Just finished rereading the Anne of Green Gables series, and thought you'd appreciate this little gem. "Susan, unbowed by the culinary cares that were heaped upon her, stalked about, showing the ladies to the guest-room, serene in the knowledge that not one of them possessed an apron trimmed with crochet lace five inches deep made from Number One Hundred thread. Susan had captured first prize at the Charlottetown exhibition the week before with that lace." - excerpt from Anne of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables, book 6), chapter 32; Susan is Anne's housekeeper, and the ladies in question are arriving for a quilting bee
Oh my goodness that is absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad you went and reworked this because it's lovely. The idea of an entire outfit to match would be spectacular- I liked the thought of golden yellows and browns- leaning towards autumnal colors. That color forest green is so cozy to me, and I think it fits the "dragon scale" look very well!
I am a railroader that has been doing his best not to have a heat stroke today. I haven't the foggiest how to knit, or anything like that, so can someone please tell me why I am so excited to see this nice lady create things while basking in the AC in a hotel room?
Because she is a pretty lady with lovely voice who makes knitting and crochet sound interesting. I have been following Engineering Knits for 2 years. And this week I bought myself some crochet needles and some yarn.
I don't know if you needed to be redeemed, but it is fair to say you have accomplished that nonetheless. I think it turned out very well, and the green was indeed the right choice.
The texture is quite striking and I like how well it came out. To me it seems pretty. I have been enjoying how you analize and try out things in variations. It seems to be fun to explore the way you do.
Love how it moves! It's almost likes scales/armour - definitely dragon/armadillo vibes. And yes a deep russet or warm burgundy wool with a hint of silk for a sheen would make a fabulous 1870s autumn ensemble.
Redemption, for sure! Brown or burnt orange would compliment it nicely, or a dark gold. Autumn colors for autumn. I love the ruffled scarf or jabot you wore with it. Bravo.
I love that green color! I'm not the biggest earth tone person so I'd pair it with a deep warm purple and cream, although I also like how it looks over your red shirt. I'd love a copy of your revised pattern or the original to play with myself. Congrats on redeeming your mystery pattern!
It is a gorgeous shape and looks like it would be delightfully warm in the winter. The texture looks luxurious and I now want to make something similar to this
You definitely redeemed yourself! Extrapolating to a full outfit, I really like how you can see through the holes at the end, so I'd stick with a light colour on top, maybe a warm yellow or cream. Then a nice rich brown on the bottom! Or a brown-cream-red pattern perhaps?
You definitely redeemed yourself! It looks utterly adorable and it even fits a human! :D But now I am thinking if one could take the overall idea to make a top-down sweater or top out of it for a more modern approach? 🤔
Interesting to see in it's intended size and texture. It still amazes me to understand how manipulating a stitch slightly differently can change how it turns out! This raised pattern makes me think of pangolin scales, although much more rounded. Hope your parents move went well. Nice you could help them.
I just found your channel and I’m in love. I’m a queer knitter and I just wanna say you are absolutely beautiful I love your style and love of historical clothing and fiber craft this is now one of my favorite channels!!
Just remember, most people argue with me that green is not a neutral color, but have you ever seen plants? They always have colored flowers with green you don’t usually see flowers on brown stems or stems blue stems. They’re always green and green. Leaves
I think it looks stunning! What a beautiful piece, and the color of yarn was perfect! I hope you find new, fun patterns to create an outfit for it. I do agree something autumnal would be nice, definitely in the goldenrod kind of color way.
A burnt orange ensemble would give it a great pumpkin vibe! Or if you want a different vibe, something with neutrals like cream, tan, and brown might give it a mushroom and moss vibe. Maybe paired with some sort of crocheted handbag that's red with white spots like an amanita mushroom.
Your crocheting pelerine reminds when I wanted to be able to make the cape (or capelets) saw on movie My Mothers Castle"... Never did find out how or a pattern.
it's gorgeous! and you'll find that it goes with everything because it's just so gosh darned handy. i have what i've been calling a capelet (a pelerine, perhaps?) that a friend gave me--it's made from granny squares (as i've been told) in all sorts of colors and goes over the head rather than ties in front (so, yes, i mess up my hair getting it on and off) but it's the first piece i reach for when i need easily removable warmth that doesn't restrict my movement.
I need this in my life. Now! Immediately. Post haste! {Is there an accessible pattern somewhere? Especially with your notations? Please?} It's winter here in Australia and I'm freezing so bad - yes, i am a total wimp when it comes to cold, but i have major issues regulating my temperature.
So cool! I like olive with floral palettes. Like olive with cream & a little kitten nose pink. I think you could do some small cornflower blue accents with olive if there were other colors present, like cream & pine green.
The capelet looks very cozy and autumnal indeed! I think the green would also go well with a pink and green ensemble or purple perhaps. It could work well as a spring piece as well as fall.
I think burnt orange is what I'd wear that olive colour with, but my colouring works well with either and both of those and I've worn them together before, Or purple, because everything purple is mine, all else can be dyed or painted... But boy, what a difference from the wool of the Andes sample!!
Hi I’ve just found your channel and I think it’s VERY informative and interesting, I would love to make this and get the pattern for it when you’ve got the time, beautiful pattern well explained thank you I think the burnt orange would be wonderful thank you for all the time and effort you’ve put into this project, new subscriber here from Scotland, 😊❤
I love green. I’m always searching out new green yarn. I think I’m going to have to dye a green with sprinkles of yellow, it reminds me of a green they used in Germany for loden
This seems like a nice fall pelerine. I can see it as something one would wear to dinner or a country dance in September or October. I also love the color, but I am often drawn to shades of green.
Are you going to write the pattern up. There's lots of us that would love this. I'm one and my sister and daughter would love this. Please please please
I wonder if it stays warm? The holes look quite large. I made myself a treble crochet scapular length capelet which just caps my shoulders, with centre back granny square diamond and centre front ends which overlap. I find it wonderful to keep my shoulders warm without inhibiting the movement of my arms.
Yes! Great job! What about a green velvet dress to go with your pelerine/cape? I like monochrome outfits. Or as someone else suggested - burnt orange...
Oh! I love this. What a nice Bed Shawl it would be if you have to be in bed to read, etc. Do you sew? I have a christening dress pattern that is over 100 yrs., it’s a mystery, cause it isn’t anything like modern.

A burnt orange/rust gown would be gorgeous with this gorgeous project!
I agee! Very autumnal🍁
Absolutely! Maybe with an earthy brown trim.
Ot would make you inot a beautiful pumpkin and im here for it

@Skibbityboo0580 This comment just made my day 😂
Because she is a pretty lady with lovely voice who makes knitting and crochet sound interesting.

Creating a pretty something from a twist of wool is just a little magical.
Really turned out nicely!
Stunning!! Im so glad you remade this ! :)

Hi peta🌹
How are you doing?
That's a gorgeous project! The tip about the default mode of crochet of that era being in the back loop only was so key.
Hi ilze🌹
How are you doing?

What a fantastic pelerine! I can definitely see you cozying up in it this fall. What a historybounding gem. Glad you decided to give it another try! 😃
Hi string🌹
How are you doing?
I like everything in your wheel house of talent but…. Your pumpkin house coat is THE BOMB!
I love that green color! I'm not the biggest earth tone person so I'd pair it with a deep warm purple and cream, although I also like how it looks over your red shirt. I'd love a copy of your revised pattern or the original to play with myself. Congrats on redeeming your mystery pattern!
Oh I would just love the pattern but don’t see it in her Etsy page. I am praying. ❤
It turned out lovely! Thank you for sharing!❤
Hi Ramona🌹
How are you doing?
It is adorable! I see a beige or ecru agaiinst it with a small bit of very dark matte burgundy.
Hi Susan 🌹
How are you doing?
It is a gorgeous shape and looks like it would be delightfully warm in the winter. The texture looks luxurious and I now want to make something similar to this
This is the best channel I've ever found. ❤
This is beautiful! I really like the green.
Aaahhhh!!! I'm obsessed! Well done!
I think it's beautiful, and I love the color!
I would also love to make one of these-any chance you’d “translate” the pattern into modern terms and offer it for sale?
I’m interested also. I only knit, but I’d learn to crochet for this project. It’s really lovely.
Me too. ❤
It turned out beautifully ❤
Yes, you are well redeemed. It is beautiful.
Hi Elaine🌹
How are you doing?
Please make a short with you and Nutella in your matching capes!
Hi Shana 🌹
How are you doing?
Those rich jewel tones would indeed all, look great together. I keep liking the idea of a rich burnt orange (probably for the autumnal pumpkin vibes).
Gosh it's beautiful, looks very cozy.
Hi Beky🌹

This would look amazing on light pink, or raspberry pink ^^ But also lilac I think!
Definitely with lilac - what a lovely combination for early spring!
Redemption achievement unlocked! I'm thrilled that you redid this pattern to fit you; it's spectacular!
Looking great! Autumn ensemble would be SMASHING!
Hi Mary 🌹
How are you doing?
It's beautiful. I want to make one for myself for winter when I sit at my desk and work. Or for cool summer nights to wear over a dress.
Interesting to see in it's intended size and texture. It still amazes me to understand how manipulating a stitch slightly differently can change how it turns out! This raised pattern makes me think of pangolin scales, although much more rounded.

I'm totally in love! It's gorgeous ❤
I think that green would go great with a loud violet. Did they do plaid in that era? A violet plaid with olive accents would be incredible. 🎉
Hi Lauren 🌹
How are you doing?
Totally agree, that would be amazing. Great idea.
Gorgeous❤ I surely will do the same. Well done!!!!
I admire your skill! Great work!
Beautiful! I'd pair it with brown and gold.
Hi Doris🌹

That’s really beautiful 😻 You definitely redeemed yourself with that one! It would go with so many autumn shades - including dusky heather purple.

Your crocheting pelerine reminds when I wanted to be able to make the cape (or capelets) saw on movie My Mothers Castle"... Never did find out how or a pattern.
Brown might be a little 'frumpy' but orange or rust would be very nice, maybe even a burgundy ... The scallops are lovely
Beautiful it's as if history came alive ❤
Looks gorgeous!!
I love it, I want to make one!!!
So beautiful I'm glad you did it again 😊

Beautiful, I imagine this stich as a skirt (midi length) could look amazing...
That's beautiful. I might try that crochet pattern. I've crocheted a rose color cape
It's beautiful

what gauge wool did you end up using? Is it double knit? triple knit? Does anyone know what the final hook sizes were too?? :) xxx
