’m sorry but sometimes railfans put waaaaaay too much thought into things that are really simple. YN2 had the blue rising up on the front of the locomotive with the nose being yellow for visibility. Switchers are set up to run long hood forward. Thus the first two were painted CORRECTLY with the blue and yellow on the FRONT of the locomotive like everything else. But it looks weird so was changed to match the rest of the fleet.
Honestly, I never liked the switcher version of the YN2 scheme. Yeah I get the cab is where the yellow and blue phase up, but that's not the front of the locomotive, period. They had it right the first go around.
Ngl the reverse YN2 paint scheme actually doesn't look that bad tbh. In fact it fits yard switcher locomotives perfectly.
Love the subways of your mind In the background

I saw that WC unit in the early 2000s with a GP30 (715) and will never seen that good of power again
The YN2 is no doubt my favorite CSX paint scheme, I’ve seen some AC44s lead in the YN2 paint
it looks better reversed
No way it only looks good reversed on the switchers
Nice you have the former mms on the video.
Happiness is worth fighting for.
Interesting video about these two railroad oddities.
Great choice of background music by the way (Subways of your mind by FEX)
Love the documentary Halton❤❤❤❤.
0:13 well I know who I’m making a locomotive documentary on now 😊
2:57 Yeah, we don’t forget about these units
hearing subways of your mind at the beginning is crazy. i didnt know CUP was a lostwaver

No way that YN2 can be bad! It’s the best paint scheme ever made for any railroad!

I remember seeing a switcher with that number a few months ago but forgot to take a picture
Great video!

0:55 1902 but in switcher form.
CSXT 1171 still shows in UMLER so it might still be in storage

3:18 I wonder why that photo looks familiar
0:25 YN2-BC2*
I know a lot of people think it looks better that way but to me it’s just cursed
also IZ THAT BFB MUSIC!!!1!!1!!!
I will never understand why CSX got rid of the YN2 scheme. It looks SO much better than the modern "dark future" livery it's not even a competition.
Yn2
The b36-7 you mentioned at the very beginning of the video 5895 is still around all be it in questionable condition
Wisconsin central mentioned
new Lionel 2025 catalog droped you going to react it ?
YN2 is slowly fading away with every new gevo and repaint :(
If its reverse, then.would it be 2ny
It looks pretty good reversed.
grand trunk 🤯
the CSX bright future paint scheme got dropped after the CONRAIL spilt CSX only got 42 percent of CONRAIL CSX crying now 😢

I dont get what people have against YN3
yn2
Thay shouldve kept it reversed. The yellow goes on the FRONT of the locomotive. Thats why its called Yellow Nose 2
2NY!!!!
Sure strange switchers but nothing can beat YN2 over YN3.
10/10
Lionel's new 2025 catalog dropped, and it is terrible for so many reasons😬
Makes more sence reversed cause the blue is towards the fromt
Bros running out of ideas 💀
Not really lol. Still got plenty to cook
