Introducing Roxane Gay, the Gloria Steinem Chair in Media, Culture and Feminist Studies at Rutgers

On September 20, 2022, the university community came together to celebrate the start of Dr. Roxane Gay’s term as the Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University.
Moderated by Jamia Wilson, feminist author and vice president and executive editor of Random House, the conversation featured internationally recognized writer, cultural critic, and educator Roxane Gay and author and activist Gloria Steinem.
Their talk explored the media’s complex role in covering current issues and shaping contemporary culture, modern feminism, and radical change following major U.S. Supreme Court decisions including the recent ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade. Gay and Steinem spoke of the intersections and importance of writing, journalism, and media and their impact on democracy.
