Been running Revolvers for roughly 10 years now. Incredible little torque monsters. John use to put sensor boards in them. You definitely find the weaknesses in the drivetrain. Jump up to 4s.
Just a couple comments. First off, you will want to get into the programmer and match the motor KV to the ESC. This will make it much more efficient and reduce heat in both the motor and the ESC. Other adjustments are personal choices, but that one is important. Also, it seems the shorty kit really just moves the motor rearward in the chassis which moves weight distribution back and hurts performance. I was able to place a 16 tooth pinion on my Carbon, but it required me to place 2 washers under the skid bolt to space it down since the motor moved down a little bit with that pinion. Thank you for the video and have a good one!
Holmes said in one of his videos it isn't necessary to change anything in the programming. I'm running 4 of these systems and haven't touched anything.
Love your videos, very informative! I'm interested in this setup for sure. But I wonder about the durability of the Revolver with trail running in dirt (between rock crawling spots & sessions). Have you run into any issues with yours or have concerns about it?
These outrunner motors are certainly more vulnerable to dirt and other stuff getting in it. This specific setup hasn't had any issues. Honestly - my buddy and I drove through some mud/dirt - deep enough where mud actually got into his outrunner motor. It still worked! But I assume it did shorten the lift somewhat...
I'd like to say it's ridiculous. Out of the box it's great. With some preferential tuning, it's perfect. As slow as you can possibly imagine, yet plenty of punch.
I have that setup with a 1000kv motor and it's really smooth with my noble just hard to wire manage on the comp style build I have not alot of spots for the wire to tuk away from moving parts
@RoadsideRC Yeah, a friend who helped me spec the electronics suggested a 4s for the 1000k Was in a 10 2 comp build I got in trade at one of buddha swop meats
I just picked up a used MST RMX 2.5. All stock parts. Everything looks good and in working condition. I’m having an issue where the front wheels are wobbling when driving strait. I’m not sure what the issue could be. Any suggestions? Starts off good but once I start to pick up speed going in a straight line the wheels start to wobble a ton.
I couldn't get mine to function properly. According to my local shop, you have to use a BEC and program it to work with an average 25Kg servo. I had them do if for me and it over heats now. Havent even taken it out to the rocks yet. Ill stick to the Fusion I took out of it. This one is not worth the headache.
Sounds like you got a dud. I have heard nothing but positive results from others. Your shop also led you wrong about the BEC - unless you got one of the wrong ESCs.
Last night the local shop made things right and it functions very nicely now. Im running their Revolver 1800kv unit. I’m gonna test it out later today on some AZ lava flow. We will see how it does against the Fusions. The wires can be annoying compare to 2 in 1 set ups.
@@RoadsideRC carbon chassis mullet build on 1.9 ruptures. The only added weight was some brass rings up front and some brass knuckles. The interesting part is, it burned up after I carried the rig from one spot to another. I put it back on the ground and it drove maybe 15 ft before it started smoking. Holmes warranty blamed a stuck motor but it was moving as the smoke started so🤷 they were not willing to replace it and offered I think $20 off for me to purchase a new one.
Thank you Troy for addressing the Holmes out runner. Set up
Thanks for the kind comment!
I love my HHCMv3 and Revolver (original) in my TRX4! I came from a Sidewinder 4 that stopped working. I do not miss the whine! :D
100% Do not miss the whine at all!
This setup has performed really well for me, as we would expect!
@@RoadsideRC I had the identical experience, plugged it in and went. No throttle adjust or direction reversing. I loved that.

I had a 4S crawler setup for awhile - didn't like running the big batteries. :)

Yes - I agree, since filming this, I tested the shorty kit and really didn't like it.
I'll get I to the programmer and match KV ASAP!

should be a great addition to the truck,i agree a little more wheel speed
It really does seem to help!! Glad you got the Members-only sneak peak!

@@RoadsideRC Thanks for the reply, that helps! Still not sure which way to go. I may just buy an HH brushed motor and use it with my 1080.

That is gyro wobble.
You need to either (1) reduce the gyro gain, or (2) upgrade the gyro.

Interesting you released the stubby mod video before the outrunner one😅
Yes! Sometimes TH-cam time doesn't match real-world time. :)
@@RoadsideRC still great videos. Wish the stubby kit had worked out better for you.
Haha mine self destructed on 3s. I mean the resistors were falling off the board. I'll keep to stuff with thermal protection.
Interesting! I will make sure to keep an eye on it with long-term use.
What was the setup on the truck it was in? Super heavy with big tires?

Also overdrive was under 5%
Drag brakes sucks on it
I have been happy with mine. Good news - it is adjustable!
Still got the annoying noise goin on.
The mic pics it up more than it is real-world. A LOT less than the outrunner used to be.
