I especially like how the lyrics talk about their frustration, feeling flustered and intimated by the girl, that it makes them angry ,and they don't know why they start fights with them. Im not a guy but looking back at school times and even in movies, it seems like a common theme for guys to bully the girls they like, think its not cool to like a girl and that its weak. I think this song is about this stage and the possible internal battle, when all these emotions and (im assuming) testosterone levels grow. While it's not an excuse to manhandle women (or shake them like they did in the video), this experience is valid and I think guys would go through phases like this whether we like it or not. Im happy and comfortable with this as BTS overall don't promote anything bad, nor do I think the lyrics of this song, as its focus to seems to be about expressing this emotion/phase.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. RM looks good. Love this hairstyle on him. Ty for loving and appreciating all the guys weekly! My intro song was Boy with Luv ft. Halsey. So glad you got to listen to the MV. It's a great song. It was played on the radio a lot, =0p. Love the eyeliner. There were a hip hop group in the early years. Bad boys for sure. =0p The more older songs u check out the more of this style you'll see. To stand out from all the other thousands of bands debuting in 2013 they worked hard on the choreo and their singing/ rapping. They worked harder than other groups and became known for their amazing stage presence and choreo. This song was on their mini EP Skool Love Affair. All of them(EPs and albums) are great. Hope u check them out. If u see kdramas from that year u will see a lot of similar stuff. They did as the director instructed. Boy In Luv was about high school boys chasing a crush on a girl.
Boy With Luv - they realize that the truest love is their relationship with ARMY. (Halsey represents ARMY here. She wasn't expected to dance, but she decided she wanted to try).
Both choreographies end with them doing "I love you" in sign language.
Halsey got a sparkly mic from the guys as a gift because she loved theirs. In return she gave them pink tennis bracelets because they friends for life. She talks to RM all the time by text. They performed together in USA on an award show in May 2019. She is the only artist from the US who asked to learn their choreo. Their choreography is no joke. In the US its easy stuff. About the song it's very close to my heart and this is literally ARMY's happy song. Halsey represents ARMY here in the song. This song is basically a letter to ARMY. As the Korean title of this song suggests, “a poem for small things.” When asked to talk about the song, RM said, “It’s about finding little joy in love, being curious about the little things, the details like what you’re eating, what you’re doing. But, most importantly, Boy With Luv is like a fan letter from BTS to ARMY. That’s the most important thing.”
It is quite interesting to think about the shift from Boy In Luv (2014) to Boy With Luv - from a young, passionate, immature love that is represented with masculine, macho-like lyrics and visuals, to a mature, ‘true’ love that is about every small thing in life and in love that is represented with feminine, reflective lyrics that are more accepting and embracing.

So each album is a progression of songs relevant to the times of that point in growth from boyhood to adulthood. This definitely has the POV of middle school/high school and the chaotic hormones of boys in puberty that blurs lines of aggression and affection. Not excusable, but what is portrayed. Things kind of hit a peak when they released War of Hormone in their next album Dark & Wild. There were a lot of concerned letters and protests from the female fans about objectification and problematic behavior in the music video concepts, which led to Namjoon going to a women's studies professor to have his lyrics reviewed and some self-reflection on whether BTS' lyrics and their impact as artists and idols were harmful towards gender equality etc. (You can see a clip of an interview Namjoon/BTS did in 2021 with ABC news on youtube regarding their positions as special presidential envoys).
You can see the psychology of their lyrics and concept as BTS change from their "The Most Beautiful Moments in Life" album onwards as they tackle the often rough journey of transitioning into adults and becoming grounded in who you are. Namjoon has always been influenced by literary works he admires from Ursula k. Le Guin to Dante Alighieri to Paolo Coelho to Carl Jung.
P.S. When you get to the Dark & Wild album and the song Danger, check out their (Mo-Blue-Mix) featuring THANH. It's often overlooked compared to their other videos.

This was back when they were pushing a certain look and attitude that actually didn't match their personalities in real life. Over the years they matured.
