This is the one game where I actually agree about people not leaving him alone. He's letting his fear of losing anyone else cloud his judgment and everyone is right to call him out that his loved ones are better off with him around than not even if it puts them in crosshairs. And I love that about this game's narrative, you don't even have to agree with my take on it *whatsoever* and I would call it super valid if you agree with Kiryu's line of thinking. The man is just so tired of everything.

Like how many times has he witnessed someone die trying to find/connect to a lost loved one or start a family outside of the Yakuza? The orphanage has been used against him and no matter how many times he's tried the Yakuza clans keep dragging him into their problems. He keeps having to be the one to clean up the mess; get his hands dirty for them, bleed for them and sacrifice it all for them. He's burning out, sure everyone can say that his loved ones are better off with him around even if it puts them in the crosshairs, but that's what everyone else wants. Again Kiryu's boundaries are not being respected, again his wishes, and feelings are being tossed aside. It is time for the dragon to go into slumber. (100% agree with you about how there is no write or wrong take really, but I just really wanted to talk about this arc of Kiryu)
The way Kiryu constantly denies is old name feels like a massive build up for Yakuza 8. Can already see it: It's a dramatic moment, and then Kiryu, in is old grey suit, proudly proclaims that he is the dragon of Dojima once more.
It's so fucking funny it's a natural evolution to him shutting down Daigo as Suzuki. Him shutting the door on Tsuruno as soon as things weren't going his way was funny as fuck. It's things like that where Kiryu's attitude can sneak in.
I'm still annoyed at the end of Chapter 2 where they're pushing the blame on Kiryu when it's the Daidoji going "Hey, we have the third most identifiable man in Japan sitting pretty in a fake temple, we should make him do shit for us."

In 3, him being shot led to a power vacuum in Kamurocho leading to Mine and a Terrorist group + CIA getting involved. 6 he was arrested but didn't set up insurances such as Majima to handle the Tojo clan in his stead momentarily like his Mother did in 2 as they wait for him to be released from prison, thus leading to the war with the Mafia that inevitably dragged Kiryu back in. 7 regardless of Arakawa's son inevitable betrayal to gain more power, Daigo's plan to essentially retreat the Tojo and hand over Kamurocho to disband both organizations dragged Kiryu in again as collateral to get it done as seen in Gaiden.

@@techsoly So you're reaching for all of those extra ones, 2 was Jingweon Mafia's fault not Daigo's, 3 was not Daigo's fault at all he was doing the right thing protecting Kiryu's orphanage it was America and specifically the CIA and Andre Richardson who caused 3, 6 is ENTIRELY on the back of Little Baby Iwami, 7 is Masato Arakawa/Ryo Aoki's fault the only reason Arakawa agreed to become the double agent was to stop his son that has NOTHING to do with Daigo
@@TheZangetsu322 Regardless though, He was more or less raised to be a successor of the Tojo clan and ran away from it in 2 until the end where he finally rallied the Tojo clan to fight back against the Omi invasion. In 3, him being shot led to a power vacuum in Kamurocho leading to Mine and a Terrorist group + CIA getting involved. 6 he was arrested but didn't set up insurances such as Majima to handle the Tojo clan in his stead momentarily like his Mother did in 2 as they wait for him to be released from prison, thus leading to the war with the Mafia that inevitably dragged Kiryu back in. 7 regardless of Arakawa's son inevitable betrayal to gain more power, Daigo's plan to essentially retreat the Tojo and hand over Kamurocho to disband both organizations dragged Kiryu in again as collateral to get it done as seen in Gaiden.
