I use little strip of foam from the back an old mouse mat just after the nut or behind the bridge -cost nothing as I made sure to take the mouse mat from work
Works a charm and stops guitar looking like it wants to enter a Tennis competition

On a acoustic guitar if you start wailing away the extra noise can be awful and cloud up the sound. i use two to keep those strings from ringing out. One i kinda push right over the nut and use it to dampen my sound it is a nice effect and i have Gruv Gear in ebony it looks nice against that acoustic guitar headstock.

I use it, pretty much, because I'm lazy, too, and I like the way it looks on my guitar. 🤣

Watch the guy from the Milk Carton Kids. He always uses an old rag. Sorts him out and he's one of the best players I have ever come across. Forget the snake oil $15 inventions. An old rag does the job and looks super cool ! Milk Carton Kids Live !

Do you NEED fret wraps? No.
Are they a useful and affordable tool to have in your arsenal, especially for recording? Yup.
I've got one or two of these, and I use them on occasion when I'm recording certain types of guitar parts to "clean up" the sympathetic ringing. They are fairly useful, and I would say probably work better and look more "professional" than a scarf/ rag/ handkerchief/ scrunchie/ whatever else.

The funniest part about it, is that the EB guitars generally don't need them. Especially the ones with roller string trees. Fret wraps are more often needed on 6 inline tuners. Where the distance from the nut to the tuners can get longer.

For such a silly topic, I found this actually useful! I've never used one, but I think I might on one guitar I have with a Sustainiac pickup. Which ironically, is also cheating? Anyway, that's the only scenario I've encounter excess string noise.

You don´t need a fret wrap and don´t need a fifth string. Yeah, I´m that old and dumb.

They are actually quite a big help to stop a lot of "ringing out" . I found using them behind the nut at band practice helps me get a better sound and less feedback

Save your 30 dollars on a new "Fret-Wrap" and just use an old sock you got laying around. Socks come in pairs - -> 2 for the price of one sock !
Guitar players have for decades (centuries) played guitars without any "fret-wraps".
The sale Gimmicks these days are unbelievable ! .... regular Mineral oil for your rosewood fretboard with added "Lemon scent" so your guitar smells like a lemon...
    .... Vaseline disguised as "Special Nut-sauce" ...

Speak for yourself, buddy. You must have the attention span of a flea (not “the” Flea). Most guitar TH-cam videos are 15-20 mins. This one is 8 and change. Also, nowhere in the title of this video did anyone promise there would be a demo. It made it clear this would have an explanation of its purpose. Also, the guy is poking a bit of fun at this insanely LONG explanation.
Nobody forced you to watch the entire video. If you weren’t digging it, you could have stopped at any point. I had the time and got a laugh because many musicians are often over the top, as are the brands pushing us all kinds of nonsense. Others commenting seemed to enjoy the video. You are free to “complain,” but don’t suck the rest of us into your comment by saying “people” don’t have time. You clearly missed the point in the title, description, and 5 mins into watching. That’s on you, pal.
Have a good time finding the fret wrap vid of your dreams! 🤘🏻🎸😎

That's just plain stupid. Anything touching the strings will have a deadening effect from slight to making for a flat sound. This product is senseless.
