My dad drove one of those while in vietnam, 1966-1968. He swore by it, said it never let him down or left him stranded, unlike the Ford Bronco's some of the men drove. He was there in foriegn service with the State Department. As luck would have it his time was up 3months after the Tet Offensive so he went through all that before leaving. Thankfully he survived and wasn't at Embassy when the VC attacked it
Looking at the underside of this Scout transported me back almost 50 years thinking about all the time I spent under cars. The most productive time spent was when I was catching some "Z's". It seems that a person can relax more under a car when he knows he should be working on it - much the same as closing your eyes after the alarm clock goes off in the morning.
Looks just like my "61 Scout. 152 cu inches of pure power! Had 4:33 gears, if I remember correctly. Top speed was 48, maybe 50 on a downgrade. Floor rusted out, had to raise my feet when the road was wet. At least it had a hand throttle!
EA I’m not sure 🤔💭💭💭 what you had in mind, but go for it! I really thought a lot of the metal would end up on the basketball 🏀 court, 😉😳😬😀 it Didn’t 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏻. Your brides face said a lot. 🤭🤗 ~ Texas
They all look like that. You should see the ones up here in New England. I literally swept up about 5 lb of rust after removing the rear floor. It should have a Dana 44 that's a good rear end
the frame looks solid, with maybe a few areas needing repair, but you really need to pull the cab off, that might mean pulling the engine out, so you can properly inspect the frame.
Dad bought the first scout in Gunnison county , Colo. My brother had one that he should have kept , it had over drive , never saw another one that had it ! :-)
The reason the right front shock is disconnected is so it would turn left better circle track racing🤭. You might consider taking the gas cap off (assuming it has a gas cap) and drive a new truck under it😂
the drop and angle would be to the right I believe and if centrifugal force were real the left shock would save you, or me. I'm assuming your going to race it first when its done
@@ExploringAlabama I'm heading that way now so I can drive it tonight at the local half mile dirt track! Get that baby fired up so we can start kicking butt! The Exploring Alabama race team is not to be messed with😁
YOU CAN SAVE HER!! ....YOU NEED TO STOP THE RUST THOUGH!! ...GET SOME EASTWOOD RUST ENCAPSULATOR!! I'D SANDBLAST THE ENTIRE WAGON AND THEN COAT IT WITH A METAL ETCHING PRIMER!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE VIDS!!
100 pounds of thermite and a good shot from a .223 works wonders at knocking loose all the rusty parts that need replacing. It's cheaper then having it acid dipped. Enjoyed watching. Take care.
It looks the same LOL...ok that was funny 🤣 I fully expected more of it to be gone after the wash...🤔...well..blood, sweat and GEARS..let's git er runnin' 😎
The videos are always awesome, The Scout... not so much. If you decide to fix it I do wish you the best. But with this one it might be best to run like the wind As always. Thank you for the great videos
It's "savable"frame needs attention. but as stated it needs frame off restoration. My Dad and I undertook that process in the suburbs. 2 4x8s under the body preferably long enough to clear the frame. drop the tires on it after the body is off and roll it out on the drum brakes. after its out put the tires back on.
That’s what road salt and time does to a vehicle. Never buy something like this in the Northeast. Try to score one in AZ, or CA. The best part of the video is your wife’s comments at end. Is she always that happy and cheerful? You’re a lucky man and am sure you already know that. As for the Scout, it’s beyond salvageable. I’m rooting for you to get that massive powerhouse idling. That would be a win and then sell it for scrap. God bless.
You're going to need new brake lines and Sheet Metal a lot of parts take the opportunity to learn how to weld not horrible but a lot of work the main thing you look for is that the frame isn't rodded sheet metal can be replaced make sure your drivetrain is good before you do any kind of sheet metal or body work. Nice truck 😉
The Scout is nice. And Watch it on New Yorkers okay buddy.(joking). Yes you are going to have to pull the cab. I would sandblast it all frame can everything. If you do have the bucks to pull the engine use a tree chain block etc. You obviously know what you are doing or your wife would have it let you even buy it lol 😂. Have a good time and even if it never works. take the cab off, add front seats only, stereo system, speakers, chop off the front end down the back of the front seats. take it inside and place it near a wall. paint the wall with some fake large looking," Drive In" movie screens put on a movie get your best gal and get some popcorn and have a date at the Drive In.
i thought it was the same one i almost bought in Ny a few months ago looked just like that but had a v8 it was the same exact condition and color. Actually a little worse. Iv dealt with enough rust for one decade

Sir, you are so fortunate to have found a wife who seems to take joy in your ridiculous undertakings.

Man, you are absolutely hilarious ! I really thought the pressure washer was gonna disintegrate it. Keep these videos coming!
peter smith me too, I just knew the rusty bucket was going to be all over the concrete (basketball court). His humor is awesome. ~ Texas
I have saved two Scouts before and that sir is unsaveable
Awesome, so much flavour. Can't wait to see it running and cruising around the paddock👍

"Lets see how much of this we can get in our eyes before we throw in the towel" LMAO that was funny.
Everything is salvagable. including that scout.

You need to create a brace to hold the body in place, then take the body off and start from square one.

Neat project. How about a clean out/clean up and get it running????
What an amazing truck your lady saying its looking the same 🤣

Neat, if u were 2 fiberglass the body all back together would it b quicker and cheaper?
Damn you picked one of the high priced trucks to fix up and it needs everything. These things rusted in the car lot.

honestly is the best policy
Nice tires.
time to give it an interior clean and start looking for some sheet metal, do you own a spot welder?
The electrical problems alone was enough for me to give up. Good luck!
Like the song :One piece at a time.
You can find parts/use thin sheet metal for the floors.
The videos are always awesome, The Scout... not so much. If you decide to fix it I do wish you the best. But with this one it might be best to run like the wind As always. Thank you for the great videos
My brother had an International Scout and hated it. Had nothing but problems with it. His was in good condition.
they need a ton of patience to own. even more to restore
I think the tires are worth more than the scout....I'll give you $5 bucks for it lol.. good luck!! Happy Valentine's to you and the family...💕💕
Crunchy 😬👍🏼😎
i am sure I just missed it, but what did you do with the Willis?
passed it on to someone else
Rust bucket. Lol. 😆

I was wondering, if you can see through the floor, should you buy this vehicle?

Take the radiator cap off and drive another bronco/International Harvester under it. 😁👍👍👍👍👍 A southern one not a north eastern rot box.😬
there are not any broncos in my videos
Oops International Harvester my bad 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its repairable because there isn't that much to the Scouts to replace. The question is do you have the time?
Bride, It looks the same, hilarious 😂
From what I've seen, if I were you I would save the rims & tires then scrap out the rest. You had a better chance of rehabbing the Wiily's.
Save all parts you can then order fiberglass bed and cab be cheaper in the long run just my thoughts good luck hope you can get it driveable

Did you really buy it to get that sweet ice scrapper??? LOL
oh yeah and what a deal I got
Dude. That thing is crunchy! What I mean by that is it's done! Dont waste your time and $$.
You just need to get a after market body for it.
To quote a Line, from one of the best Submarine Films Ever... "I feel like I need a tetanus shot, from just looking at it" ...Down Periscope!
Just clear-coat it and it's good to go.
Oh that a rub right out

How much you want for it?
Surprised it survived the power washing, its more rust than good metal
An illustration of second law of thermodynamics...
it'll buff out
Needs new floor plans front and rear
That is a real basket case, 50$ in scap metal
Think I had rather want it than have it, lol
i thought it was the same one i almost bought in Ny a few months ago looked just like that but had a v8 it was the same exact condition and color. Actually a little worse. Iv dealt with enough rust for one decade
I hope they or whoever gave you this for free, you know like just to get it off my land kind of thing.
This is just scrap metal you'd had be crazy to try and mend this mess
someone is jealous they don't have one
Fair play old chap I shall take. My had of to you sir if you wish to try and mend this fabulous machine
Double check the frame integrity looks unsafe.
it's in it's prime....
I've seen a lot better ones go to the crusher. Every thing is fixable.
But where does one start and stop?
😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍💖
Do make it run first .
Only 19 more payments left and she's all yours. lol
Yabba Dabba Do.........
Scouts began rusting in the showroom.
No..really.
Salvage the Engine and drivetrain. Then retire that thing to Yard Art. Just saying. ;-)
Needs a framering job on the car
a can of wd40 lol.
Never buy vehicles from new york.....period
That's one of the biggest pieces of CRAP I've ever seen.
you need to go outside more
@@ExploringAlabama I'm from upstate NY. I do know what I'm talk'n about. You need to get savvy.
this was poorly maintained, the only thing worthy is the rims and maybe the drivetrain, the rest? junk
thats a POS Rust bucket.... hope ya Didnt pay more than 10$
It is a Pretty Ol' Sled, thanks
