  • Justice Carstairs, a High Court Judge is completely incompetent and a chronic worrier to boot. He takes the unprecedented step of trying to overrule his own judgement and encounters resistance on all sides. Matters get really complicated when, in trying to prove the man's innocence, he becomes convinced of his guilt

Superb play. Loved it. There are very few dramas nowadays that are even close to these wonderful adaptations. - why?

Because those playwrights have died and the BBC is trying to attract a younger audience as we oldies, who were the original target audience for such radio plays, die off. Few young people listen to the radio these days yet during the war, we utterly relied on it!

Twists and turns right to the end! I wonder if judges and QCs still behave like this?

Yes, what can I say? All ‘slam dunks’ for me tonight. From ‘The Frachise Affair’ to this superb gem. I’ve been spoiled tonight.
By the end of this play you wouldn’t think of him as a judge, by his state of mind. Mrs. Burford was quite the specimen and her character turned into a hoot!
I’m glad I chose to listen! Top Notch! BRAVO!
