  • What is Britain’s cheapest family car? Or rather, what’s the cheapest new car that a family can actually get away with as its only car? Well, Auto Trader’s Road Test Editor, Ivan Aistrop, reckons it’s the Dacia Logan MCV, and to test his theory, he and his family of four have spent the last six months in one. And, as they found, there’s much more to like about the car than just the value-for-money it offers…

In modern world where all car manufacturer's want to sell you unnecessary stuff and exponentially increase price each year it is nice to see Dacia that is still loyal to its core idea:
Simplicity makes a car cheaper. (and also less irritating and reliable)

I've owned Jags, Audi's Mercs and a few other quality cars, however, I've had my 2nd hand Logan 1.5 diesel for over 4 years now , pound for pound, inch for inch it's seriously the most practical car I've ever owned, zero tax, super mpg, loads of space and tidy looking, you'll always get car snobs, however, ever since the late 50's cars have been a fashion accessory on wheels, the bottom line is, if you want a better quality car go and pay for it, if you want something for getting from A to B get a Logan.

In my country, my family falls into middle class category. But when we were picking a new car, we wanted something simple and reliable without unnecessary gadgets and electronics. We also don't see car as a status symbol. So when we looked around a market, Dacia Logan MCV was the one and only car that met our demands. We booked a testdrive and bought it right away. We have it for two and a half year and we are extremely happy with it. We also picked LPG version so the price for fuel is extremely low.

I own a Logan estate now. I have to say on my first test drive, I didn't like it. Felt slow and cheap , but I had just come from a nice Volvo V40 with auto box and heated leather seats.
After a day or two of driving it, I found more plus points than negatives.
    Pros.
Cheap to run compared to the volvo. In terms of fuel, insurance and car tax and parts.
Massive door pockets and cup holders. My volvo didn't have cup holders and really narrow door pockets.
Big square boot space. Bigger than my Volvo.
    Surprisingly comfortable
Better stereo. OK my volvo was nearing 20 years old and still had a tape deck/CD player, but for a cheap car, my Dacia has blue tooth, etc.
    Electric front windows
    Cons.
A bit slow. Screams its bollocks off at 75. Not a bad off the mark acceleration though. Managed to wheelspin it.
Interior is dull . Dashboard is ok, but door panels are just one colour and featureless
    No aircon.

Much of the design was done to save money which meant the designers were not able to make it to more expensive cars higher standards... So you pay for what you get, it's not a criticism of the car, it's still a good value motor and you get a lot of metal for your money but... Like all other budget brands, take Skoda as an example, over time will get better and better in all departments especially with safety features...
If it's what you can afford then it's a good buy

This car has more features than our last daily driven car, a 2004 Volvo V50 1,8 (also bought new) and it is half the price than the Volvo 16 years ago !!! OK it has 15 km/h less highspeed and 25 horsepower less, but 3 liters less per 100 km fuelconsumption on gas and it is half the price. With LPG we get over 400km with 15 Euro of cost. Will the Dacia also break the 330.000 km like the Volvo ? Have i told you that the Dacia ist half the price of our last new car in 2004 ? Greets from Swabia in Germany

1.5 dci is about 15 years old now :) dacia deserves more tbh renault just uses it as a strictly economical region strategy, in brazil sanderos have rs versions :/// a hot sandero with little to no comfort and a tuned suspension at a reasonable price would do amazing, as romania still has a lot of basis in dacia, not only in work force but also because of the price range of the car, being quite affordable even for a regular family.

Balázs Kovács I am the kind of person that wants as much power as possible in a car 😂 Of course, an affordable one. I think that Dacia disperately needed 150HP here in România, where nobody likes Dacia because it’s slow, you can’t overtake anybody and they also rust in such a short time.. Now, the power problem is solved, and I have a friend that is ready to buy his first Dacia since the 1310, because it has 150HP, which is just great for a car like the Logan (coming soon) and the Duster! Petrol, eco-friendly, Euro 6 with GPF (as far as I know), LG Multimedia System (sadly without Apple CarPlay...) with Bluetooth, USB, Aux-In and great navigation (at least here in România 😂❤️).
And about what was this guy saying about Diesel... You just say shit. Of course the EV are the future, of course a petrol engine is much more clean than a Diesel engine (even tho an Euro 6 with AdBlue is much, much, much cleaner than most of the Euro 4 petrol cars here in România). And LPG?! That’s for taxi and grandparents, man. It’s shit, NO car guy would EVER, EVER, EVER install an LPG system on his car. Not even the poor ones out there!! Why the hell BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Mazda, Subaru, Lamborghini, Ferrari and basically everyone but Dacia doesn’t sell brand new cars with LPG?! I mean wtf, that’s shit. You must turn off the LPG if you want to drive your car at 7000RPM (something that every car guy wants, something that taxi drivers and old drivers doesn’t really want, so that’s good for them), because otherwise you will burn the hell out it’s valves. And turbo engines should see at least one redline a day, there are plenty of reasons to NOT install an LPG System to an 163HP Mercedes-Benz A200 2019, but I agree that there are plenty of reasons to install an LPG System to an 63HP naturally aspirated Dacia engine, that will be driven by an old man or used for taxi/Uber. But LPG it’s not for a car with more than 110HP 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have an 2016 Mercedes-Benz A Class (A200 - 1.6 turbo petrol - 156HP) Euro 6, with an 7 speed Automatic transmission with paddles and an 2015 Volkswagen Golf 7 1.6 TDI 105HP Euro 6 with an manual transmission. And I will never install LPG on my Mercedes, and I will never choose, as a car guy, an petrol + LPG car to the detriment of my 1.6 TDI Volkswagen Golf 🤷🏻‍♂️ I had it since brand new, and now it has 62.000km, and it’s awesome, it has a great fuel consumption (on my daily commute I always get about 3,6liters/100km, in my city (Brașov, România) I get in the worst case 6liters/100km, and if I drive like 150-180km/h on a family trip with 4 persons and lot of luggage, I get about 5,3liters/100km). And this car never costed me more for maintenance or fuel than my petrol Mercedes-Benz, that I also had since new, so... 🤷🏻‍♂️ Why the heck would I choose an LPG shitty non car-guy car over a Diesel that can be driven very, very fast without switching from LPG to petrol, turning off the AC and so on? I get it, more eco-friendly, but fuck this shit, EVs are comming fast, my next car will be an EV, I hope an 400km Range 2022-ish e-Golf. I am never going to have an LPG car. And the way I think is the way all real car guys think. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️ 7000RPM in an LPG is shit, you are poor and don’t want to admit this, and maybe you want to save the planet, even tho you are surrounded (at least in Europe) by Diesel cars, old petrol cars and the fact that you use LPG doesn’t save the plannet at all... And the fuel consumption.. Not all that great compared to a new Diesel engine.. and the pollution of an AdBlue Euro 6 2019 Diesel engine is not that big... So fuck LPG 🖕🏻 And fuck Euro 3/4 LPG cars, they are shit when we talk about pollution 🖕🏻
