Libiamo Ne' Lieti Calici, Giuseppe Verdi (Lyrics in Italian)

- Here you are other clasical video, this time with the great musical's teacher Giuseppe Verdi. The first performance of the opera, on 6 March 1853 in Venice's La Fenice, was an utter failure. The day after, Verdi wrote to his friend Muzio what has now become perhaps his most famous letter: "La Traviata last night a failure. My fault or the singers'? Time will tell." This letter not only implies what Verdi already knew-that the singers, particularly the obese soprano who could never convincingly play a dying consumptive, had failed to "understand his music."[2]. But more importantly, this letter captures Verdi's faith that the public ultimately knows what is and is not good art and will pronounce its judgment in good time. Thank for watch. Rate if you can o leave your comments. (lyrics in Italian)
Best recording on TH-cam. The tenor is insanely good, not too sharp like most tenors are. Violetta has a beautiful voice, perfect power throughout her range.
The true Violette, Marie Duplessis died in 1847, at age 23 of consumption (tuberculosis). A famous Parisian courtesan, was immortalized by one of her lovers, Alexander Dumas fils, who wrote La Dame aux Camélias, published a year after her death, in which he is portrayed as Alfredo, and she as Marguerite Gautier. The successful novel was picked up by Verdi, and the rest is history.
The only case of (in a way) a movie being better than the book.
@@casperl.3891 ... There are many amazing operas based on novels, not just one
Libiamo, my favorite from Verdi.
This is a wonderful performance by
both the tenor and the soprano along
with the chorus. Love it! Too short, though.
Patrimonio cultural de la humanidad !!!!!
Alfredo
Libiamo, libiamo ne'lieti calici
che la bellezza infiora.
E la fuggevol, fuggevol ora
s'inebrii a voluttà
Libiam ne'dolci fremiti
che suscita l'amore,
poiché quell'occhio al core onnipotente va.
Libiamo, amore, amor fra i calici
più caldi baci avrà
Coro
Ah! Libiam, amor, fra' calici
più caldi baci avrà
Violetta
Tra voi, tra voi saprò dividere
il tempo mio giocondo;
Tutto è follia, follia nel mondo
ciò che non è piacer
Godiam, fugace e rapido
è il gaudio dell'amore,
è un fior che nasce e muore,
ne più si può goder
Godiamo, c'invita, c'invita un fervido
accento lusinghier.
Coro
la notte abbella e il riso;
Violetta
La vita è nel tripudio
Alfredo
Quando non s'ami ancora
Violetta
Nol dite a chi l'ignora,
Alfredo
È il mio destin così...
Tutti
la notte abbella e il riso;
Traviata to mistrzostwo!
want this on my phone alarm for the morning, beautiful.

This violetta is fantastically interesting acting that way!!!
The best version
What a classical refreshing song. Hit a like guys
"My fault or the singers? Time will tell." - Sounds like the audience didn't know how to appreciate what Verdi gave them that night, id est, it was ahead of it's time. Isn't that how it always is with new art forms?
It was not just about the singer I guess. The pubblic at that time was used to see stories set in the very past like Nabucco or Otello with very classic "romantic" female roles. Instead Traviata was an opera set in in their present speaking of an unmarried woman dedicated to the pleasure, way too much for the bigotry of the italian society of that time.
sin duda una obra de arte ♡
What is the company, and who are the singers? I really like them, especially the Alfredo, who's kind of unusual looking and handsome, with a great spirit and energy.
And the violetta is beautiful :)
@@gaiusmarius4112Very Believable !!! Please post the entire performance

I don't know why this reminds me of Looney Tunes.
Il tenore era calante! !!!!
