Cory Welles was a great singer. What made this band unique and great was 3 great lead singers sharing duties. Many great songs Joy to the World, Easy to be Hard, Elis Coming Shambala and more. Very successful from late 60s into early 70s Cory did a terrific cover of Otis Reddings Try a little Tenderness, phenomenal!

@@shanenolan8252 Absolutely. Just found their performance of that song on the Letterman show. I REALLY liked the version from the movie, though. I have to watch that movie again every so often. A lot of fun.
@@barryanderson3910 cool Barry, its been awhile since i watched the movie myself. Enjoy your rewatch. Oh yes the movie version hits differently. Its the climax of the story . And there is a build up to that moment.
I enjoy watching Angela's reactions. I may be old, but I do like watching young people's surprise when they realize we had excellent music (in my opinion most better than what is passed off on people nowadays and without any digital enhancement.)
During that period I saw Three Dog Night 3 times. They were the greatest cover band of all time, and every concert was a joy. Try them doing "Eli's Coming", "One", my favorite "Shambala", and "Easy To Be Hard". All covers, all big hits, all great interpretations.
Country music also has a lot of comedy in songs: (1) Johnny Cash "A Boy Named Sue" live from San Quentin, (2) Charlie Daniel's "Uneasy Rider", (3) Hank Williams "My Bucket"s Got a Hole In It", (4) Jim Stafford "Wildwood Weed", (5) Roger Miller "King of the Road", (6) Jimmie Rodgers "In The Jailhouse Now",....
3 Dog night were some white guys with soul..loved thire voices. As far as the keyboard liick, That Fender Rhoades had one of the craziest tones i"ve ever heard on an electric piano. I knew you'd have fun with this song, Angela...check out more from them--all of thier tunes are great music!!
Open up the window sucker let me catch my breath, LMAO, my favorite line! This is a good weird. The song is actually funny as hell, but it's a fun rocking tune!
Three Dog Night is a very deep well of an awful lot of great songs, with a lot of different sounds. Some great suggestions would be: Eli’s Coming, Never Been To Spain, Out In The Country, and Joy To The World; and this is barely scratching the top of that list. I am really enjoying watching you enjoy the music of my teen years, and appreciate you keeping all of this music alive.
Mid April 2023 just watched your reaction one year later. I'm going to backtrack and see if you listen to any more of their music because if you haven't you're really missing out. Those commenters were not exaggerating they were one of the best bands of that era. Still are in my book. Thanks for this
Three Dog Night!!! A deep rabbit hole of hits. I didn't see them in concert until about 1988 when they doing fairs were admission was free once you were on the fair grounds. A friend and I took my 5 year daughter. When they played "Out In the Country" (AKA Before the breathing air is gone and the sun is just a bright spot in the night time.) everybody got their lighters out. Now it is the light from cell phones.
When it was cold outside, people would have a dog sleep at the foot of their bed to keep their feet warm. If it was colder, still, they might have 2 dogs, so a 3 Dog Night is a very, very cold night. That's what the band's name relates to.
With three lead singers Three Dog Night covered songs from a variety of artists and sounded close to many. They covered LEO Sayers, Randy Neumann and others. Eli's Coming is one of my favorites.
One of my GOATS in the 70's growing up with this awesome group and having met them in person they signed my "Captured Live at the Fourm" LP individually on their own pics (see the cover) and I saw them in concert so many times I lost count. Loved them and miss them dearly. Thanks for the awesome memories of the decade of my youth! So many hits their funniest yet probably most honest hit songs was "Joy to the World" which rode the #1 Billboard spot for 6-weeks! Cheers!
So much fun! Angie, are you enjoying our childhood music? So much variety huh? Are you used to seeing men with long hair and the fashion. Best decade ever!
Every night when I go to bed I see my brother's Three Dog Night "Seven Separate Fools" album up on the shelf. I remember it contained giant playing cards along with the record. Very cool!
Biggest band in the world from 68-75! 21 top 40 records multiple number ones and a fantastic sound from a excellent band full of great musicians!!! hall of fame, should have been first ballot.
The poor last note! It never got a chance. Nice Hair! One of the best sheens I've ever seen. How many coconuts had to give their lives to cover all that area?

I was only 6 when this came out, but my oldest sister was 16 and had the 45 record. I feel so lucky she introduced my all the great music at an early age! Great reaction Angela.
This band is awesome! So many incredible songs like Joy to the World, One, Eli's Coming, Try A Little Tenderness, etc.. I think this song makes perfect sense...Lol! And that lyric you were not sure of: "That ain't the way to have fun... son..."
He said, "Mama told me not to come, That ain't the way to have fun, son". In the song, he was saying that he DID go to the party, and was describing things that he saw, and realizing how right his mama was.
"Mama Told Me Not To Come, That Ain't No Way To Have Fun - Son - " .. Written by Randy Newman, Listen to Randy's original version & be amazed at the difference when a Band makes a song their own..
One of the highlights when I was young was opening for 3 Dog Night in 1970. We had won a battle of the bands when I was a sophomore in high school. We had been together for 3 years and had about 10 original songs. We broke up afterwards because three of us had enlisted in the marines, two were killed in action I was wounded twice, another member was killed by a drunk driver 3 months after the concert.
One of the bands from my youth. Tried to get into their concert when they came to NZ back in early 70s. You could do that at Western Springs but you had to be fast and know where to sneak in. Lol.
Gotta do as people have suggested "Black & White" so relevant even today. The many others here suggested are good as well. I think you might also enjoy some Blood, Sweat & Tears.
Good gravy you're a beautiful woman. The last minute of the song where they sort of go off is the best. I could listen to an hour of just that!
