  • This Video shows you a first Introduction view of RIDGID's new String Trimmer, the powerful, brushless 18v with a 14'' MAX Cut!! If you used RIDGID's products then this Trimmer will come at no surprise to its build quality.
    About Me:
    Hello, my name is Dan Shannon. I grew up in a small town in New Brunswick, Canada. At a young age, I started working with tools. One of my favourite projects was using a scroll saw to make an old fashioned sleigh ornament in grade 8. As an adult I dove back into my love for woodworking. I’m married with two precious little girls, and I do my own renovations on the house. Also, I like to build my daughters and my wife useful keepsakes out of wood in the shop. I started this TH-cam channel in March of 2023 because I wanted to share the knowledge I had over the years working with tools, as well as sharing the quality of rigid pro grade tools and their service agreement. I’m not a professional by any stretch and I don’t claim to be. I would just like to help those who want to start a shop like I did. I really enjoy helping people especially with shop related topics. so whether you’re a professional or beginner we can all learn from each other out in the shop. Thanks for watching my videos and your support. I greatly appreciate it.

    That's actually to put Ryobi Expand-IT attachments. I have an edger that works fine on the Ridgid power head. Also, the trimmer head is identical to the Ryobi head.

      Fantastic, I bought this to replace the ryobi expand it motor. Good to know the attachments won't go to waste

    I LOVE how thorough you are. And the tip on cutting very tall grass up high and working your way down kept my trimmer head clear and from bogging down.

    IF YOU ARE SHORT, DO NOT BUY THIS TRIMMER!!!! At 5'3", this is a monster to use. My brother at 5'8" has trouble with the length as well. If you're under 6' tall, this trimmer is not ideal unless you really want to work on your arm strength.

      Thanks for your comment. I am 5'9" and have not experience any issues with weight. however, i will say you can add a smaller battery to change the weight or adjust the handle to balance it better. Worst case you can purchase a strap to carry the weight on your body. Here is an example of a strap you can buy: www.amazon.ca/Trimmer-Shoulder-Adjustable-Harness-Durable/dp/B0CPBND2KW/ref=sr_1_9?crid=16PIP9ZCFHFY2&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.155TflVNZF6BQR2TOsmlLWHyQHjHrc7EJnfd_Ue_5-orPn_6RW0-PLNTjbX4i2iGrOM1dQg9nzIJ9xPesxMpDw3RUX4zRbr0NkGoKiub_X1B70kglSpjoTFsztqEdHnGt4ghfzu2wVcxWRpkKOHVtk9AhNkQPa_5luIpYr8KE4eVJr3SLFwhGRaXe9sF9iTNc2GCmG7Ic0Bgv04lg1ZC-XVz8_TbcjCDZlxJz4FTGU8sa9DXU1p6AMa6_xeYhm6CsW7rTkSDoGZXUSrA1eyA_KUJ9FSvhJQPsUqi9beBiA4.hW7B-Ivnyedrov2T4uJTP5FFVTZ4ZbIMuzbe_W6nk7M&dib_tag=se&keywords=string+trimmer+strap&qid=1715702526&sprefix=string+trimmer+handle%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-9

      It looks the same as the DeWalt you can adjust the handle and slide it down a little further and it makes the balance a whole lot easier the DeWalt was very top-heavy after moving the handle on the other side of the joint in the center it was a lot easier to manage and feels a whole lot better

    The ridgid trimmer can use the ryobi expand-it attachments and theybhave a tiller attachment among many others

    Sorry for being 10 months late to comment. Is this branded AEG in Australia and New Zealand? Looks identical.

    • @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan

      A lot of these companies share similarities in build and design. I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple companies use the same molds in factories and add the brand after. They can even change the colour with dye. The main difference would be the warranty they offer through the “label” or “brand”. Thanks 😊 Dan

      Pros and cons to both. I’d say battery is great for small yards and convenience of no gas ⛽️ while gas has more power and long run time for big yards. It’s like most tools, they all serve a purpose depending on your needs. Thanks 😊 Dan

    How do you get the stringer to feed more than 4 inches? The bottom piece of plastic that holds the cutter keeps cutting the line

    • @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan
      @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ricard, if you want long line you can remove the Guard all together and adjust it accordingly. Or remove the cutting blade. Just some suggestions. 😊Dan

    Nice review, thanks for the info. Was wondering if you could give an estimate on how much run time you are getting out of the 6Ah battery?

    • @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan
      @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks!! About 45 minutes of continuous use on setting 1, setting 2 would cut that down by a lot. You could buy the 8Ah to extend your run time. For me I just switch batteries out. Hope that helps. 😊Dan

    A note on how many ah your battery has and about how long does it run on the battery for you. That would be helpful.

    • @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan
      @ShopTalkWithDanTheMan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was a 6ah battery I used and on setting 1, lasting about an hour. It would be less on setting 2. It’s good to note, it’s also based on grass hight and thickness. Higher and thicker grass would draw more power. Age of battery would factor in as well. Hope that helps some. 😊Dan

    I have wire stuck inside the reel. You said push in the button and turn. Mine isn't turning to the unlock position. It's not turning at all. It was just purchased in April and used maybe 10x. Thanks for the video. Any idea why?

      Someone else had the same issue as you, they just twisting back and forth until it freed itself. Over time heat buildup can fuse the plastic together. Maybe try using gloves with grip to get better pressure on the device. Hope that helps. 😊Dan

      Hi Dan...I just wanted to follow up on the jammed head on the trimmer while trying to take it apart. I tried everything. My last resort was to soak the head in hot water. Hard to believe, but it worked. It must have been gummed up.
      Anyway, it's all cleaned up, and new trimmer line installed.
      I think the best thing to do to prevent reoccurrence is to make sure that there is always a goid amount of line spooled out. Thanks again.@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan
