    I really love the idea of having to create your own tools to be considered a master, might take that into consideration and try to carve some paddles and scrapers

    Really wonderful!I've been a potter for 53 years,and still am seeing magical new things in pottery.And getting great ideas.Thanks for this! More pottery videos,please! (The idea of adding broken bits of porcelain,which isn't affected by the lower temps,is pure genius!)

      You can't. Examine the relations between Mexicans and Americans. Mexicans are Americans. But they typically are not US citizens. But they can be. They are also North Americans. Words and labels are complex. Tibetans are both Chinese and Tibetans.

    What is the mixture for closing pores on clay and detoxing it? Barley powder mixed with yogurt what? Is there a different option to that? How can I find this out

    • @Haiyawithlotus
      @Haiyawithlotus 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lana Ujdenica The mixture is barley powder and yogurt residue-- when making yogurt, there is a clearer liquid that separates from the protein. It's that liquid. I guess diluted yogurt can work as well.

      It's called Whey and you can make your own really easily by making cottage cheese, it's milk heated slowly on stove once heated to warm bath temp add a tsp. lemon juice or vinegar stir one time. turn off heat and let stand till the curd forms cut with knife into checker board pattern let sit a min. Then break to desired size curds pour off whey into glass or clay container. Now you have Whey you can drain the cottage cheese more by hanging in cheese cloth over bowl then you can make cheese. Enjoy it, your "Whey"!

    does this clay fully vitrify in such a process, or would it absorb water? It looks like earthenware/low fire and the target of 800C supports this, but I worry that keeping this kind of traditional firing process could endanger the people who use the wares.

    • @vandyniyomkham5032
      @vandyniyomkham5032 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i somewhat agree, but now a days there are so many other factors that would kill you or propose a health risk. low temp clay is probably should be the least of your worries. In fact these people have probably been using this for centuries with no ill effect.

      No worse than the cigarette the "master" was smoking. His health and anyone's around him is harmed more by the cigs than the pot he makes.

    • @vaba8608
      @vaba8608 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, 800 degrees sounds a bit low for teapots that won't be glazed- I'd be interested in understanding better the barley&yogurt thing.

      For teapots specifically you do not want to have completely closed pores. The pot is cleaned after each use, and dried so mold does not form on leaves left in the pot, but tea saturates the clay. As it dries into the pores of the pot it leaves behind a residue of tanins and natural acids that create a patina that enhances future use. Over time and regular use the tea pot develops it's character, while remaining safe.
