Yes you can. I use 5ml per gal once a week. Ph needs to be over 6.4 for mag. I also use Demeter's at 10ml per gal 2-3 times a week. My pH is always between 6.4-6.7
You can also store it in tap water, never RO though. As long as there is minerals in the solution your storing it in your good to go. Had a blue lab rep come into our store I use to work for many times and have had my second meter for 6 years now and I just keep it in a cup of tap water and change water every couple days.
Tap water leeches the ions from the probe.Okay for few days but not recommended for long life of your pen.i have read if you mix 1g potassium chloride per 100ml ph4 buffer solution you can make your own cheap KCL pH Probe Storage Solution (3 Molar KCL) ? Have also read leaving 3M Kcl out in open is okay for 2-3months but then needs replacing if your storing a ph probe pen in it. I wouldn't store the pen just in the cap but submerger in 3 molar klc storage solution.
I quit growing over 5 years ago and boxed mine up and put it in the loft of my garage in a box. Just got it out today and the bulb is still wet and the probe works fine still. I was shocked but pleasantly surprised.
Something to note, all pH pens have a limited lifespan & wear tear each & every day. Even if you store the pen as recommended the clock is still ticking down. This method helps for keeping the meter accurate, functional etc it does not help to prolong the life of the meter. The moment the meter comes out the factory the clock has started ticking

I have the same problem. The little reservoir in the cap is always gonna be dry after about 2-3 weeks at best.. While I was watching this video, I had the idea to maybe wrap the top of the pen in cling foil, with the cap on and filled with kcl, when you plan to leave it for longer.. Hi i have read if you mix 1g potassium chloride per 100ml ph4 buffer solution (you can also use buffer 7 but 4 is best) you can make your own cheap KCL pH Probe Storage Solution (3 Molar KCL) as your adding and matching the potassium ions inside the probe so there is equilibrium. Have also read leaving 3M KCL (KCL is chemical name for potassium chloride) out in open is okay for 2-3months but then needs replacing if your storing a ph probe pen in it. For long life storing the probe submerged in 3 molar kcl storage solution is best but you can make your own solution as mentioned. Tap water leeches ions from the probe if stored in tap water long term, few days is okay but a month will lesson the life. There is gel on the glass bulb that if left out in open even for 10 minutes you will have to rehydrate it kcl solution for 24 hours but you will probably loose and never regain this lost gel. For max life storing the pen in kcl solution in plastic cap or glass is best to get years of life rather than the pen cap.

Question hi, my wife gave a slight touch with her fingertip on my brand new ph pen out of curiosity. Is it gonna damage my pen and do i have to clean it now before putting it for 24 hrs to the storage solution? Thanks for answering.
Store the pen submerged in kcl solution for years of life. You can make your own kcl by adding 1g potassium chloride to 100ml pf4 buffer. Storing pen submerged is best changing the solution every 2-3 months. There is gel on the outside of the glass bulb that does dry out quickly. KCL is chemical name of potassium chloride. Tap water leeches potassium ions from the pen also but tap water is okay for a few days as an emergency but for best results use kcl.
I put into the cap of my ph pen , the kcl 3m solution. I opened the pen 2 days after and the pen goes crazy with the numbers. Even if i put in different liquid it never goes 0.00 just jumps from one number to another

You should hydrate the pen in 3 molar kcl storage solution forc24 hours on 1st use and there after store the probe submerged in kcl for 2-3 months then swap the open air kcl for new.
The same KCL pH Probe Storage Solution. You just dunk it again 24hrs in it and see if it comes back. You'll need to use a whole mini beaker of it though vs the 3 drops in the cap.
I recommend taking your ph pen with you. Leaving it home alone and possibly have Harry and Marv steal it. Or hoping a house sitter takes care of the ph pen while you are away is too much of a risk. Am I the only one that just sticks with litmus paper? I keep things pretty simple, never more than 6 nectar products going in any mix and have yet to have any issues using only litmus paper.
I use only litmus paper with Nectar for The Gods and never have any issues and I use it for my slurry tests too. As long as you mix the water/soil the soil should change the PH of the water so testing is the same concept. Water comes in contact with strip and strip tells you a color for the potential hydrogen.
