    Just used my Hen Rob yesterday here In the Philippines. I repaired the lower door hinge of the car here ( the hinge broke loose from the door including the nut plate). I only had some motorcycle spokes here for welding rods which are plated spring type carbon steel and too thick. I had great control of heat for welding different thicknesses of sheet metal , including the mounting nuts with over sized welding rods. I was outside with gusty winds but still kept good control and got a good strong finish weld. If I could only buy Borax here for flux. Great welding torch and I highly recommend this welding torch set for beginners because it is so versatile for so many different applications. I don't know why we did not include this welding torch set when I was teaching welding in collage.

    I loved the cut-away of the torch--most helpful!
    Mark said they left out the entire cutting chamber, and I would think the oxygen cutting tubing as well. They soldered in a cutting button (trigger) so there's no open hole, but there's nothing inside the housing right there. So I would imagine that there's a lot less gas tubing inside the torch housing on this left-handed unit they just sent me!
    Nice video Jere, thanks for posting it.

      Hi Tom.
      There is more ways to skin a cat. If I know what I want I can usually find a way to make what I need.
      Thanks. Jere

    Also thanks a lot for the cutaway - - - great way to show how exactly how it works.

      Hi Ray:
      I'm sorry I didn't see your comment until now. The cut away really does make it easier to understand why the torch works so much better than the norm.
      Thanks for watching. Jere

    The Dillon or whichever name is a favorite torch of mine especially coupled with a gas saver I've had one for many years and it has served me well but your video just sewed up a few odd curiosities I had from Australia. Thank you. It It can be challenging marrying USA coded gear to our silly metric system. I went through it so long ago I cant remember the solution but solve it I did. GOOD KIT IS PRICLESS. I think I got the Gassaver from Ron Covell.

      Hi AJ:
      I'm glad I could clear up a few points for you. I am glad that I found out about the Dillon torch long ago. Jere

    Nice video Jere. I have the old Dillon torch I have had for years. The only complaint I have is it isn't made for left handed people and can't be changed. I am left handed and the torch works, but it is just unhandy and awkward adjusting the gas knobs. Thanks, Tom

      Hi Tom.
      I think that the torch is a good tool and is worth the inconvenience. I have had to deal with several of it's differences from the old Victor torch that I used for many years before making the DHC 2000 my go to torch. The savings in gases used is probably worth it.
      Thanks for watching and your input. Jere

      Hello Tom:
      Thanks. It took quite a while to mill and paint the cut away but it was the only way I could show the venturi effect.
      Thanks for watching. Jere

    Great explanation sir. I always wondered what made these work better . I've watched videos of Mr.Heavyshevy use one of these doing everything from rust repair to welding cast iron.
    Thanks again

    What a great tutorial. I bought one of these 30 years ago and used it for a while and there it sat. It is the one special tool that I brought with me to my place in the Philippines with me. I no longer have the wrench that came with the kit so could you tell me the thickness of the tool so I can properly adjust my cutter tip gap between the torch oxygen tip . Thank you.

      Hello Ray:
      The wrench is .155 thick. Jere

      @@jerekirkpatrick2092 Thank you and I am sure that is in inches. I will check mine tomorrow and write that in the case. I have an extra wrench I will grind to that thickness. Oh if you have an extra wrench in the Philippines that is a big deal.

    I have seen the Cobra torches for sale at the swap meet. Very impressive. Do you still use gas welding much with a TIG. I still braze with a torch but otherwise I do everything else using one kind of electric welding or another.
    Thanks for all you do.
    All the best!

      Hello Mike. Yes I use the Hen Rob torch quite a bit. I do quite a bit of silver soldering for Coca Cola because when they ask their other welding shops if they can they don't even know what they are talking about. I use the torch for cutting anything over 3/8" steel. And I weld all my car bodies with the torch be it steel or aluminum. I use it for making nice smooth fillets on dash boards using copper from Romex.
      Don't get me wrong, I use the MIG and TIG when the job requires that process. The job will let you know how to approach it.
      Hope this answers your question.

      great video on the Henrob.....I have inherited one and I am having trouble getting the pressure set. I don't have a good set of low pressure gauge/regulators and I have been following the #2 method of setup without much success. When I get to the step where the Oz regulator is to be set it always just blows out the gas flame.....Any tips about what i might be missing.......

    The Victor torch has a swirled mixing chamber inside.

    • @jerekirkpatrick2092
      @jerekirkpatrick2092  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Slinger:
      Yes. You can see the turbulator in the end of the tip that connects to the torch body. That is an attempt to mix the gases as it flows through the tip.
      Thanks for watching. Jere

    These Australian designed torches aren't available here any more. Over 40 years ago when these torches were a new thing my brother bought one of these and it was quite useful because TIG was not affordable back then.
    I bought one at Oshkosh Airventure while I was there and brought it home. That didn't work out too well as the US copies have 9/16 fittings instead of the original 5/8. I will need to get Chinese parts to make it work.
    All said and done they are very expensive compared with a basic TIG welder.

    • @jerekirkpatrick2092
      @jerekirkpatrick2092  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Mike:
      I believe the fitting on the torch is a "B" fitting. You should be able to take the torch to your local welding supply and get the fittings you need.
      Thanks for watching. Jere

    I typically use Propane instead of Acetylene with my cutting rig.
    Will this work with propane too?
    Thanks

    • @jerekirkpatrick2092
      @jerekirkpatrick2092  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mr Prepper2. Good question. I would rather not give you misinformation than try to feed you a line. I spent a while this morning googling "henrob with propane" and got several results. I also got on the DCH 2000 web site and found nothing. There are more BTU's in propane than acetylene therefore a larger orifice is needed when using propane. I am quite sorry I can't give you the answer that you deserve but I will continue to do some research and get back with you if I find good info for you.

      Their website sells an LP regulator for the torch, so I'm guessing; yes.

    Hi Jere, I'm curious, can you use torch without the aluminum cast cover, bare frame? They are a bit heavy. Or cover the torch frame with tig finger to protect from the heat?

    • @jerekirkpatrick2092
      @jerekirkpatrick2092  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello k Le.
      Yes. The torch will function as well with or without the handles. I think you will find that the weight is not found in the handles but in the large brass piece at the bottom of the handle. That part can not be removed. That is where the oxygen is split off for the trigger and used when cutting .
      I hope this answers your question. Jere
