Hey thanks for the sub and kind remarks! Feel free to ask any questions you have as I always try to answer right away! And if you are in the Northwest I am always happy to help!
Nice video.. it’s nice when you can get a log to cooperate with you and end up with a nice cant. And then there is that one that’s always says NOT TODAY… lol great job Sir.
LOL oh ya! Those are the 'butt' logs and I don't mean the logs from the bottom of the tree! LOL Thanks! PS. My wife won't run my mill LOL but I see yours does!
Good video. I use a lt40. Just started watching your videos and these are probably the best ones I've seen for explaining the process of cutting lumber yet.
Nicely done. Good explanation of the process and what to look for. I just received my new Woodland Mills Sawmill HM122. (Their entry level mill). My wife and I are building our retirement cabin. A Timber Frame from lumber I milled on a friends Mighty Mite bandsaw mill. I have been hauling the lumber 750 miles to the cabin site in the mountains of Arizona. Now that I have a mill onsite I plan on milling Cants here and then hauling them to finish milling on my mill to whatever size I need. Thanks for your information in this video.
Very cool! Congrats on the mill! That is the very same reason I got into milling! Our cabin is still entertaining me and giving me reasons to mill :) There are some vids here of it as well and more coming. On the mill, check out ForestryForum.com if you haven't already! Tons of info and my journey began there and continues there :) It's like sawmill college :) Cheers! and congrats!

@@TheOldJarhead Haha! Sounds about right. I always say "There is no deadline except dying" It's been a hell of a journey. It gives you the ability to appreciate what's really important in life and to cherish every moment.
Amen! Have you been over to CountryPlans.com? LOL Check out their forum too and you'll find my cabin adventure there as well but the pics are mostly gone (too many years of changing hosts)....still the journey is there and some of it is here as well like this one: th-cam.com/video/Fe2R7YJTsDI/w-d-xo.html where I talk about the adventure (it's part one of a two part video)
Thanks! It's been doing very well lately which is sorta crazy! lol -- as for lube I just use water with a good 'glug (thanks MagicMan) of PineSol (maybe two glugs) and a heavy squirt of Dish Liquid. It works very well unless I'm being stingy ;)
Horizontal stress will make the boards crown and is desired in rafters and joists. Vertical stress will make the boards face bend and is preferred in studs, flooring and paneling etc. By starting with it Horizontal I always know the 3rd face is also Horizontal so can decide if it will be the width or the height of the cant then. Wain is a curved edge on the board, often with bark on it.

Very helpful thx
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
I'd like to see boards made from a large diameter log.
That is what I do most.
I have a video coming out soon of milling 27 inch slabs ;)
Great job!! I'm sure happy your channel is growing !!
What do you use for blade lube ? I just use water with a little dish soap.
Cheers !!

Informative video, Erik. BTW a cant can't Can-Can.
Ha! No it can't! But I suppose you could do a Can-Can on top of the cant! ;) Cheers and thanks!
Do you want your boards to have horizontal stress? What is wain?
